Sesame chicken with pork fried rice - very disappointing, save your money
Nina S.

I purchased the sesame chicken which came with rice and an egg roll. The pork fried rice was very disappointing, as it was dry and lacked flavor. The pork inside the rice was dry and lacked flavor. Some pieces were even chewy. The chicken was okay, but the sauce on it was more sticky than I expected. The sauce didn't even spread onto the rice. The broccoli that garnished the top was undercooked and unseasoned, not even with salt. I enjoyed the egg roll, as it was crunchy and not oily. I had high hopes based on the great reviews, but ended up wasting my money.

Beef with broccoli dinner combination, I missed the lunch specials from 11 to 3

I'm back! I'm all by my lonesome here. It's 2:30 so it's very slow. The restaurant is located on…read more436G Vernon Tpke in Vernon, CT. This is Sichuan cuisine and American Chinese. The music is very Americanized. Ive always loved this place! For my drink, I'm having a Scorpion Bowl. A Scorpion bowl is a communally shared alcoholic tiki drink served in a large ceramic bowl traditionally decorated with wahine or hula-girl island scenes and meant to be drunk through long straws. Bowl shapes and decorations can vary considerably. Starting off as a single-serve drink known as the Scorpioncocktail, its immense popularity as a bowl drink in tiki culture is attributed to Trader Vic. This is good! I love the cute bowl! It's pretty big too for "just one." For my first item, I'm having a cup of hot and sour soup. Hot and sour soup is a variant of hulatang or "pepper hot soup" (Chinese: 胡辣汤) that originated from Henan cuisine. Also popular in Southeast Asia, India, Pakistan, and the United States, it is a flexible soup which allows ingredients to be substituted or added depending on availability. For example, the American-Chinese version can be thicker as it commonly includes corn starch, while in Japan, sake is often added. This is real good! It goes well with pepper. This one is especially thick. It was served in under a minute. The pepper really adds to the flavor! Next up, I'm having the Chili Pepper and Preserved Egg. Century eggs (also called preserved egg or 100-year egg) also known as alkalized or preserved eggs, is a Chinese dish made by preserving duck, chicken, or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, depending on the processing method. Oh my! Nice garnish. These are delicious! It's quite spicy too! Beware. I think the chili peppers are minced into a sauce. For my next item, I'm having the Bean Jelly in a Spicy Vinaigrette. This is really liangfen or "cool rice noodles. It is also spelled liang fen, is a Chinese legume dish consisting of starch jelly that is usually served cold, with a savory sauce, often in the summer. It is most popular in northern China, including Beijing, Gansu, and Shaanxi, but may also be found in Sichuan and Qinghai. In Tibet and Nepal it is called laping and is a common street vendor food. In Kyrgyzstan it is an ingredient in a noodle dish called ashlan fu. Wherever they call it, like it! Jelly made out of beans is very odd. This bowl is huge! Yes, it's spicy! It's nicely garnished too. I love the numbing peppercorns! For my entree, I'm having the Hot Spicy Bowl (with chicken) - very spicy. Dry pot chicken, also referred as hot pot chicken, is a dish served as a dry hot pot, cooked with chili pepper, garlic and chicken, by fast frying the chicken in oil. Dry pot chicken is but one type of hot pot dish. The seasoning, ingredients and cooking methods are similar to the more common "wet" hot pots, but dry hot pots do not have the soup base. I like the soup base (which is why I order this). This is good! It came out quick, is super hot, tasty and very spicy! For my next drink, I'm having Maker's Mark on the rocks. That's it. No sweet vermouth or bitters here. Oh this is strong! I don't often have straight liquor on the rocks! For dessert, I'm having the Sweet Sesame Paste Filling Rice Balls. balls. Sesame sweet rice balls usually refer to either Tang Yuan (boiled glutinous rice balls with a molten black sesame filling) or Jian Dui (crispy deep-fried sesame balls coated in seeds). That serve the former. It is served in hot rise water. I love these things! What a great meal here!

A better than expected all you can eat locale…read more Came here because it was close by and they recently revamped their dine in to include boba tea and an all you can eat sushi and Chinese menu. Decided to give it a try and see how things turned out. Inside is clean and decorated well. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We told them we were doing the all you can eat, and got our ordering menu. Interestingly, they included boba tea as an option on the all you can eat menu. so we got drinks to try. They were a little sweet but tasty. We ordered a smattering of bites, with the idea that the plates would be tiny and we could try a bunch. The portions were smaller, but still very massive. There was many times we would take bites and it would look like nothing was eaten. You need to make sure you order light when picking your choices. The bites were seasoned well, tasty, and plentiful. The highlights being the garlic shrimp and the pepper tuna tataki. The sushi rice is seasoned correctly, and the fish was fresh. The taste of the rolls was a little bland, but soy and the wasabi aoli helped out. They do have the stipulation of food waste costing more, so the mass amounts of food did give us pause. The server assured us that there would not be any charges as they figure out how to portion. But it did limit our ordering. For the price, the quality is actually pretty good. It's pricy for the area, but you're not going to go hungry. If you get a chance to try them, they are a great option for a meal. It's not worthy of a trek, but versus other restaurants of that style you would be hard pressed to find better.

However, just looking around the restaurant, felt a little blah, depressing. Looked like they had a nice takeout business going, so I'd try that in the future.

Well....they haven't updated the inside at all and it looks worn and tired. Gone are the laminated menus and the paper "takeout" menus are on the tables. We came at 4:00 and there was just one other party eating. The service was fast since it was empty. One of our servers spoke no English at all I thought that was funny because we complimented her on their wide crispy noodles (THE best around) abd she thought I was complaining so called someone else over. :) We absolutely love their noodles and dipping them in mustard or duck sauce. We ordered egg drop soup and egg roll. Both good! Next we had a sizzling beef & shrimp dish poured onto the sizzling plate in front of us. Neat. The beef was breaded which surprised us. The dish was good with lots of the brown oyster sauce so good over rice. We ordered house lo mein, but got shrimp lo mein instead. Lots of shrimp and good size but we had shrimp in our other dish so it was repetitive and we were looking forward to house. We told them but got a blank state. All good. We didn't eat much of the Lo Mein. There was a wasp buzzing around our table abd head the entire meal. Made it a tad uncomfortable. Finally it landed on the window next to our table abd I killed it with my linen napkin. Finally we could eat in place but awkward. The food was ok with the soup and noodles my fav. The service was very good but the place is dumpy inside abd that wasp ruined. Still, decent Chinese food so 3 stars it is!
