Like any other pizza joint, Soul Pizza has the plastic benches and stools for seats - nothing too fancy. There's a mural on one wall, but don't be expecting a comfy restaurant, cause it's all about the pizza! The pizzas aren't gourmet pizzas, with fancy ingredients like hand-shaven parmesan, arugula, and the like - but they are humongous and generously filled with toppings. For about $15, you can feed a good four people! The crust isn't thin-crust, but is a good thickness and texture, though a bit difficult to handle with one hand. They offer a variety of choices, including their own creations... I had the Porto Peri (15), which was a bit too spicy for me, and the spiciness covered up the flavour of everything else, which I kind of didn't enjoy. It could have used a bit more of another spice. I also got to try the BBQ Hog Fest (17), which is topped with lots of meat and a BBQ sauce. It's apparently the most popular one! I enjoyed it better than the Porto Peri, as the flavour of the toppings weren't masked by the sauce. Though these weren't the best pizza I've ever had, they seem to be consistent, and are definitely good for the value.

The crust bubbled up in a way that was almost, dare I say, American. In the interest of getting some decent nutrition, I ordered a sauteed beans and greens side, and was fairly pleased to discover that it was heavy on the beans. So, the other week I ordered two pizzas for delivery on my way home from an event. They were at my house in 15 minutes. Boom. Another night we had pizzas and they screwed up. We ordered thin bases, they gave us normal. It was a drama. I called them and explained that we had ordered the thin bases due to someone who was slightly gluten intolerant. They sent us two GF pizzas for free. It was like a huge pizza party and they handled it super well. Every time I've ordered from there (and I'm not divulging that number to you, may I add) every pizza has arrived quickly, hot and presented well. For an easy, comforting, totally bad for you pizza, these guys are nailing it.

Salted caramel martini is tasty. So what sweet but not cloyingly. Pizza came out about 8 minutes later. That should have been my first clue. Top seems cooked but base was spongy. I considered asking them to cook it longer but never saw my server again except when she took and delivered orders to the tables near me. Hardly any toppings and the tender potato slices were raw. Bummer because I was excited and looking forward to the pizza as we have similar one at a pizza place near me but they can't do a gluten free crust. I would have order a second, even a third martini but Katherine never came to check on me. Never asked how my food was or if I wanted another drink. I ate half my pizza and sat for 30 minutes without seeing Katherine again before I flagged another employee down to ask for a takeaway box. To pay, you go up to the bar. Maybe it's a good thing that my server never checked on me because my tab was only $57.50 - $.50 when you use a credit card to pay even though they are cashless. You can avoid the fee if you pay by debt. Had she checked on me I would have ordered another martini. So instead of a bill of $80, she saved me $23. Would I come back again? Not sure. East location to find. The other employees were on top of it. So maybe Katherine was having a bad day or ... but I got shorted on my $$ drink and the gluten free pizza wasn't cooked enough.
