The Dubuque Pancheros has been going downhill fast but my most recent trip takes the cake on disappointment. Placed and online order totaling over $40. The food was ready on time, but when we took a look at the food, the portions were so small, it was laughable--especially the bowls. After we finished our food, we weren't even full. Same concept as Chipotle and Qdoba. However in my opinion the taste is better. Often when I go to the other two places, the chicken is all dried out and chewy, but not here. My husband and I split a burrito, got a side of rice and beans, and chips and queso. Both of us were satisfied after we ate, and our 1.5 year old ate some of the rice and beans as well. The queso actually tasted like queso and not a crappy cheese sauce... We spent about $16-17 for the two of us. Reasonably priced. My favorite part of this restaurant is that they mix your food before wrapping your burrito! So you actually get a bite with all the stuff you put in there instead of a bite of rice there, a bite of sour cream here, type of thing. We are traveling for business and we were so pleased with our meal we went back the next night and ordered the same thing! (But added guacamole the second time! If you're in town and trying to decide between this and chipotle, I recommend here for SURE. read more

First off, Pancheros is a good place but this time when I went I could have swore they had a shortage of everything there because when I ask for extra cheese I want EXTRA cheese. They gave me about 5 shreds of cheese and when I ask for lettuce they gave like 5 shreds and when I ask for extra sour cream I want more then just a sample. So now when I get home I gotta spice it up a lot, I feel like I will be making a burrito. P.s I'll keep ya updated on how it goes next time. The food is fine, however, we waited 35 minutes in line to order. They had 5 employees on the line preparing orders but instead of exclusively waiting on the customers in the store they focus on their internet orders. Clearly, they need a new operating system and better management. read more

Very disappointed with what this place has become. When you walk in you can expect to see an empty front with no employee in sight. While you wait a minute or two a young pubescent child will emerge from the back finally ready to help "serve" you. More often than not they simply stare blankly at you waiting for you to announce your order. They seem to not want to be there. Sure I don't blame you but young people these days are so entitled that they think they are above any kind of paying gig. Why did you apply here in the first place? I rarely ever see a managerial person, as I've come at all different times of day. Now to the actually preparing of the food. I would say 3 out of 4 times I order a burrito they will puncture the side while wrapping it. Any true burrito aficionado knows that it's nearly impossible to hold that burrito intact once there is a hole in it. They don't seem to care. Often they never acknowledge this until you speak up about it. Their "fix" is to add another tortilla shell. Uhh? No thank you, I would prefer my burrito with one shell. They refuse to put all the ingredients in an entirely new tortilla. This is just not acceptable especially at nearly $10 a burrito once you add queso and gauc, both an additional dollar and some change, which is a crime onto itself. With Dubuque offering much higher quality Mexican restaurants such as the delightful Mi Ranchito (authentic Mexican) and ever flavorful Adobos (authentic burritos) at roughly the same price point I won't be coming back to Panchero's. read more

Today, went to pick up online order and let 2 of the employees (one of whom was making the tortillas) know that their masks were not over their noses. They both became incredibly rude and started laughing as if wearing a mask didn't protect their customers form contracting COVID! Should have known when I saw them put brown lettuce on my tacos that the other ingredients would not be good quality. In the time to get from the checkout counter to my car (less than 1 minute), I had cold food, especially the meat...meaning the food was not even hot when it was put on my tacos. Not only was it cold, but the meat was chewy and fatty. I have loved this place in the past but this was my first time returning in over a year. I hadn't been here for a long while and decided to give it a try. In short, I like the food from Chipotle a lot more. I ordered the same thing as I do from Chipotle and, while Pancheros food certainly isn't bad, I can't say that the experience made me want to switch either. I had a chicken and barbacoa bowl and found it to be pretty bland. While the staff wasn't unpleasant, they also didn't seem as happy to see me or friendly either. Worst steak quesadillas I ever had. The beef tasted terrible. The guacamole tasted funny.These small cubes of beef were literally 6 ft apart socially distancing from each other, only found 3to4 little pieces per slices. They get 2 stars because the chips and warm cheese were the best thing about this $12.52 meal. I love quesadillas but this one was disappointing. The staff by the way was very nice. read more

I really do love pancheros food, I have always been a huge fan. The food is fresh and tastes great! However, the last ten or so times I have gone there my burrito has broken every time! To the point where I have to eat it with a fork. It's extremely annoying because no matter who I go with I always end up being the one with a tear in the tortilla. The one time the girl making it caught it and asked if I wanted a new tortilla and I gladly accepted and instead of breaking the burrito and scraping my ingredients into the new tortilla she just wrapped it around my already made burrito, so then I had double the tortilla! If one burrito wasn't enough just throw more dough in it! It's also annoying that they are very well known for their queso yet they charge you a whole dollar for it to be put on your burrito. I think 50 cents is enough because you aren't putting a whole cup of it on my burrito to charge me for it as a side. I think you get enough business where guacamole and queso should be free on the burrito. read more

Based solely on the food I would have given Pancheros in Dubuque 4 stars, but because the people behind the counter are never very nice it deserves 2 stars. Now hear me out, I have given it many chances. I have probably been there 20 times since it opened, but each time the young people (especially the girls - and I am young too so this is not an older person thinking youth is rude these days or anything like that!) are just plain rude. They never smile, they act annoyed, it's as though you're being a huge bother by wanting to eat the food they are serving. One time out of 20 I got a smile from the older woman who I assume is the manager, but it was brief. Also, absolutely everything costs extra. You want rice? "That'll be extra". Beans? "Extra". Queso, guacamole, veggies or a bit more meat? Not without paying for it. And they are even very stingy on cheese, lettuce, salsa, etc. They should take a hint from Chipotle on customer service and their offering of relatively cheap items (rice and beans cost pennies!), not to mention that Chipotle uses local, natural and organic when possible. Too bad there's not one in Dubuque to compete with Pancheros, at least not yet.... read more
