I ordered the Torta el Pastor. Excellent Sabor! Marvelous presentation. Comes with red salsa and green salsa. Usual refried beans and lettuce plus marinated pork on toasted torta bread. Service was great. It's a Mexican Mercado, so lots of great extras like papitas con chile and different flavors of Jarrisco. Outstanding vibes! Highly recommend! read more

Pros: The food is delicious, the best tacos in Dubuque. (I say that without trying all the Taco places but I've tried a lot of them). Closest to authentic I've had so far in Iowa/Wisconsin. If you get hungry while waiting, they have snacks you can buy. For the price, the tacos are LOADED with meat. It's a small business, locally owned so that nice. Cons: I've called several times, on several different occasions and no one ever picks up to place a order to go, but they have that option if you're lucky enough for them to pick up. Children run the front, of course they vary in age... from low teens to maybe 16? Long wait times, but you do get hot food... but I do think they are really long.... so I recommend bringing at least 2 quarters for street parking... Doesn't seem to be the cleanest place... maybe it's just warn down and needed of some renovations. I do recommend that you try this place and see for yourself. this was a very conflicting review, I really do enjoy the food, and eating local is great for the community, but don't go there if you want the best customer service. read more

This little joint has fantastic food. Call ahead or just wait and enjoy a paleta. No seating here. They wrap the tacos in waxed paper before foil, so they stay fresher and don't get too soggy. Al pastor was the best I have ever had. read more

This is a take out burrito, and taco joint. Located in the back of a small Mexican grocery, there are no tables or chairs, so call ahead and place your order. I like the steak burritos. Very authentic, and very tasty. Best burritos in Dubuque at this time and the owners are supper friendly. I've been going here for years. This place is a little bodega hidden in a not so nice area of Dubuque. It's a small convenience type store. They have all sorts of Mexican/Hispanic items for sale. Now on to the best part, their TACOS!! They are amazing! Real Mexican tacos, great seasoning, awesome flavor! I have had the Al Pastor, Chicken, Steak and Carnitas. All of them are delicious but my favorites are the Al Pastor!! Plus they are big tacos for about $2.50 each. I've heard their burritos are great too but haven't tried them. The only reason I'm taking one star away from 5 is because they girls (young kids) who answer the phone are very rude, when the owners answer it's usually very pleasant! read more

This was by far the worst restaurant ever. I went into the store to get a cup of corn. When I receive the corn it was after 25 minutes. This is a usual occurrence, they do have decent food at times however their customer service is terrible. It really does show you how good food can be ruined by terrible customer service. To include the corn that I recurved was half filled, meaning that their service size isn't consistent. read more

Delicious tacos. Reminded me of true authentic Mexican street tacos. I read the reviews that describe this place as shady and sketchy. Luckily to my pleasant surprise, it was worth checking out. When I first pulled up, I was unsure if it was even open. Yes, it is one of those hole in the wall places, that sells random Mexican grocery items, holy candles of saints, and other Mexican candies/pops etc. There was a pleasant older lady ready to take my order, as others were waiting to receive there's. Pretty basic menu. Tortas, burritos, and tacos. The carne asada (steak) taco were AMAZING. I ordered them the traditional way with onions and cilantro. They hit the mark. This is a hidden gem of Dubuque for real authentic street tacos. My personal favorite is the El Pastor tacos. You just can't beat the price for amount of meat stuffed into these tacos. I talked to the owner who told me it took him 20 recipes and 6 months to finalize his Pastor taco mix. Traveling for work I haven't come across a better taco... ordering tip, carryout only and order early. The lunch rush can slow them down with their smaller kitchen & staff. This is by far my favorite food place around! I usually get two very yummy barbacoa tacos, enough to keep me full for hours. One taco is large enough to call lunch- they are HUGE, very authentic, and so affordable. For 2 tacos it's $4.85. Usually a 10-15 minute wait for the food. After reading the reviews we decided to give them a try. We were happy to see that a local restaurant (actually a store that also sells food) is serving tortas . We ordered a steak torta and it was so good. The bread was fresh and the meat was well seasoned. We also tried the taco's and they are AMAZING!!! They remind me of the taco's you can get in Cicero, Illinois. The el pastor and barbacoa are my favorites, however the carna asada tacos were very good also. They serve both red and green sauce, and limes with the tacos. When I first ordered the tacos, I noticed that the price was $2.25 and that was 50 cents higher than Adobo's charges for tacos. However when I got the taco I understood why....they give a load of meat compared to Adobo's. At this point the taco's from El Paisano's are my favorite in the tri-state area. You won't be able to sit in this small Mexican grocery store and eat your food, but it's well worth having to sit in your car, take it back to the office, or take it home to eat. read more

Based out of a slightly shady Mexican grocery these guys make some tasty authentic burrito. The ground beef and the marinated pork are great, pair it with a Mexican sugar filled Coca-Cola for a wonderful meal. You would have to hope a fence to get anything more real. read more

Real Mexican food is the best way to describe it. Once you eat it the other Mexican restaurants in dubuque seem like they don't try at being good at there craft. Atmosphere is scary. Feel like you're in a unsafe part of Mexico but the food is delicious. This is a grocery store that makes food so you will have to take it somewhere to eat it. Prices are super reasonable. At long last! An authentic and delicious dose of Mexican food in Dubuque. I'm from Chicago so I'm used to taqueria's every other block offering up some of the best food ever. This place matches that. I believe (but could be wrong) they only serve burritos, tacos and tortas. Regardless, everything is amazing! I order the chicken torta frequently. It's to die for. The burritos are HUGE and lack nothing whatsoever. The tacos are large for their size also. The prices are so low! This is a take out only place. Food is usually done within 10-15 minutes and hot. I LOVE Mexican food - grew up having authentic Mexican. This is the closest to authentic Dubuque has. I cannot believe I'm just discovering this place now. They also have a small market you can pick up things like Mexican candy, corn husks (yay!) and other max cooking items. So happy to find this gem in Dubuque. read more
