Bad service and overpriced!! It has really changed a lot throughout the years, never again.

It wasn't great .. Being a south gate local and growing up in this area i had never been here up until a month ago .. The place was clean looked ok the servers older ladies was a different experience weren't as friendly or attentive as i like being a server/bartender myself i always expect what i myself deliver i had the machaca plate i asked if i could hv my eggs over ez as i always do at other breakfast places id been too she said no thats not the way they are made i was like really ok still i went ahead and tried it their way i didn't like it was just barely warm no seasoning not much veggie flavor at all she never offered more coffee or watter i had to ask another server witch she wasn't too happy to be helping with a table that wasn't hers i wont be going back to this place 1st impression to me is what keeps me coming back i will not be coming back to this place again.. read more

If there was an option for zero stars I would rate it. Everything was going good until the waitress took our order. We waited 20 mins & I was tired of waiting so I checked up on our food, just to find out that we had to wait another 20 mins for our food because there was only one cook. Idk why we weren't notified in the first place but it was cool we waited. My entree came out with the wrong type of meat & the waitress tried saying it beef when in reality it was chicken. We come to this place very often and we decided to bring our dog since they have an outside patio. So since they were taking forever to take our order we decided to go and tell them we were outside and they said that outside opens at 9am. At this point it was 8:30 am and they had 1 person inside. I have lived in the area for over a decade, so I have driven past this place countless times. To the point where every time I did, I told myself "I have to go try this place out, I do love me my pancakes". I have to say, do not go hear for breakfast, It's a shame a place named Pancake Corner would serve me a plate such as the one that was given to me. First off, I make better pancakes at home, which was the most disappointing factor. Everything ells just added to a breakfast I did not enjoy in the least. Sausages that were singed to a crisp, but as cold as if it was the first thing that was cooked. What seemed like powdered eggs, I say that because I have never had eggs with the consistency of those. Every time I drove by this place I kept saying I have to try it. I don't know why, the place, the location or just the name PANCAKES.... My mom and her friend were visiting from AZ. So I suggested we go to the Pancake Corner, I did mentioned to both that I had not been there but I've been wanting to try it. The timing was perfect, I found parking, the lady at the front door was nice and the place was kinda empty for a Saturday morning. We ordered our food and drinks. It didn't take long before we were digging uor forks into our yummy omelets, pancakes, waffles and sipping our coffee. The waitress never came to check up on us, we had someone else fill our coffee cups. And my kids, never got their orange juice and bacon strips. However this time around, I should've read them more carefully. This was literally the worst service I've ever received in my life. It was the day before Fourth of July, and I knew that it would be crowded everywhere. I decided to check this place out because I'd always driven by it. My boyfriend and I got in there and nobody made eye contact with us for at least 10 minutes. Normally we would've left, but we stuck around because we were starving and the lines were huge everywhere else. We stuck around for a little bit, had two menus shoved at us, and our waitress took her sweet time socializing w the couple next to us. It was so insulting to be ignore that way. I stopped in for Bacon and eggs, but immediately change my mind when I saw the menu had huevos rancheros. Placed my order and did my usual ritual by going to the bathroom to wash my hands. Just got back from a chill breakfast from this place on my day off. I passed the place a while ago on a rainy saturday morning and saw it full of people. The outside looks like an old school coffee shop and its very small and cozy inside. My girl and I were the only customers there since it was a weekday before the lunch hour and just after breakfast. I ordered the banana pancakes with bacon and she the french toast combo with egss, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and hash browns. Every dish comes with your choice of toast or pancakes and the prices were very reasonable! You can get a breakfast combo for as little as $3.99. My pancakes were good and every bite had banana slices, also the oj was fresh. Overall its a very cute spot with good service for breakfast and cheap. While it wasnt the greatest breakfast I ever had it was good and worth coming back for. I loved that the food was not too greasy and Id like to try some of the lunch items. They had some mexican food items, pork chops, and sandwiches. Been living in a South Gate a long time, but for whatever reason, never bothered to check out this spot. Well now I know why, hours of operation are 7am-3pm, Mon thru Sun. Well, this Sunday, I happen to take the parents to go eat in the morning. I had the breaded steak and eggs, which came with a side of tomatoe, and either bread or pancakes, and since I was at the "Pancake Corner", had to do there pancakes. All in all, the food was very good. My pops had the steak and eggs with came with nice size steak, not thick, but thin, with 2 eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. I think that was most expensive thing on the menu, almost gettting to ten bucks. My dad said it was the best breakfast he's had in a while. Steak was really good. My mom just had the breakfast special, which came with eggs, sausage and hashbrowns. Coffee was really good! Service was good as well. Two stars off, cause the restroom was broken, and I guess usually Sunday mornings, there are bikers that converge at this locale, and it feels like the waitresses and owner, tend to them before us regular folk. I really suggest they reconsider changing the name of this place. The Pancake corner is extremely misleading because it seems like its just a front for a typical Mom and Pop's Mexican restaurant. When you get ahold of their menu, it seems like their focus really isn't on breakfast or pancakes... There were three people in my party; we all ordered different style pancakes and we all left completely unsatisfied. I feel like you're better off making the stuff at home because its not worth the drive or the money. I can't believe that I lived in South Gate for a whole month before I decided to try this hidden gem!! This is now up there for favorite breakfast joints for me. Been here a couple times now and each time it just gets better. It's a little old fashioned spot that I would never had given it a second glance had I driven past it. Of course...you know me...the name got me haha. Love pancakes! Have now tried the regular pancakes and the chocolate chip ones. The regular ones were very light and fluffy, buttery and full of flavor. They were even heavenly a couple days after as leftovers ;). I wasn't the biggest fan of the chocolate chip ones...I can imagine only a true sweets person would appreciate them more than I would. Had too much chips for my taste. The french toast was excellent too. They do not waste ingredients here! My friends have tried the steak and eggs and both have raved about them. They say it's a pretty good cut of steak and not bland at all which is great. Wasn't really a fan of their bisquits and gravy on the spot but it actually became flavorfull a few days later as a snack lol. Sometimes you gotta age things to improve the tastes I guess haha. I couldn't look past the food though, it wasn't awful but I've had better breakfast. I ordered a spinach omelette and I practically got a measly piece of egg. My order consisted mainly of hash brown, nothing special either. Then to top it all off, I got charged $12.50 for my plate plus a large orange juice, which wasn't very "large" if I say so myself. I visited this place for the first time when taking my best friend out for breakfast for her birthday. I have to say, there is a different vibe from Denny's or IHOP. This little place feels very family oriented and has a home feeling to it. It is also sticking to this 50s theme, since there are paintings of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. These pancakes were not edible at all! I make pancakes from scratch all the time so i know how to pancakes are made and you can quickly tell that the cook used Yeast alot ,alot of Yeast in order to plump up the pancakes and fill you up the Blue Berries were not even cooked!
