I've been coming here for years but only once every few months when I'm desperate to eat anything because that is the only reason to come here, when you're desperate. I ordered chilli cheese fries and asked for one simple request, put the cheese under the chilli. When I received my order (to go) I got home and to my surprise, they put the cheese UNDER ALL OF THE FRIES. I don't understand how you cannot follow simple instructions. Who would order chilli cheese fries with the fries in between? When I called to ask them why they would do that, their excuse was "that's why we don't do special requests", "we were really busy" when they had TWO customers that were already eating and the rest of the place was empty. For dinner or lunch their grilled chicken with rice and beans is REALLY GOOD & full of flavor. It's one of their better options if you're trying to be conscious of your eating habits. Overall, it's a place that has existed for a while and it's decent for a Sunday morning. Not sure if they recently changed their name, but on my receipt the restaurant name is "Tom's Express". Not a huge difference since it still falls under the Tom's chain. Tom's is a huge mom and pop chain in South East Los Angeles and this place doesn't disappoint. I came here for breakfast before heading out to work. If you are a breakfast burrito aficionado I would highly recommend the Tom's breakfast burrito. It comes with egg, hash brown, cheese and the holy trinity (ham, sausage, bacon). Truly a mans man breakfast that will not let you down. Now I'm thinking I might not eat until dinner time. The girl at the cash register was super nice. Only reason I'm not handing out 5 stars is because this place isn't different from the other Tams or Jims around the neighborhood. This is the absolute WORST "restaurant" I've been to, absolute EMBARRASSMENT. This is the 8th time this happens & I've had enough. Here's my take at this garbage. I can't eat cheese, before ordering, I make it known. I ALWAYS SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR A DOUBLE BURGER COMBO THAT ALREADY COMES WITOUT THE CHEESE. These morons even have the audacity to ask if I want cheese after I said no, I always usually repeat it like 5+ times. Then, you have to wait a whole 15+ minutes for your food, if you're lucky, it'll actually be warm. So this is the 8th time & it's the last. I made a PHONE ORDER & the girl answering recognized my voice as it was very stern because they're deaf & can't hear when I repeat "NO CHEESE" like 5+ times. She even repeated the order twice & said no cheese (I was hopeful). I get there a little wet from the rain & have to wait an additional 10 minutes (15 minutes since I've made the call). I then make my walk home in the pouring rain (another 15 minutes) just to unwrap my burger & have it smothered with cheese all melted in. This was the last time I was gonna deal with it without making it known. I immediately called the "restaurant" & the lady was shocked that there was cheese because she remembered us going back & forth saying no cheese. The burger isn't a double cheeseburger combo, I don't know how they messed that up. She guaranteed a refund because of how frustrating & how many times this has happened. It's the next day & I made another call to the restaurant to get my refund & the dude that answered said they can't refund me for the screw they made for the 8th time. I've had it with this joke of a "restaurant", horrible customer service, the cook should be fired immediately. Another time I ordered chicken & waffles with a friend & the chicken was cold & not even "fried" all the way, almost raw, not joking. You would think that the restaurant I have frequented the most in the last couple of years would be amongst one of my all-time-favorites. Well, it's not. Tom's Burger's #11 just happens to be located a couple of street lights away from me. The food is okay, relatively cheap and the portions are usually enough to fill me up. I like the flavor it imparts and what can I say, I'm a sucker for grill marks. Anyway, I've also had their chili cheese fries but I get tired of them pretty quickly. Additionally, I have also tried a few breakfast items as well as their fried chicken dinner that comes with bread, re-fried beans, onion rings and a cheap-ass side salad of lettuce and tomatoes. Again, the portions are big enough for a hungry guy to be satiated. Most females, on the other hand, will probably get full and still have plenty for leftovers. This is a no frills restaurant and that's okay with me. I much prefer to support this kind of establishment rather than major fast food chains. Aside from my yearly McDonald's Fries fix, this is the sort of fast food that I prefer to eat when I get hungry and have little or no time to prepare a meal or think about which restaurant to go to. I ordered a cheeseburger combo and when I got home it was a child's cheeseburger combo. I returned and wasted my time and gas only to come home with the same kids burger. I think the owner just put tomatoe and lettuce and just gave it back or the quality went way way down. It's not the Tom's burger I know! Tasteless dried up burger. In fact, if they are going to serve a burger like this they shouldn't be called it Tom's. On top of that I was charged the difference. Again I wasted my time and gas. Bad customer service. Relatively close to this burger joint. The burgers were really good as always. The only downside was that it was really hot and they had no air conditioner or fans.
