Actually pretty good food but omg the sloooooowest service imaginable. Our group of 6 waited 1.5 hrs for our sandwiches, donuts, and coffee. There were maybe 10 people ahead of us in line, and they all waited forever as well. When we got our food, 2 people in our group were missing eggs on their sandwiches, though unsure how much of it was a language misunderstanding. I personally enjoyed the freshness of the pernil sandwich and the surprisingly strong mini 6 oz latte. However, kudos for them for being the only café/panaderia open on Sundays! Just maybe consider bringing a beach chair and a book or something lol. read more

Searching for pan dulce, I saw this bakery with a line out front. Five stars for humankind because I forgot a mask and another waiting customer actually walked back to his car to retrieve an extra mask for this stranger who just wanted a donut! When I reached the front I witnessed a woman purchase two long loaves of deliciously scented fresh bread. She informed me she was making lobster rolls. I asked for her address. Then I ordered the same, two hot coffees with steamed milk, and several donuts. The coffee was yum and the donuts were fresh and delicious. The bread was amazing. It made several meals of sandwiches for the beach, appetizers before dinner, and French toast. The service was also very good. Que rico! read more

My partner and I have been coming here whenever we visit Vieques, and started visiting in the early 80's. Little has changed about this bakery and sandwich shop, which is, to us, part of its attractiveness and appeal. To those patrons who are tourists from wherever, who complain that they are treated like second class patrons, and feel the service is slow and the locals are taken care of first, get a grip. I read all the reviews and I'd say you have an attitude and should not be visiting laid back Vieques at all. Stay home. Help the world avoid another attitudinal whiner. I have never felt I was ignored, I know little Spanish, but I do know how to order what I want in Spanish, whether it's coffee with milk or fried eggs with ham or any of the incredible pastries in the display case ( I point and ask what's inside of it!). If you don't know any Spanish at all, have you thought of learning a little bit, or would you rather come here and complain it's a dump and write snarky reviews on Yelp? Did that bitchy review make your vacation or life better? Did it support fellow Yelpers understanding what they can get here in the eating food or service? No, I doubt it. Stay home wherever home is, get some therapy for your nasty attitude, and don't be toxic wherever you go to. The coffee is strong. Hot. Fresh. The bread used to make sandwiches is made here. It's wonderful Puerto Rican water bread. Buy it by the loaf for the day, like the locals do. Breakfasts are cooked to order, as are the sandwiches. Does it take time? Yes. Does it take 25 minutes? I've never experienced that in 30+ years, whether it's in the height of the season or not. I don't come to Vieques for fast anything. It's counter intuitive. And if I were a local working here and a person orders who has an attitude, maybe I'd be just a bit slower, as poetic justice. The pastries with guava are awesome. As are any filled with sweet cheeses. Just get them. Get a coffee. Sit and watch people come and go. Watch the social scene. Watch the kids stopping by on their way to school. Or the police who park their cars half off the street and come in and get their stuff. Note, many locals phone their order in before arriving so they ask for it and thus, it may appear like they are being served ahead of you. Not the case. They've added tables and chairs to the sidewalk which I thought was cool. See, now you can drink a coffee and eat a guava filled pastry on the street, observing all of the life out there. And don't write snarky reviews about how slow it is. This is cash only. Tips should be added to the jar on the counter. If you don't have money to tip, stay home. Possibly the best sandwiches we have ever had. Got them to go and ate them at Sea Glass Beach. We had the Cubano, Punta Arenas, and the pork sandwich. The coffee was really good too. We will definitely be back! Sandwiches were definitely big enough for 2 people to share. read more

First place I visited when arriving to Vieques for the weekend. Waiting time was average; considering the place had only us, party of 3, and two other tables, we waited almost 25-30 minutes, which is very long, even on island time, for what we ordered. Customer service was good, but it could be much better considering there was only one person up front. My party ordered three ham, cheese, and egg sandwiches. Sandwiches were good, but extremely overpriced ($6.24 for one sandwich). It should be pointed out that menus were apparently recently increased since photos provided on the review site have lower, more adequate, prices. The sandwiches only includes the three food items above without option to add any veggies or any sides, like maybe potato sticks. Additionally, sandwiches were small sized, I'd say smaller than traditional sandwiches at other local bakeries, and served on wax paper wrapping. We also ordered two regular coffees and an apple juice. Grand total of the meal was $28.00, which I don't consider adequate for the items ordered. Overall the place was not horrible but, due to waiting time and overpriced meals, I'd recommend considering other local bakeries or restaurant for better breakfast options. read more

This place was an excellent recommendation from one of the divemasters that we toured with this morning. It did not disappoint! The front is deceiving...it looked closed because the seahorse shaped wrought iron doors were hard to see through. Thankfully we were hungry and persistent and made our way in to find this adorably decorated little cafe. It's still on island time...there was one girl running the whole place and it's not fast food as other reviewers are apparently used to. I ordered the Cubano and it was incredible. It was just the right size and average price considering the island prices. Even the music was enjoyable. We wished we would've found this place sooner in our trip! read more

This bakery does not look like much from the outside (or from the inside, for that matter)... No frills. The interior is very bare, and all the food you'll see when you walk is a few pastries in a window. Seriously: the first time I walked in there, I walked right back out, that's how unimpressive it is. But: it's actually pretty good. Their pastries are reasonably tasty. The highlight, though, is their sandwiches, which are made to order and are pressed (like panini). The bread is good, and there's a huge variety of fillings. I really enjoyed the tuna, and the ham/egg/cheese is pretty good too. The place is frequented by locals and tourists alike, and it's a pretty good place to stop by for a quick breakfast. 3-1/2 stars. read more

Going back to the main land from Vieques is a bit of a hassle: the first ferry leaves at.....6:30am (UGH!), the second one at 11am. Well....that's life guys. Nothing is totally perfect, even in paradise and you'd better deal with it. I did. And gladly so. We asked our publico driver to drop us off here around 8am. It was busy with locals and school students. SCORE. The people behind the counter were not the most pleasant ever but who cares when it's before-your-first-coffee early? Not this gal. We ordered donuts and café con leche and sat down, happy. The pastries were absolutely delicious. We devoured them in no time. And the café con leche?!?! This is a great place for breakfast or a snack break that I would strongly recommend. I came here for breakfast, but by the time I arrived, breakfast options including fried eggs and omelettes were all sold out. So we ordered two cafe latte, two pastries and a Cuban sandwich, and everything was great! Staff was friendly and ambiance was nice and relaxing. In yet another example of being treated "like a tourist," my family was extremely disappointed in this little dump. At first, it seemed fine, dumpy, but the girl at the counter was friendly enough. Fast forward 30-45 minutes later, our two little sandwiches still weren't ready. They just kept pushing our order back over and over to accommodate the locals. And I understand that tourists can be annoying - but we sat very patiently and politely, our kids staying seated and waiting very nicely (I was proud of them!), but it didn't matter. If we hadn't have already paid, we would have left and gotten to the beach a lot earlier. The worst part: having to explain to your children why we were being treated so poorly. Well everyone sends people here for coffee. I live right around the corner from them and before the hurricane they had great coffee, I'm not sure why people aare still being sent here. I had the worst watered down cappuccino I've ever had for $6, double, equal to vending machine coffee. The staff seems put out that you are there. People often talk about the eye roll you get when ordering. They do have baked goods and maybe bread, but I don't wanna bother the staff with ordering. I've been in a few times trying to find good hot coffee, cappuccino or latte, on the island I won't go here again. They are very busy with tourists and there can be a wait as the staff is slow. The sandwiches pre-hurricane were huge, since the remodel they are lack luster. They are cash only and have NO wifi. read more

Swung by on a Monday morning after a good bout of swimming around 9.30am! Several locals were lined up when I got there and continued to stream in. But I've heard that rush hour is right when they open :) What a lovely place. Due to Covid I couldn't go inside but the owner himself (Mr. Ragnar) was taking orders. What a kind dear person! And funny too :) I used a little broken Spanish to start with but he quickly switched to English and saved me further embarrassment haha. They only had a few pastries and sandwiches left. So I ordered a cubano, ham & cheese, and his favorite, Punta arenas! Yum. Very lavish serving of meats and the bread is amazing!!!! I was also lucky to get the very last of the quesitos, which Mr. Ragnar suggested I eat first if I was going to share (best advice ever), and a guava donut! Omg. I want to come back when Covid restrictions are lifted completely and enjoy everything here hot from the presses! I had to wait to start enjoying the sandwiches and while they were still amazing, I can only imagine how melt in the mouth they'd be if they were still piping hot. Little hole in the wall with sandwiches that you can't beat. I found this spot the last day I was on the island and it was a hidden jewel. The bread that is used is sweet and crispy and makes the sandwich. I don't remember the menu but the breakfast sandwiches I had were awesome and I wanted to take some too the room. It is rare that I would rate somewhere so unbelievably low. However, it was very obvious that since we were not locals, we were not welcome. We ordered our food, then proceeded to wait a half an hour for it to be ready. Our order was only two sandwiches. At least 20 residents came in during that time and had their orders made immediately. We stopped by here only once, and ordered the Criolle Omelette and one of their sweet cheese pastries. I loved the pastry since they had filled it with an abundance of sweet cheese! Had to wait in line for about 20 mins before ordering. The coffee was ok. They have a nice expresso machine but they just make regular café con leche. The sandwiches are pricey, they run between $5 and $11. Because of the price, we decided to share a beef steak sandwich. The wait for the sandwich was another extra 20-30 mins. For $10, it was not as big as expected.. and not as delicious as other beef steak sandwiches that we've had before (trust me, we've had our share of them).
