Pal's is one of my favorite Bristol-area stops on road trips between my hometown and my new town. Truthfully, Pal's is the reason I plan my gas and food break there at all. There's something about Pal's that takes me back to being a kid, riding with my dad to a tiny drive-thru burger spot where the food was simple, fast, and made with care. This place carries that same spirit. The service is fast but still welcoming. I parked in the small lot that runs parallel to the drive-thru and enjoyed my meal from the car, watching the steady flow of customers come and go. My order was a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a vanilla milkshake. The food was fresh, tasty, and made for me... a classic drive-thru. The highlight, though, was a small moment of kindness. The young man at the window spotted my puppy and offered her a dog treat, which instantly made the stop feel even more personal and welcoming. Passing through at lunchtime and we knew where we wanted to eat lunch. They have the best hotdogs and I love the peach tea. The staff is always cheerful and service is very fast. It's only drive through so keep that in mind if you stop. There's always several customers parking eating in the car just like we do. If you love hot dogs this is your spot. I never heard of Pal's before but I came to understand that it's a Southern burger franchise like In and Out Burger or Five Guys. When I saw the crazy drive-through line up full of local licence plates that's when I realized, it must be good. I tried out their burger (very good), fries (a bit too salty) and sweet iced tea( fine). It's better than McDonalds, Wendy's and Burger King and they basically make a smash burger. Hard to explain this place. Kinda like a local variant of McDonald's but better. Food was quick and on par with what was expected. No custom $8 burgers here. Service was fast and friendly. Give it a try if you are in the mood for fast food. read more

We saw a long line at the first we passed and similarly this one had a line out of the parking lot. We got the sauce burger with cheese and the beef is insipid like most of these fast food joints. The sauce was perhaps chilidog sauce? It is cheap fast food so I'm not sure why folks are lining up. Pal's held great promise then fell way short. It's a regional fast food chain mainly serving burger and hotdogs from their drive thru window. I love a good dive thru burger, but these were steamed like McDonalds. The dogs were soft and squishy, lacking any snap in the casing. The meat sauce topping to the hotdog lacked any distinctive flavor. Lastly, the chocolate shake was really just vanilla soft serve with a squirt of chocolate sauce. I know this because the employee who made mine only half mixed in the syrup so I has a vaguely half chocolate mixture. There were a couple highlights. The fries were tasty and overall, the meal was cheap. Two burgers, a hotdog with the works, a shake and large fry was only $16 altogether. The long line of cars for the drive thru hinted of something good to be found, but I didn't find it here. read more

I decided to order food from this restaurant after stopping for gas in the area. The plain and outdated 70's style building caught my eye. I wasn't afraid to try the food, considering the disappointments that I usually have when dining out. I ordered two hotdogs with onions and chillin. The dogs were small, and the chili was bland. There was no special flavor, slaw, or condiment added to cause me to crave more food. Maybe a bacon or house cheeseburger would have won me over...I'm out! read more

Pal's is a regional fast food chain with 30 locations! All locations are located along the Tennessee/Virginia border. We haven't spent much time in this area (we live in Middle Tennessee), but we were driving through Bristol VA/TN on the way back to Nashville at the end of a roadtrip. Pal's was exactly what we were craving after a long day of driving: simple, classic burgers! My husband got a double sauceburger with cheese (the sauceburger is just meat and sauce unless you want cheese or bacon added), which he loved. I got the Junior Burger with cheese (the junior burger is a beef patty with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion). I'm a bit of a burger purist, so I really enjoyed this classic take on the burger (although I did miss pickles - guessing you can add them?). We also shared some fries - very seasoned and very crispy - just how I like them. An affordable meal, quick, drive-thru meal! It hit the spot. I'd definitely be happy to eat there again if we're driving through the area. read more

When you come back for a visit, be it monthly or yearly, Pal's is a must have . The fries, always hot and perfectly seasoned. The sweet tea that turned me from a sweet tea hater to a sweet tea lover. Fresh burgers, outstanding breakfast with the must have cheddar rounds. This place is Bristol. 2 junior burgers w/ cheese, 1 fry to share, & 2 sweet teas for $8. The drive thru had a crazy line when we passed by earlier & again when we came to order, but it moved quickly. We came back again for brunch the next day - this time 2 regular size burgers (big pal), 1 fry, & 2 teas - fell in right around $12. The fries have a good seasoning on them & are fresh. The burger wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still good. The tea was really good (& a large is huge!). Usually this location has fast and accurate service but today wasn't the day. I went through around three or four o'clock and ordered a big chicken, a large fry, and a normal fry. When I received my meal I took it home and stored one of the fries and my sandwich in my fridge. When I later went to reach for my usually delicious sandwich for dinner I opened it only to realize that there was barely any chicken on it. Got my food in less than 3 minutes and they are so friendly. My friend Jesse Marvin would loves this place and he probable would come here everyday. $5.87 for big Pal w/cheese and fried what a deal. As a former SW Virginian, home sweet home will always mean a bright blue brick drive-in decorated with a gigantic hot dog, hamburger, and frenchie fries. Everything on the menu is a winner, but the thing I miss the most is probably the chipped ham with cheese (no mayo, yes pickles). I also really love the cheddar rounds on the breakfast menu. Or wait, maybe my favorite is the hot dog with chili and onions? Hm. Could also be the sauce (SAWce) burger. It's probably no surprise that I gain at least five pounds whenever I visit my family in Virginia. At least half of it is from the non-stop Pal's binges, I guarantee. And yes, I do have dreams about their big sweet tea with lemon. Los Angeles has nothing like that, I will tell you right now. read more

We had to check out this place and its awesome building. It is drive-through only, but the line moved very quickly. The seasoned shoestring fries were great, but the bacon cheeseburger was fairly small and average for the price we paid. Worth a trip to check it out, though. 3.5 stars read more

I have thankfully grown up in an area that has a Pals. It is by far my favorite drive through for a quick burger/fries and tea. You really can't beat it for the price. My fiancé isn't from this area and says it tastes like carnival food...I say what's wrong with that!!! It really is like dive bar food without the bar part!! Soooooo delicious!! read more

Completely over rated and a little bit expensive for some items. The hot dogs are just ok and the fries are very dry most of the time. They make a fortune on soft drinks because they are always 95 percent ice. I made a complaint once and they didn't even give me a reply. I do like the hamburgers though. read more
