They know how to attack each obstacle to provide a high level of adventure while doing it safely. All of the staff were well educated and friendly. They all had an amazing general knowledge of botany, zoology, geography, and natural history. If an individual guide could not answer your question, they were quick to research it in their extensive library or consult other guides. We had a reservation for the 4:00 PM mine tour on 8/1. Not being from that area, I called the…read moreweek before while planning our activities for the day, to confirm our family (7 people) had time to complete the Hiawatha Bike Route and make their 4:00 tour. The gentleman I spoke with confirmed both were do-able on the same day. Unfortunately, he neglected to mention that we needed to be at their site 15 minutes prior to the tour. We completed our bike ride but the gps indicated we would arrive at 4:08 PM. Since we were such a large family, I called as a courtesy at 3:50 PM to update our timing. Upon opening the reservation email for their phone number, I saw the request to check-in 15 minutes early. Kelly, the manager, told me they would not wait for us. She said the guides are retired miners, and she would not ask them to wait - even though we comprised 7 of the 9 attendees of the 4:00 tour. She said we had to arrive in 5 minutes (3:55 PM) or rebook for another day. Unfortunately, we couldn't legally drive that fast and were leaving the area. So, we had to decline those options. That same evening, we got a text asking us to leave a review. I hate sharing grievances publicly. So today, 8/7 I called again, hopeful that we could reach a compromise with some shared responsibility in the mix up. However, she was so argumentative I couldn't get a word in. When I tried to speak, she'd talk over me and just went into a rant. I was never able to deliver my suggestion. I concluded this was not productive and while she was still ranting, I disconnected the call to begin writing this review. Despite my reluctance for saying anything negative publicly. Truth be told, I have no idea if it's a good tour or not. Perhaps the staff are wonderful - I can't really say. But Kelly is a bulldog and not suitable to interface with customers. Perhaps this "heads up" on the rigidity of policy will spare another family the huge disappointment our 9-year-old faced. He is a rockhound and had been so excited about this tour. We had planned to stay for four nights, but after arriving, we quickly decided to leave. When we checked in, Peter greeted us politely and handed us an envelope with our campsite information. I knew the campground was close to the highway, but I was hoping the campsites themselves would be pleasant. Unfortunately, our assigned site was far too narrow to be comfortable. As I pulled in, the campers next to us were struggling to empty their black tank and were using a water hose to wash away the mess. Before I even got out of my truck, the smell of sewage was overwhelming. We drove back toward the entrance and stopped to discuss whether we should stay. A man approached us and asked what the problem was. I assumed he was an employee, so I explained that the campsite was too small. He replied, "Is the real problem the people next to you?" I said that was certainly a concern. He then walked away, and we decided to leave. The next day, I called the campground and spoke with Peter again. He told me that the man who approached us was actually a former employee who had been fired several weeks earlier but still lives on the property. That only added to our concerns. Overall, the campground felt more like a dilapidated trailer park than a campground. Peter acknowledged that he understood my concerns about the sewage situation. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be charged since we left immediately, but he said there was nothing he could do and suggested I contact the owners in California. I emailed the company but never received a response. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this campground. If you're looking for an enjoyable camping trip, I suggest staying somewhere else.

We were lucky to have been paired up with Jose who drove us from one to the next on a perfectly selected bunch of wineries that were all different and equally as fantastic. Our group is no quiet bunch that has a good time, so Jose was fun and fit right in. He is from the area and gave good insight on other wineries to check out after our tour was over, restaurants and eateries in the area, local hot spots...when in doubt ask Jose. Before we set off on the grand tour, he greeted us promptly with two bottles of wine that we saved for later. There were 7 of us and we all were comfortable in the van that was provided. For our day out, we made several stops that included: Walla Walla Vintners - The vineyard and landscape is cozy and very comfortable. We were the only group there and got a really great conversation going about their wines and about a couple of other places to try out. The interior is beautiful with stained barn doors and paneled windows. For the wines...don't be afraid to go back and forth. I did a taste test without knowing which wine was which and wound up enjoying a wine that was completely unexpected. I loved that this was encouraged. They want you to drink what is perfect for your palette. Tranche - This is a very modern winery with beautiful art scattered around. Had it been a warmer day and the back doors opened into a courtyard overlooking the vines it would be have been perfect. They have a variety of lighter bodied wines, so if you're looking for a blush. Alluve - Interesting backstory of the couple who served in the Air Force, it's a very small tasting room at the top of their Italian themed villa. The landscaping was beautiful, but the story on the property is well worth a listen to. Amavi - Two words. Vintage Chevy. Be prepared to pay upfront for your wine tasting here and be given a token to be used when you purchase wine later. The winery itself is very spacious and offers gorgeous views. We had a personal tasting with the owner who walked us through their wines as well as the history of the winery and he offered to take a picture of us in an old vintage Chevrolet truck on the property. We took full advantage and absolutely wanted Jose to be part of that picture because he had been such a great guide for the entire day. Castillo de Feliciana Vineyard and Winery - This winery, and the experience of it is why we are thankful for Freddy G's service. We made this our last stop (that's a lot of wine tasting!) and it was the best recommendation on the fly. We turned to Jose and asked about a winery with bubbles and he was immediate in responding. His knowledge of the wineries, and his personal taste came right into play and it was outstanding. The winery is basically a Spanish villa and utterly adorable. There was only one person working and she was busy, but don't let that discourage, she was well aware of who was coming and going and did not forget anyone during their tasting. Because there's some driving involved getting from one place to the next, we bypassed wasting any time for ourselves and took up a great recommendation from Jose and from one of the wineries had him pick up some lunch for us from a delicious lunch spot called Graze. Yum, the food hit the spot and held us over until we parked it on the next tasting. Working with Freddy to get the logistics prepared for the wineries and then having Jose made for a great first time outing in Walla Walla. We had great communication and it was a smooth and easy process and the overall service provided was above and beyond. I highly recommend as wine tasting can be daunting in a very spread out region, this took the stress out of trying to figure out what winery to go to when there's well over 160 to choose from.
