We had planned to stay at the campground and take the mine tour. I honestly don't understand how this campground has so many positive reviews. We had planned to stay for four nights, but after arriving, we quickly decided to leave. When we checked in, Peter greeted us politely and handed us an envelope with our campsite information. I knew the campground was close to the highway, but I was hoping the campsites themselves would be pleasant. Unfortunately, our assigned site was far too narrow to be comfortable. As I pulled in, the campers next to us were struggling to empty their black tank and were using a water hose to wash away the mess. Before I even got out of my truck, the smell of sewage was overwhelming. We drove back toward the entrance and stopped to discuss whether we should stay. A man approached us and asked what the problem was. I assumed he was an employee, so I explained that the campsite was too small. He replied, "Is the real problem the people next to you?" I said that was certainly a concern. He then walked away, and we decided to leave. The next day, I called the campground and spoke with Peter again. He told me that the man who approached us was actually a former employee who had been fired several weeks earlier but still lives on the property. That only added to our concerns. Overall, the campground felt more like a dilapidated trailer park than a campground. Peter acknowledged that he understood my concerns about the sewage situation. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be charged since we left immediately, but he said there was nothing he could do and suggested I contact the owners in California. I emailed the company but never received a response. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this campground. If you're looking for an enjoyable camping trip, I suggest staying somewhere else. read more

We came to Coeur d' Alene during December and museums and other places are closed for the season. I really wanted to go to the silver mine, but it was closed for the season, but this Gold mine is open. Based on the reviews, decided to come. This is a tourist trap for sure. This is located in Kellogg, Idaho. The price of $27 a person is high when you factor in length of tour compared to price. Was planning on staying here till we checked it out, not only right off the highway and very loud but the pricing is outrageous for the location, the mine tour is expensive for how long you go for and they don't even offer you a baggie for your gold mining they want you to buy one. The gift shop is HEAVILY overpriced. The employees are unaware of what the word hygiene means or that it exists. This place seems poorly ran and inefficient management. Only nice perk was how easy it was to access of the main road and they have a full bath and dog park on site. No other amenities or things to do for the kids or family. Heavy don't recommend! Neat gift shop! Super nice and knowledgeable staff. The tour was awesome and worth doing! We brought our 7 year old and our 1 year old with no issues. Unforgettable experience! As we checked in after a long day of travel, Dan & Holly went WAY above and beyond to accommodate us despite an error I had made in booking our site. They were extremely welcoming and eager to share about restaurants and attractions in the area. Their suggestion of the close-by Casa de Oro Mexican restaurant was terrific and we ended up dining there twice! As for the mine, Destiny provided us a fascinating tour, and expertly appealed to our three children's interests. She had clearly done her research about the history and was open and responsive to our many questions. Her delivery of content was both humorous and memorable! Finally, there was Matt who greeted us with a smile the moment we approached to do our tour. After the tour, Matt was patient and inspiring, taking great amounts of time, particularly with our youngest child, showing him how to pan for gems and gold. He explained the difference between pyrite and gold and shared the differences between miners' techniques and this experience. He genuinely shared their enthusiasm as they sifted their gem bags in the sluice. Overall, our family shared an unforgettable time at Crystal Gold Mine & RV Park. We greatly enjoyed this visit during our family vacation to the area. Our tour guide, Destiny, was very knowledgable and so great with our four children. The tour itself is interesting and sparked lots of questions that Destiny was able to easily answer in fun and engaging ways. We also loved the gold and gems panning at the end of the tour. I was trying to decide between this gold mine and the silver mine in Wallace for our experience (both sounded great) and ultimately picked this gold mine because the panning was included. I'm glad I did- we all loved it! In fact, at the end of our panning time all four kids (including the sometimes hard to please teenager) were begging for just a few more minutes. Definitely a highlight of our Idaho adventure! The tour was as entertaining as it was informative. I learned so much about mining, how to identify areas rich with gems and minerals according to their appearance and characteristics in the rough. Our tour guide was a spirited and engaging young woman whose husband and kiddo taught us how to pan once we'd emerged from the cave. Zachariah, the boy, helped fill my pan so fast that even my highly competitive fiancé had to admit defeat. The charming "Jackpot Zach" / "Zach of All Trades" (as I nicknamed him) has a knack for many things besides panning, and if you're lucky you might even get a free show at the end of the tour (kid's a whiz on the bike and knows quite a few tricks). Memorable moments in the cave included seeing the natural crystals forming along its walls (taking on different colors indicative of adjacent silver, copper or iron), touching some very large gold nuggets, staring into the watery depths of formerly active mining sites (in which pumping out water by hand was a daily and grueling ritual), catching glimpses of plant life (mushrooms and moss), and experiencing the blackest of black ever in my life when our tour guide turned out the lights to reveal a candle before blowing out the candle to show us what it was like for miners to work when candlelight needed to be reserved. They also have a beautiful gift shop with all kinds of jewelry and other items that make for perfect gifts. The shop has an unusual assortment of things that are surprisingly affordable and fairly priced! What a great day! read more

Quick with the jokes, knowledge and witty comebacks to my attempts to scare both my girlfriend and her on the tour, she MADE not only the tour but also our day. I cannot thank her enough. My family and I went on a spur of the moment tour of the mines. We have to say the tour guide we had of the mines was excellent. She was very patient with our questions and gave us really great info about the history of the mine, a miner's life, and the conditions of working in such a place. She was really great and gave us tons of info (I believe she's studying to be an Anthropologist?) 5 out of 5. She was all set to show us how to pan for gold (despite the weather being super chilly). This RV park is terrible. They will charge your credit card and not return any money if you have a change of plans and do not arrive. We had to cancel our reservations 2 weeks out, and they still charged our card. Nobody answers the phone, and they do not return emails. Had to file a dipute with the credit card company. Customer service is terrible. Will never stay here. Hopefully I can get our money back that they just take from you. read more

called and got reservations. Had a emergency and had to cancel in less than 24 hours with almost three weeks from our book date. They still charged me over $100 to cancel. Plans changed in that three weeks and we were in the area and still went to the Mine Tour (Good tour). When I asked if there was any openings they said they were booked. When driving through the place there was about 5 vacant spots. Right on I90, not impressed with the place. I am guessing other people that had to cancel and not got a refund or may they left! We have been RV'in for a year and have never herd of not being able to cancel with reasonable notice, we were almost three week out with less that 24 hours of booking time. Beware of places like this!! Gas prices are bad enough don't need RV Parks to rip you off!! We like the area and spent a week traveling up and down I90. We found many other places (hard to find on the internet) that were much nicer and better rates and openings! Not sure why Crystal Mine RV Park would have gotten so many good rates??? read more

We lucked out finding this wonderful gem of family fun. After spending two days at Silverwood, we were ready to see the area and just see the sights. It's nice to go somewhere not over commercialized and run by the owners. Pappy took us for a tour of the mine which included fun hard hats and flashlights. The mine is full of rich deposits where you can view gold, silver and copper!!! After the tour Pappy who is the owners dad and a former miner took us over to mine for gold in several tubs. The kids were crazy for this and the adults were as eager to find some treasure. This is worth the 30 min drive from Coeur d'Alene, you won't be disappointed. Then head to the town of Wallace, you actually feel like you are part of the 1800's. Great day! read more

The most expensive and the worst RV park we have stayed at! By a long shot! There is $30.00 overnight parking by the very nice park in Kellogg. Stay there! We wish we did. No less amenities and much more enjoyable. We broke down in Kellogg and it was recommended we stay close to Les Schwab to prevent further damage as we waited for parts. We paid over $100.00 per night, thinking initially we would try to make the best of what we thought must be a luxury park due to the prices though it was over our budget. Extortion! It was shocking to drive up and see what we had just paid for. I asked to cancel it immediately and they said I would be charged anyway for the full three days because I needed to cancel 24 hours in advance for partial refund though I booked it less than two hours before. We stayed. adjacent, not only to a highway but a freeway. The road noise was to anyone's standards Very loud and constant, especially when semi trucks passed. Absolutely NO internet despite the WiFi password and the pretense of "weak internet". My view was junk from the back yard of a neighboring home. The review rating that seemed higher was the mine tour only NOT the RV park. The was no laundry on-site, no showers, one toilet with a cold water sink that was only open during the mine tour hours. Obviously this was a park for long term renters with older RV's and several vehicles, kenneled dogs etc. We could have made the best of breaking down and staying there for less than half the price we paid but it is BAD CHARACTER and BAD BUSINESS to charge so much and give so little a damn about the service you provide. read more

We saw Crystal Goldmine as we drove by it. On a whim we decided to turn around and check it out. We are so glad we did! This was such a fun adventure! Our guide, and the rest of the staff were wonderful. We had the best time seeing all of the amazing little formations inside the cave. After the tour, we panned for gold outside. It was awesome! And unlike many gold panning experiences I've had, there are actually little garnets, gems and other beautiful rocks along with the gold dust in the panning area. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure. read more

We really loved this place. We stayed overnight in the RV park with our trailer. Came in on Saturday early and did the mine tour which was very interesting for all of us including 2 boys 7 and 10. The RV park is very basic -nothing fancy and it's close to the freeway so you definitely hear highway noise but it was still fine. The owner and the tour guide and everyone who works there was incredibly nice. A great trip and the boys want to come back soon! read more

I wanted to do this mine tour as part of an anniversary trip. When I found out it was just walk in and no set tour times I was skeptical on how good it would be. I must say I was really impressed. Our guide (Benny I think) was really good and told great stories. The gold panning is really just panning for pretty rocks in some plastic tubs. My kid liked it but I lost interest quick.
