We saw a few people get drunk, beligerant, and not wearing PFDs across the river one day. Some of the other river guide companies do not operate a tight ship. I'm so glad we went with OARS because my stress level was zero other than the rapids. The 5-day down the Snake River was perfect as you really get into the groove of rafting that 3rd day. It was a terrific adventure, but what made it so great had a lot to do with our guides and their friendly, hard working and professional manner. The team leader was Caroline who was so impressively competent. All the other guides deferred to her easily and she made intelligent decisions to keep the trip safe from high and fast water as well as comfortable with well chosen camp sites and interesting hikes and things to see. While she took charge readily, she did it with a smile and a great sense of humor. I like to joke around a bit and Caroline was right there making me feel comfortable and joking right back with me. We shared some wonderful conversations that made the trip even more special and memorable. I probably will never see her again, but I will always remember how capable, kind and personable she is. Her 3 other guides were Caiden, Shane and a trainee John Evans. I was so impressed with how open and friendly they all were. We had lots of time to just talk and relax both on the river and in camp. They all joined in our group like they were one of us talking about their lives and things they liked when we asked. Always smiling and friendly. They didn't ever monopolize the conversation or become too opinionated. They just joined in and flowed with the group just like the river we were floating on. Every day they spent arduous time setting up camp and then breaking camp the next morning, cooking really tasty meals 3 times a day and tending to all of our questions and needs. They truly never complained. They would put us first when we needed something always with a no problem attitude. I never heard one of them complain or act in a way that was unbecoming of the job they were doing. For 6 straight days to do all that work with never a complaint was amazing to me. I believe they all love what they do and take the job as a treat to be out in the wilderness riding the rapids and sharing with people an amazing adventure in the wilderness. I'm 71. I may never do a trip like that again just because of my age and stage in life, but if I do, it will for sure be with the O.A.R.S. team and I hope I'm lucky enough to get to reconnect with any of those wonderful guides.

On a weekend getaway filled with celebrations, we spent an entire Saturday touring not one, not…read moretwo, but five wineries and had it not been for Freddy Gs who knows where we'd have gone. We were lucky to have been paired up with Jose who drove us from one to the next on a perfectly selected bunch of wineries that were all different and equally as fantastic. Our group is no quiet bunch that has a good time, so Jose was fun and fit right in. He is from the area and gave good insight on other wineries to check out after our tour was over, restaurants and eateries in the area, local hot spots...when in doubt ask Jose. Before we set off on the grand tour, he greeted us promptly with two bottles of wine that we saved for later. There were 7 of us and we all were comfortable in the van that was provided. For our day out, we made several stops that included: Walla Walla Vintners - The vineyard and landscape is cozy and very comfortable. We were the only group there and got a really great conversation going about their wines and about a couple of other places to try out. The interior is beautiful with stained barn doors and paneled windows. For the wines...don't be afraid to go back and forth. I did a taste test without knowing which wine was which and wound up enjoying a wine that was completely unexpected. I loved that this was encouraged. They want you to drink what is perfect for your palette. Tranche - This is a very modern winery with beautiful art scattered around. Had it been a warmer day and the back doors opened into a courtyard overlooking the vines it would be have been perfect. They have a variety of lighter bodied wines, so if you're looking for a blush. Alluve - Interesting backstory of the couple who served in the Air Force, it's a very small tasting room at the top of their Italian themed villa. The landscaping was beautiful, but the story on the property is well worth a listen to. Amavi - Two words. Vintage Chevy. Be prepared to pay upfront for your wine tasting here and be given a token to be used when you purchase wine later. The winery itself is very spacious and offers gorgeous views. We had a personal tasting with the owner who walked us through their wines as well as the history of the winery and he offered to take a picture of us in an old vintage Chevrolet truck on the property. We took full advantage and absolutely wanted Jose to be part of that picture because he had been such a great guide for the entire day. Castillo de Feliciana Vineyard and Winery - This winery, and the experience of it is why we are thankful for Freddy G's service. We made this our last stop (that's a lot of wine tasting!) and it was the best recommendation on the fly. We turned to Jose and asked about a winery with bubbles and he was immediate in responding. His knowledge of the wineries, and his personal taste came right into play and it was outstanding. The winery is basically a Spanish villa and utterly adorable. There was only one person working and she was busy, but don't let that discourage, she was well aware of who was coming and going and did not forget anyone during their tasting. Because there's some driving involved getting from one place to the next, we bypassed wasting any time for ourselves and took up a great recommendation from Jose and from one of the wineries had him pick up some lunch for us from a delicious lunch spot called Graze. Yum, the food hit the spot and held us over until we parked it on the next tasting. Working with Freddy to get the logistics prepared for the wineries and then having Jose made for a great first time outing in Walla Walla. We had great communication and it was a smooth and easy process and the overall service provided was above and beyond. I highly recommend as wine tasting can be daunting in a very spread out region, this took the stress out of trying to figure out what winery to go to when there's well over 160 to choose from.
