Location: fantastic! 5 min walk away from main downtown area! We walked back from the bar at midnight and felt safe! It's an easy walk to all main spots! The Inn: gorgeous! The outside doesn't look big but it's massive inside! It's got roughly 5 bedrooms! The owners stock up the refrigerator with drinks and yoghurt for guests, and there is fresh baked cookies to snack on through the day! The have great teas and coffees 24/7 too. Super cozy and delightful overall! Room: We had the master suite on the top floor and it was super spacious and clean. They have great high quality products! Loved the shampoo, conditioner and lotion! The breakfast! Tim (owner) is a fantastic cook! Each night we would place an order for what we wanted for breakfast the next day! They have a gourmet touch to their breakfast! Tim makes food like an artist does his art! His passion for the culinary shows through the taste and presentation! It's incredibly beautiful! We lived everything we had for breakfast! Overall we had a fantastic stay! I can't wait to be back! I highly recommend this place! Tim and Kim are simply the best!

But when you do, the view will capture your heart. The gardens around the place are beautiful. Our king suite was so clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was more comfortable than my own bed at home. The full glass windows give the most spectacular view. Everything you need is there. Ann and Mike were great hosts. They know the area and gave great suggestions, directions and history. Merlin is the best companion/watch dog. Breakfast Saturday morning featured farm fresh eggs from chickens on the property. Everything about our stay exceeded expectations!

You will need to drive to the estate wineries - but exploring Main street is a FLIPPIN' BLAST- especially on bikes! Penny is a delight! She is so knowledgable about where to go and knows everyone in town. She is so thoughtful and has thought of every detail for her guests. Her bathroom is stocked with beautiful lavendar bath salts and lotions! The place smells like fresh baked cookies, probably because she just baked them! She has coffee service set out and her etiquite is from the 'good ol' days' so you feel kinda spoiled using a teacup with a nice little spoon to stir your milk that you have poured from a petite milk creamer jar. Penny takes care of the entire place and you can tell she puts her heart into it. Penny cooks a lavish breakfast every morning. Save up your calories for her breakfast. Her beds and bedding are very comfortable....and so so much lovelier than staying at a hotel. My husband and I have come to love Penny and have been staying there for three years. She is now like family to us! She deserves ONLY good people staying here, so if you are a good, decent, kind person, you should stay at Penny's Maxwell House!

The house itself is a period piece full of cool antiques - in a "wow, that's an awesome spindle" type of way, not in a "crap, what if I touch something and break it?" way. The room where we stayed was very comfortable and had an awesome claw-footed bathtub. There were bicycles available, which we unfortunately didn't take advantage of during our stay. Every morning, we were served an amazing homemade breakfast (usually involving fresh fruit) on gorgeous china by the innkeeper, Penny, who is also one of the sweetest women you'll ever meet. If you're looking for a relaxing weekend or mini-vacation, I highly recommend checking out the Maxwell House!

I'd still be there if that was possible. It's a huge house - and there is no sharing with other guests. If you book a stay, for example, for two people - you get the whole house to yourselves! The host and caretaker, Vicki Broekel, comes in the morning (at a time guests choose) and fixes a real farm breakfast right there in the cheery red and white kitchen with vintage decor. The beds are very comfortable and Vicki keeps the house very clean. The resident cat "Sis" is a welcome presence. A Great Horned Owl lives on the property and he's an amazing sight to see. (Apparently he and Sis have come to some sort of agreement, or she'd have been dinner long ago). The grounds are beautiful and the decor of the home fits with it's character and construction in the early 1900s. Wifi is free and there is excellent cell coverage. The TV is not HD and there are limited channels, but the best view is of the expanse of fields from the front porch swing. Several hundred horses are pastured across the road and it was lots of fun watching them. I just can't wait to go back. This is the kind of B&B that would serve as a perfect writer's retreat or a getaway with a goal of peace and quiet. Don't expect ongoing touristy "activities" in the area......this is prairie country, for farming and ranching and appreciating the beauty of "nothing but land and sky."
