Arabic style lamb and beef

I feel like I'm walking through Mykonos whenever I take a bite into their food the service was great and the honey balls are very crisp

My favorite falafel.
Jill H.

First, you need to know that this is not your typical mall food court food. The first time I ever tried Palmyra, I told my husband they served some of the best falafel I've ever had. I always order the chicken and falafel combo plate that comes with rice and diced tomatoes/cukes/lettuce, and some pita. It's all good. All of it. I've tried the falafel, the chicken, and the lamb/beef. It's all delicious, and the rice is a fluffy bed of goodness for it all. The garlic sauce is a tasty complement and the hot sauce is a little sweet and will blow your head off so get it on the side if you don't like heat, or you're going to be one sad, hot pup. (I do like heat and I still get it on the side.) But the people that own this place are terrific, and here's why I was extra motivated to leave this review: tonight I had to work late. I sent my family out to dinner so I could work through dinner. They went to a certain mall burger joint and I asked them to bring me Palmyra if it was still open when they were done. "If it's closed when you're done, no big deal." So they went to the counter, and they didn't realize the place was already closing. The owners insisted on serving them anyway. They were out of some things, so they made me a combo plate of the bit of lamb they had left, and a sizeable portion of chicken, plus they fried me two FRESH falafel. (Seriously. They could have just told him, "Sorry, out of falafel," and didn't.) And instead of a bed of rice, they gave me a delicious, generous bed of mujadarra (a special from today, maybe?)--all in all, a *pile* of food. My husband apologized profusely for inconveniencing anyone and thanked them because his wife had to work late and Palmyra was my request. The owner was gracious and just lovely to him. My husband came home and started the story by telling me, "These people are AWESOME." And they really are, because this delicious combo of food hit just right tonight, and hearing that they provided it as they were closing the place for the evening makes me know they're good humans as well as good cooks. And we need more good humans in the world.

Beef and Lamb Shawarma Platter, rice pilaf and Fattoush.

It's been a long time since I've been to South Hills Village so I was surprised to see Palmyra Mediterranean Cuisine in the food court. I ordered the Beef and Lamb Shawarma, rice pilaf and Fattoush Salad (?) since this was my first time trying Palmyra. The platter came with three slices of thin pita bread and a container of yogurt sauce. The lamb and beef was a generous portion, unfortunately the lamb didn't hit the spot for me. There were quite a few good slices of fat but nothing that took away from the portion of meat. The rice pilaf had lentils mixed in and tasted just fine, the Fattoush was really good, and the freshness helped cut some of the greasiness of the meat. It's nice to have some 'real' food in a mall setting, and I do look forward to trying more of the menu whenever I'm at S Hills Village again. For the price of almost $15, it's average when you compare it to what you'd pay at the other food court stops.

Low grade beef. Tons of filler/fat.

Very average. Rice mix is very hard to eat, extremely salty, and the lamb and chicken. Shawarma is way below average and filled with fat. Try and make it to Aladdin's ...if you can

Beef/Lamb platter with extra meat, Baba Ganoush and Spicy Chicken side

Don't let the fact they are in a mall fool you, this place is AWESOME! I have had kebob and shawarma all over the world and this is the real deal! If you are in the area or within a reasonable drive it is worth the trip. Get extra to bring home since it's great as leftovers too!

Combo platter with lamb and beef, falafel, garlic sauce, and pita

Wow, what a gem! I ran here for a quick lunch to bring home and devoured everything. It was definitely enough for two days' worth of lunch, but I just couldn't stop myself. The marinated tomatoes and cucumbers had just the right amount of seasoning, and the lamb and beef was AWESOME. I had watched Beat Bobby Flay the other day, and it had me in the mood for falafel, so I went for the combo. The falafel was super crispy on the outside and soft inside. It wasn't quite the same as I've had wandering the streets of NYC late at night, but it was still very good. I'm looking forward to getting over here again soon.

Chicken, lamb/beef, and falafel with garlic sauce

What a hidden gem in the South Hills Village mall! This was recommended by a friend who said the food was pretty authentic and it was a great meal! The quantity is very generous and meat is well cooked! I do wish there was a chicken option that was more marinated/spicy but worth asking about! The garlic sauce is phenomenal and they give pita as well! The salad was really fresh too! Overall great service and convenient location while you tend to your shopping needs!

The menu lists many meat, seafood, and vegetarian options, and the chefs can accommodate customers on gluten-free and vegan diets. Examples of menu items are lentil soup, babaghanoush, falafel, shepherd salad, lamb chops, many kebabs, sea bass, sautés, house-made desserts such as baklava, and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

I started with a half order of their Greek salad. The salad came out looking pretty good and even though it was very lightly dressed, it tasted vibrant and bright from the cheese and olives on it. I wanted to get some more dressing, but the server didn't come back to ask how things were and she just kept walking by, not even looking for me to wave down. Overall, the salad was decent, but it did need a little more dressing. The kabob came up next and it looked ok. The kabob itself was more on the bland side... I didn't taste herbs and spices at all, more like just grilled meat. The bulgar was excellent and offered lots of flavor, so I tried to eat some with each fork of kabob I bit into. This dish came with a pretty large salad too, which was slightly depressing looking, with some wilted lettuce in it. I also tried their Turkish Tea to start and really liked that. Overall, the service was friendly, just not attentive at all. The venue looks welcoming and warm. Menu has many great options, I feel like I just tried the wrong thing.

We ordered takeout, and the food was generally good. The house salad was fine. Crisp vegetables, but not overwhelming. The choban salad was good, and as expected. The grape leaves were good. The roasted red pepper dip (ezme) was great. Nice roasted red pepper flavor, with some pomegranate sweetness. The stuffed flatbread (gozleme) was really exceptional, with the tomato and pickle accompaniment really adding an additional layer. The hummus bowl and rice bowl options were good. Nice combination of textures and flavors. The pita was phenomenal. It really felt like some love was put into preparing it. All told, this was a nice destination. It seems like they're trying to fill the space of "pizza joint in a university environment" while still trying to establish the add-on of Mediterranean cuisine. I'm here for it. I think the Mediterranean beat works, and is more interesting than the pizza. Hopefully others feel the same way.

The space is tiny and unassuming, and the restaurant seems to be a family run operation. The interior is much more nicely kept than you might guess based on the outside of the building. The staff were very friendly, and all of our food was well packaged. I strongly suggest taking a look at the "Persian Cuisine" section of the menu; in many cases, that section is more interesting than the Turkish grill. In terms of food, things ranged from excellent to pretty good. The hummus was good and nicely textured, but not exceptional. The kashke ve bademjan was excellent, particularly when paired with the nicely toasted flatbread it arrived with. The Mediterranean salad and Tabouli salad were both nicely done, with a nice level of lemon acidity and some shredded cheese on the side. The veggie kebap was fine, but generally flat in flavor: it really needed some of the sides and some hot sauce to fill things out. The red lentil soup was simple with a subtle spicing but ultimately deeply flavorful. The ash reshteh (noodle soup with beans and spinach) was generally good but would have benefited from toppings that would have probably been provided in a dine-in environment. All told, this was a nice little establishment with some excellent Mediterranean and Persian style cuisine. They seem to churn out some high quality food from what seems like a very small kitchen. I could imagine eating in or ordering takeout, but note that the interior space is fairly small with a limited capacity.

It's got a nice location on the central road in Squirrel Hill, but it's a bit hard to find parking. When I got there, I got to try their shish tawouk (chicken kabob), mujadara, salad with feta, and iced mint tea. The tea was pretty alright. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good! One thing to mention generally is this place closes quite early, usually around 8 or 8:30 PM, so do keep it in mind. It is also very clearly a family endeavor, with the mom managing most of the tables and the kids always helping out. Very nice place!
