I'm so surprised to find tasty South Indian food in Oslo. The restaurant has very simple bare bones decor, but the food is tasty and cheap. We ordered the Masala Dosa, Chicken Curry, String Hopper, and Vegetarian Curry. Samosa - Tasty and large, but spicier than any samosa I have had before. Masala Dosa - The Masala Dosa was absolutely delicious! It came with a side of lentils, curries, and sambal. The dosa had thin crispy edges, but was nice and soft in the middle. Extremely delicious with the potato filling in the middle. Vegetarian String Hopper - I had never heard of this dish until I visited this restaurant. It came with the same sambal and curries as the Masala Dosa, but with the addition of pickled vegetables. The string hopper itself tasted like a generic Chinese noodle except in a more pinkish color. I wouldn't order this over the dosa, but it was interesting to try something new. Chicken Curry - This curry was extremely spicy. I only had a bite, but couldn't eat anymore without rice. The taste was great though. Vegetarian Curry - If you are vegetarian then go for the Masala Dosa instead of this. It came with the same curries, lentils, and sambal the dosa already had. The vegetables taste slightly pickled. Overall, the dish was a bit more boring and lackluster compared to the rest of the stuff we ordered. The food here is much spicier than your typical North Indian food. The dosas take some time to make since each one is made fresh, but it's so worth the wait. The owner is also very pleasant and so nicely asked us to review them on Facebook if we liked the place. Strangely, most of the people here were not Indian. There were several large European (not just Norwegian) groups and one American group. You could tell which group was European and which was American not just by the accents, but also by how obnoxiously loud and annoying the American group was. All the non-Indian groups ordered the dosas, but I did see a table of two Indian locals both order biryani. That must mean their biryani is really good. I wish I lived here to be able to try it.

The cheapest curry in town is also the best in town. Go for the lamb byrani - only available on weekends.

    * Most authentic Indian food in Oslo * One of the cheapest places to get a curry * Best lamb curry in town * Only place that serves dosai My favourite restaurant in Oslo. I recommend the lamb biryani - only available on weekends.

Was craving some Indian food and Palmyra Cafe wad close to my Airbnb. Good selection of vegetarian/vegan options. I'm vegan and asked for no dairy... they put some with both my samosa and my entree. The samosa was still cold in the middle so I sent it back. The second one was WAY overcooked. The flavors were great however when all was said and done. And a great ginger beer!

I am not a huge fan of indian food. Even though one of my closest friends is Indian and she has dragged me to many a indian restaurants around the city, I still find it a little too exotic for my taste. However, I never hate what I get and this time was no different. This place has a very limited menu and they aren't the greatest of English or Norwegian speakers so you might want to come with someone who knows what most things are if you are hesitant on trying new things. We started off with samosas, which were great. They were very fresh, and hot. There were a lot potatoes inside with some awesome spicy tasting thing (I am well versed on Indian food). I got the biriyani with chicken curry. It normally comes with an egg on top, but eggs disgust me so I asked them to go ahead and keep it. It was quite tasty and had a lot of what tasted like safron, of which I am a huge fan of. There was also this pepper thing that was delicious. I tried eating everything with the naan, but it was too thick to really grab anything with so I ended up having to eat with utensils. There was also a pea mash thing that was yummy. So one samosa, an order of garlic naan, and biriyani all for kr 130 is what I would call cheap. I couldn't finish half of it because it was so much food. A couple of my friends got the masala dosai. Both really liked it, one of whom had a mother that used to make it for her when she was growing up, so if she liked it, you know it must be good. Another friend had the kottu rotti with lamb curry and really liked it. According to my friends, they should have brought yogurt with the food since it was a little spicy, but I wont dock them a star since I wouldnt have had the yogurt if it came with the food. What I will dock them a star for was the service. They seemed quite indifferent to us being there. It took awhile before anyone came out from the back to give us menus and it took awhile before they realized we were ready to order. However, they were quick with the food and great at making sure we had water. It's only been a couple of hours, but at this moment I would definitely return. However, we will just have to see what tomorrow brings or maybe tonight, if you know what I mean :)

They also brought out a starter and a side of roasted veggies on the house. Service: great service! They took our coats at the door, checked on us regularly, we're very kind, and even brought us those extra bites:) Ambiance: beautiful restaurant, looks like it's attached to a hotel. Definitely dressy-casual at least, it would be a great place for a work dinner or nice family gathering. Price: About $30 (300 NOK) per main course. Overall: absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend!

However, the restaurant does holds true to the grain free and gluten free concept of paleo. Food was very good. We were surprised that a complimentary starter of celery chips and prosciutto with wild mushroom mayo was served. Additionally - a side of beets was served for the entire table which was also part of the meal but not on the menu, so pleasant surprises. The food was delicious, everyone licked their bowl clean. The prices are to be expected in Oslo. I bought a bottle of wine, a starter, entre and dessert for $130 ( everything was for one person). Note - this is not a set menu but there are options for that. There is also an English menu - forgot to take a picture of it. Service was great, our waitress continually checked in on us and even though it was closing time, she still asked if we wanted another bottle of wine. Due to the good experience with dinner, we decided to come back for the breakfast buffet which I highly recommend. The options were plentiful (eggs, reindeer, sausage, charcuterie, fruit, juices, breads -influding gluten free, you just have to ask for it, see pictures attached). It is $30 for one person for the buffet and it was worth it! I would come here all the time for breakfast. Note - you don't have to be staying at the hotel to do the breakfast.

The music blasts loud, people chatting even more loudly, and fingers get dirty dipping into red spicy stews. I wonder why I don't go here more often. As is traditional Eritrean/Ethiopian food, we get one large shared plate of sour pancakes called Injera, topped with little stews called tsebhi (or wot in Ethiopian). For the first visits, I would recommend the "combination" so you can sample different mixes of minced beef stew, vegetable, egg and chicken. You then rip apart the pancakes and use it gleefully to scoop up the meats. The sponge-like injera beautifully absorbs all the juices. It's actually very similar to Ethiopian cuisine, just with different names, and only the true aficionados (not me) could tell them apart. What I notice though is it is more sour and less earthy than any Ethiopian food I have ever had, and tasted of more use of tomatoes. This tiiny bit of over-tanginess - their injera is also very sour - probably keeps me from giving it a full-blown 5, otherwise, the spices are really spot on for my liking, and I always have a weakness for ethnic cuisine made from the heart :)

We shared their signature plate, the pork knuckle and it was delicious! I'm glad we shared it though cause it was a ton of food. The meat was tender and the skin was extra crispy. I actually wanted something 'lighter' but I asked for his recommendation, and of course he said the signature item that they are "famous" for. I also paired it with some whale, because I like eating protected and endangered species. The whale was the best part. Tastes like those cute little puffins, vaguely like a tender beef jerky. As for the caveman chunk of pork on a bone. Woof. I mean, it's good. The crackling is like pork rinds on steroids and the meat really did fall off the bone. The mustard sauce and the mashed potatoes were loaded with fat. However, the staff friendly and attentive. I love my meats, but this did not blow my mind. Would not go out of my way to come here, and I think the overall ratings are a bit generous.
