We stopped into Mr. India on a whim and were not entirely sure what to expect. The restaurant was filled with people, so we figured that it would have decent food but did not realise what a wonderful dining experience we were in for.
The inside of the restaurant is beautifully and modernly decorated, with lovely lanterns that cast ambient lighting on the warmly painted walls. The chairs, wall art, color scheme, and miscellaneous decor has been thoughtfully chosen with a careful and artistic eye down to the last detail, and the bar area is inviting but hip with blue LED strip lighting that adds a touch of the city to an otherwise warm and laid back atmosphere.
The menu is beautiful and extensive, and we loved reading about the origins of each ingredient and recipe. Each item on the menu has a short description of where in India the recipe originated from, which was fun to learn about. The food came out promptly and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. We ordered a vegetarian potato curry, a chicken kabob, garlic naan, and the mango mania dessert. We were blown away by the diverse and very authentic flavors in each dish, as well as the freshness of the ingredients. The spices used were obviously freshly ground, and the meats were of the highest quality (according to the menu, many were free range of wild game).
Do not expect the type of mild, fatty "Indian" fast food with bleached white rice popular after a night of drinking. This is gourmet, traditional Indian food made with care and the best ingredients. It will obviously (and fairly) cost more, if this is what you are expecting. I was shocked to see that Mr. India has received mediocre reviews on Yelp and can only assume that it is not the type of Indian food the other reviewers were used to. Restaurants like this are few and far between, but this restaurant is a true gem.
Finally, it should be noted that the service was excellent and prompt. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu and were careful to keep all of our needs met.
This is the best Indian restaurant of the (many) Indian restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I wish that we lived in Norway so that we could come back regularly! As is, we might just have to come back on our last day tomorrow for lunch! read more
