c'26 student here…read more Academics are questionable. Grade inflation is prominent everywhere, which is a good thing if you're into having high grades, but you aren't necessarily prepared for college with the course material. Teacher quality is typically on the lower side, though a few teachers do focus on teaching rigorously. Despite being an MIT EA admit, I question whether that's the school to commit to, given how little I've been prepared over my last 4 years. School events are hastily created and expensive, and there are very few organizations, even fewer with proper organization (which is just what happens when you put students in charge of something). The main issue is a lack of school pride, which leads to few organizations, as students typically do not participate in any. The general staff are kind, though. The office administration is helpful, and most teachers (evidently noted by grade inflation) genuinely want you to succeed. Most staff are approachable. Some teachers (most notably music) are pretty hostile, however, often trying to get the better of students or stir up issues. Fights are relatively common, and tension is heavy among students. Security does their job well, although some officers are questionable about their closeness to female students. closeness Our sports teams are fine. If you're interested in football, the football team here is decent for their division. If you're interested in performing arts, don't expect much--there's very low participation in musical arts, both choir and wind ensemble (which are very likely to fizzle out by the '28-'29 year completely). Dance and art are the only two relevant arts. However, they're still relatively underrepresented (~2 levels of classes for visual art [no pathway] and ~3 separate dance courses [2 levels and Dance Co.]). If you're interested in acting, tough luck. There are no drama courses. No relevant STEM pathways, aside from biology, especially for those interested in engineering or chemistry. School lunch has improved drastically in the last few years, though (it's free!). The campus is in pretty poor shape, with few renovations to buildings. The art/music building is deteriorating. Common issues (such as those related to the bathrooms) are still prevalent here, although they're present in most schools. Would give 1 star, but the staff are fairly friendly, and it's easy to be valedictorian if you put in even an ounce of effort (which is nice to flex, though it shows how little students here prioritize education, which further harms educational pathways). Do not recommend--Los Altos, Nogales, Rowland, and Glen A. Wilson are down the corner, and your child will be a lot happier there.

So many were obviously burnt out and just wanted a stable pay. You won't find, save 2-4 teachers per grade level, who actually will put in more work than just going through the motion. The administration is just another bureaucratic jumping point for a better gig down the future. They don't really care. I think I interacted with the principal once and she immediately acted like a pompous fuck. They also try to frame the school in the most positive light, such as being the only school in the district to improve by 15 points on some standardized BS test, when if any of the students had a brain, they can easily check that those gains still amount to last place. As for the students. Worst pile of cesspool trash of them all. Most are thieves and wanna-bee thugs. Most are still living with their parents at 24-28 and can barely afford a car if at all. This was predictable from their shitty work ethic, low IQ, yet somehow pretentious notions of themselves when attending at this place. It's a cancer that will swallow your kids up.

She is good at maintaining discipline without being the least bit mean. Both parents and students love her. It was a beautiful year as I got to help once per week in the classroom (while on maternity leave because of his brother) and chaperone most of the field trips. Mrs. Aguirre is a very well-rounded person. She is empathetic and no pushover. She and my son's 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Gomez, are the best of the best. 2nd grade was during the lockdown and she did a fantastic job. She handled an insufferable year with such grace. I am so glad my son had her. That year was hard enough for everyone. It would have been so much worse with a different teacher. I am so grateful that they and Ms. Lao, my younger son's TK teacher, are at Edgewood Academy. I also absolutely loved Ms. Lentz. She was the principal when my older son started attending the school and stayed through the 2020-2021 school year. She prioritized students and parents. It was so apparent that staff and faculty loved her, too. For the 2021-2022 school year, we had Dr. Hernandez and she very evidently gave her all to the job as well. I was able to volunteer a lot when she was around, too. My rating is currently only three stars because the current principal who took over at the start of the 2022-2023 school year has been a huge disappointment. He is very dismissive of parents. He ignores electronic messages and, in person, he gives empty promises. I fear that if my children are ever bullied, he will do nothing. I have yet to hear anyone say anything positive about him aside from one formal thanks from the PTA that felt forced.

There is one teacher who really appears to bond just a little better than the other. Not sure what his name is but as the kids where walking up to get their promotional certificates for graduation yesterday 6/4/25 he did special gestures with each and everyone of his students which was a treat to watch. Thank you to that awesome teacher! My biggest complaint was that the promotion was exceptionally long! I attended a college graduation and a HS graduation both within these last 3 weeks and this 8 grade promotion by far was the longest! Maybe if the principal hadn't gone on and on and talked so much it would have made it much shorter and more enjoyable. The video at the end was absolutely great and as each one signed off made it even more special. This is the second promotion I have attended for this school. Maybe next year make it more about the kids and not the principal and shorten it. Congratulations to class of 2025! Go little sharks and become big sharks!

This school has a running track, stretching areas, tennis courts, handball courts, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields that are open to the public depending on whether it is being used by the school itself or any other local community organization. The aesthetics doesn't compare to Sierra Vista High School's more recently renovated track, but it gets the job done if you're looking for a place to walk/jog. You can also run the sidewalk circumference of the school which happens to be the conveniently measured distance of 1 mile which can be used whether school is in session or not.
