My experience with the administration's handling of bullying was deeply disappointing. This school…read morealso lacks diversity and falls short of creating an environment where all students feel safe. During the first week of my son's 2nd grade (SY 2025-26), school opened without a permanent class teacher for them. Different substitute teachers came in each day that week. This was my son's second year at Ben Lomond and during that first week he was repeatedly bullied by a boy who sat near him. This boy would hit my son on the head with a pencil and other objects. I never received a report about this. Later that week in the cafeteria, the same boy told my son and his friend that if they didn't bow to him, he would slap them. My son refused and the boy slapped him across the face in front of several children. Unfortunately, no school staff witnessed the incident. My son was scared that he confided in his older sister instead of me. After learning what happened, I immediately reported the incident to the principal, Mrs. P****, via email so there would be a documented record of both the incident and the school's response. I also provided names of student witnesses. She called the following morning and said she would investigate. Later, my son told me the principal came into the classroom and personally witnessed the same student hitting him on the head with a pencil. Despite seeing this behavior firsthand, the only action taken was moving the student to a seat closer to the teacher. After that, I never received a follow-up phone call or email, NO explanation of the investigation's findings or a plan to ensure my son's safety. I had hoped the boys would at least be placed in separate classrooms, but they remained classmates for the rest of 2nd grade and were even assigned to the same class again in 3rd grade. Later that year, the same boy brought a toy gun to school and told classmates, including my son, that it was a real gun. Although it turned out to be a toy, the incident deeply frightened some students. Only after that was he removed from the school. As a parent, I expected clear communication, and a concrete plan to protect my child after reporting about a bullying. Instead, I was left to rely on my son's account with little to no communication from the school. I ultimately withdrew my son midway through 3rd grade, and it was one of the best decisions I made for his well-being. No parent should have to wonder whether their child is truly safe at school.

The teachers truly care about their students and go the extra mile to provide a safe, encouraging, and structured environment. The smaller class sizes make it easier for kids to get individual attention, and the staff communicates well with parents so you always feel included in your child's progress. What I appreciate most is the balance Sonrise offers -- strong academics paired with a faith-based foundation and values that carry over into everyday life. It's not just about getting good grades; kids also learn character, responsibility, and respect for others. If you're looking for a school that supports both education and personal growth, Sonrise is an excellent choice.

I have the privilege of presenting at Career day every year at this school. It is remarkable that…read morethey have such a well organized and wonderful career day for their student students. I certainly didn't have one like this when I was in middle school. I hope it inspires 6th through 8th graders to dream big and start thinking about what they are passionate about and start working hard towards those possible futures. Sierra Vista has two leadership tracks for students who are interested: one is ASB which is mostly in charge of rallies and school functions and the other is WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) which is designed to have 7th and 8th graders orient and welcome new students including 6ty graders. Both sets of leadership students had important roles on today's career day. The WEB students designed all the Peanuts and Snoopy themed decorations of the event and gave a speech to welcome the presenters to Career Day. The ASB students guided the presenters to the Professional Development room next to the school library as well as to their respective classrooms. These leadership students were very polite, respectful, and did an excellent job representing their school and making the presenters such as myself feel welcome and glad to participate. Well done, Sierra Vista, to the whole team that made today happen! Thank you to the guidance counselors for overseeing and planning the day and to the PTA for providing the breakfast and lunch!! I look forward to next year!

Guys, these are all outdated. Just look at them, we're almost in 2026. Anyway, this school is nice…read more Not as bad now as it was back then. Honestly, I don't know. I wasn't enrolled here back then. This school is pretty nice. They've got a great band program and a nice principal. There are many events for students, lots of electives to choose from, and sometimes they have field trips. Most of the teachers I have are extremely nice (honors), but many of my friends aren't in honors, and they say their teachers are really mean. School's easy and it's going pretty well. One bad thing is that the classrooms aren't in the correct order--like classroom 26 is next to the field, and class 27 is on the other side of the school. This makes going to classes annoying because they're far away. Lunch is awesome, though. No phones on campus, it isn't strict, but the school lowkey looks broke. (It isn't, school just looks ugly.) And don't worry, no bullying anymore. People are pretty nice... until you see the pick me's and the edgars that sag and think their tuff. Everything else is fine.

The good, the bad, and the ugly:…read more The good: The community. The teachers, parents, and students all seem to be insync with providing a good environment for the children. There is a fundraiser every month to improve the quality and materials in the school. API is in the high 800 and more near 900 which is outstanding for a Covina elementary school. It truly is the best of Covina's schools. The bad: Class size is large, students do not get a lot of personal attention. However, they are a public school and the best so its understandable. Teachers are good, but you find a few here and there that you just don't like. The Ugly: The school could use a make-over and a little new paint. The people in the office are usually not the friendliest. They tend to forget that they are providing a service. The district itself is not good at keeping records. Whenever we get our transferred renewed I have to literally stay on top of the process the whole time because our paperwork got lost twice in the past two years. I believe the district has had the same people working these offices for years. They really need to do an assessment and hire some fresh blood that are hungry for work and experience with better people skills.
