It's such a friendly environment here and it truly feels like a family here. The office Manager Edie, is so friendly and informative and is always so helpful. I'm sad I didn't know about this school sooner to have started my daughter here in TK. I did for my middle son and he is now here too, in TK. There are service hours and fundraising required, like all private, Catholic schools. The best part about this school is that the fundraising is "per family." For example, the fundraising at St. Chris doesn't change in amount if you have one child or three. It's also less than some surrounding schools. Other surrounding schools I checked prior to choosing St. Christopher have their set amount "per child." Most were $1,000 so if you have three kids, you have to fundraise $3,000 per school year. At St. Chris, the fundraising is $700 and whether you have one child, two, or more...it stays the same. The service hours are 40 per school year and there are so many opportunities to get them done, or you can pay them up front if you do not have time for this. If you're from a single parent home the hours are less than 40. The school has morning and after school program for those parents that work early or late. They offer a per session or a monthly option. They have a carline for parents who find it convenient to drop off their kids, or you have the option to also walk them to class. The afternoon pickup is carline where the kids hop into the car and the little ones, TK and kinder get picked up at the gate. They have events like father daughter dance, field trips, family picnics, jog a thon, family bbq, movie night, Halloween haunted house, Halloween trunk or treat, fiesta, Christmas performances with dinner, and other awesome get togethers that make the school even closer. The TK and kinder class have "buddies" from 7th and 8th grade which they love. They sit with them during mass on Wednesdays and they also do little gift exchanges during Christmas and form great relationships with the bigger kids. They have music class with Mr. George who the kids absolutely love! He is also so good with the kids and teaches them all the great songs for their performances. He runs the choir so your child will get to know him if they're in choir. Recently there was a change and two grades got integrated into one class. It was a bit scary to think of this but like many schools that have thrived doing this, the kids here are thriving and because of smaller class sizes the kids are doing great! Many parents were worried and left, and that's understandable. For us that stayed, we are realizing that it has no negative effect on their school performance and in fact, there is more time available for extra instruction. Our principal also formed a marketing committee group with the parents to help us brainstorm ideas on how to help the school. She has been open to our ideas and has made some positive changes. The integration of two grades in a class has also made my children get closer with the next class up. The school feels closer than ever as we are helping in every way to keep it going as it has a rich history here in the city of West Covina. I love this school! Once a charger, always a charger! I think it says a lot when they can take suggestions and implement rather quickly. Also Miss Lizzy whom was at Little Seed is now here at KSA. She is really attentive and very thorough with school. If on a field trip-Miss Lizzy is active and always with the children watching their every step. If at school, Miss Lizzy is thorough with her teachings and makes sure you know the areas where a student might need additional help. She's really quite great at what she does. My daughter has been harassed multiple times by the dean and they have consistently made her feel shameful of her body, even though she is a star athlete that represents the school and has helped them win multiple times. I was originally told by one of their big alumni that they do not like children of color. As a mom with a black daughter, I did not believe it originally however, after my daughter now being at the school for two years, I realize she has been treated differently and she has been harassed because of the way she looks from teachers and the deans. They do not work with you, the school counselors don't get the schedules right, they don't return phone calls, they don't ensure your child is getting the right classes. It's almost like they don't even do work at this school, several are the teachers are extremely underqualified and they're just somebody's friend and they do not care what happens to your child. If your child forgets a lunch, they do not even allow you to leave the child's lunch. You are forced to buy a lunch from them. It just seems like all they care about is payments. The Catholic Church needs to stop funding them. This school is nothing but about taking your money and not doing right by your kids. They are not treating black kids right and they barely treat everybody else decent. I am so sorry that I even had my daughter come here. Now we are stuck here or she goes to multiple high schools, which is something I never wanted to do. Hopefully I can save another parent from this heartbreaking experience that I have been going through with this school. I am incredibly disappointed in the administration, the school and the Catholic practices that they instill. My experience with the administration's handling of bullying was deeply disappointing. This school…read morealso lacks diversity and falls short of creating an environment where all students feel safe. During the first week of my son's 2nd grade (SY 2025-26), school opened without a permanent class teacher for them. Different substitute teachers came in each day that week. This was my son's second year at Ben Lomond and during that first week he was repeatedly bullied by a boy who sat near him. This boy would hit my son on the head with a pencil and other objects. I never received a report about this. Later that week in the cafeteria, the same boy told my son and his friend that if they didn't bow to him, he would slap them. My son refused and the boy slapped him across the face in front of several children. Unfortunately, no school staff witnessed the incident. My son was scared that he confided in his older sister instead of me. After learning what happened, I immediately reported the incident to the principal, Mrs. P****, via email so there would be a documented record of both the incident and the school's response. I also provided names of student witnesses. She called the following morning and said she would investigate. Later, my son told me the principal came into the classroom and personally witnessed the same student hitting him on the head with a pencil. Despite seeing this behavior firsthand, the only action taken was moving the student to a seat closer to the teacher. After that, I never received a follow-up phone call or email, NO explanation of the investigation's findings or a plan to ensure my son's safety. I had hoped the boys would at least be placed in separate classrooms, but they remained classmates for the rest of 2nd grade and were even assigned to the same class again in 3rd grade. Later that year, the same boy brought a toy gun to school and told classmates, including my son, that it was a real gun. Although it turned out to be a toy, the incident deeply frightened some students. Only after that was he removed from the school. As a parent, I expected clear communication, and a concrete plan to protect my child after reporting about a bullying. Instead, I was left to rely on my son's account with little to no communication from the school. I ultimately withdrew my son midway through 3rd grade, and it was one of the best decisions I made for his well-being. No parent should have to wonder whether their child is truly safe at school.
