But she was begging me to start going somewhere regularly to see friends. She's incredibly social and was craving that connection. I searched everywhere for a preschool that aligned with our values: * Christ-centered * Clean * Beautiful campus * Loving, small environment I wanted to feel as safe and settled as possible, knowing my child would be in caring hands. That's when I found Discovery Christian Preschool (DCP). They checked every single box at first glance. We've been part of the DCP family for about six months now, and unfortunately, we're having to leave only because of the distance. When I first signed my daughter up, I was freshly postpartum and didn't fully realize just how far the drive would be from our home in DTLA (yes, an hour each way!). But even so, we kept her enrolled because we loved the school so much. During her time here, my daughter enjoyed plenty of playtime with friends, great outdoor time, the most creative crafts, and a nurturing environment that made her excited to return every day. She would end the day saying, "I want to go back to school!" She absolutely thrived. This summer, DCP went above and beyond with an amazing summer program -- water days, snowcones, and a fun spirit week where she got to dress up in the best themed outfits. DCP has been such a God-given gift to our family. Miss Yolanda is a bright light -- the most caring director, who truly loves these children as if they were her own. Her passion for early education and her heart for kids are unmatched. And her teachers (shoutout to Miss Jean!) are so so attentive and amazing with all of the children. I'm heartbroken to leave due to the commute, but so grateful for these past six months. DCP is truly one-of-a-kind, and we will miss it deeply.

It's such a friendly environment here and it truly feels like a family here. The office Manager Edie, is so friendly and informative and is always so helpful. I'm sad I didn't know about this school sooner to have started my daughter here in TK. I did for my middle son and he is now here too, in TK. There are service hours and fundraising required, like all private, Catholic schools. The best part about this school is that the fundraising is "per family." For example, the fundraising at St. Chris doesn't change in amount if you have one child or three. It's also less than some surrounding schools. Other surrounding schools I checked prior to choosing St. Christopher have their set amount "per child." Most were $1,000 so if you have three kids, you have to fundraise $3,000 per school year. At St. Chris, the fundraising is $700 and whether you have one child, two, or more...it stays the same. The service hours are 40 per school year and there are so many opportunities to get them done, or you can pay them up front if you do not have time for this. If you're from a single parent home the hours are less than 40. The school has morning and after school program for those parents that work early or late. They offer a per session or a monthly option. They have a carline for parents who find it convenient to drop off their kids, or you have the option to also walk them to class. The afternoon pickup is carline where the kids hop into the car and the little ones, TK and kinder get picked up at the gate. They have events like father daughter dance, field trips, family picnics, jog a thon, family bbq, movie night, Halloween haunted house, Halloween trunk or treat, fiesta, Christmas performances with dinner, and other awesome get togethers that make the school even closer. The TK and kinder class have "buddies" from 7th and 8th grade which they love. They sit with them during mass on Wednesdays and they also do little gift exchanges during Christmas and form great relationships with the bigger kids. They have music class with Mr. George who the kids absolutely love! He is also so good with the kids and teaches them all the great songs for their performances. He runs the choir so your child will get to know him if they're in choir. Recently there was a change and two grades got integrated into one class. It was a bit scary to think of this but like many schools that have thrived doing this, the kids here are thriving and because of smaller class sizes the kids are doing great! Many parents were worried and left, and that's understandable. For us that stayed, we are realizing that it has no negative effect on their school performance and in fact, there is more time available for extra instruction. Our principal also formed a marketing committee group with the parents to help us brainstorm ideas on how to help the school. She has been open to our ideas and has made some positive changes. The integration of two grades in a class has also made my children get closer with the next class up. The school feels closer than ever as we are helping in every way to keep it going as it has a rich history here in the city of West Covina. I love this school! Once a charger, always a charger! If on a field trip-Miss Lizzy is active and always with the children watching their every step. If at school, Miss Lizzy is thorough with her teachings and makes sure you know the areas where a student might need additional help. She's really quite great at what she does.
