West Covina High School

If you're looking for a spirited and leadership orientated school, you should definitely choose…read morethis school for your kids. I graduated from West Covina high school, Class of 2018! Go BULLDOGS! Throughout my four years in this high school, I was involved in several leadership organizations: Key Club, Class Council, ASB, Link Crew, and Robotics. This school offers a huge variety of clubs on campus for students. They also have performing arts (All male and All Female: The Lab, Dance Drill, Colorguard, Band, Choir, Drumline), athlete teams (soccer, basketball, cheer, wrestling, swimming, water polo, etc.), community service clubs (Key Club, Red Cross, Interact, Unicef, LEO's, etc.), California Scholarship Federation (CSF, NEHS, NHS, Science Olympiad), STEM club (Robotics: Team 968 RAWC) and many more to choose from. I really enjoyed being a part of the clubs because it made me grow as a person and it helped me meet some of my best friends. Although I enjoyed doing leadership activities, I also enjoyed learning at this campus. The teachers here are inspirational and always willing to make sure that students understand what they are learning. However, I still rate the teachers as average. There were only a couple that I truly admired and loved having as a teacher for a specific class.

I am very disappointed with the Pre-K Program headed by Martha Macias…read more I am giving a warning to the parents that are looking to enroll their toddlers into the Pre-K program. Do your research and refer to the parents' experience before doing so. The way Macias is running the Pre-K program may affect your kids negatively. Don't do it unless the school decides to change its Pre-School Director. My kid was doing really great with Mrs. Lisa (Monalisa Cabrera). If there's someone good that remains in the Pre-K program, that's Mrs. Lisa. My wife and I have nothing but praises towards Mrs. Lisa. She's done a tremendous job taking care of our son and other kids as well. Few months after my kid transitioned to Ms. Thompson alongside Mrs. Macias. My kid developed an aggressive behavior something that we've never seen him had before. On March 4, 2026, Mrs. Macias informed us at "the classroom entrance" that our son was no longer allowed to attend the school due to behavioral concerns. The conversation with my wife was conducted "outside of her office, in front of other parents, kids and staff. "VERY UNPROFESSIONAL" and she's considered as the Pre-K Director. This is very concerning and scary at the same time. We feel it would have been more appropriate to discuss this privately rather than at the classroom where others could overhear. I guess our privacy and confidentiality is not of her concern. My wife had only just entered the classroom when she began speaking, and even my mother-in law, who was there to pick up my son, was standing outside. The conversation was very one-sided, and we weren't given an opportunity to share our perspective. We were simply told that "your son can no longer come here." Straight up rejection from Mrs. Macias. It was upsetting to see our young son face the reality of being rejected and asked to leave a place where he was beginning to build relationships with classmates and teachers. We believe this was a difficult situation for him to understand at such a tender age. As a 20 year Airforce and Navy veteran, if I deploy, I want nothing but the security and safety of the love ones I leave behind while fighting for this country. It's very disappointing that a supposedly "Christian" school that should provide security and peace of mind when I leave my kid in their custody wasn't able to accomplish such an important task. After this experience, I will never ever be at peace leaving my kid on any school regardless of whether it's a Christian school or not. I have a lot of colleagues - Military and Christians - and I am not advising them to enroll their kids into South Hills' Pre-K program under Mrs. Macias. As of this moment, until changes are done with the Pre-K Program, enrolling your kid is not recommendable.

This review is for the Pre-K program, and I would strongly warn any parent considering this school…read moreto look elsewhere. My son started in July 2025, and at first, everything seemed fine. The previous Pre-K principal, Mrs. Ana, along with Mrs. Lisa and Ms. Brittany, were supportive and caring. Once Mrs. Macias took over in September, the entire environment changed--and not for the better. From that point on, parent concerns were dismissed, minimized, or completely ignored. It became very clear that administration would back staff no matter what, instead of addressing legitimate issues being raised. My son was in the Rainbow Room (2-3-year-olds), where a teacher, Karina Vasquez, was brought in. Almost immediately, I saw a negative shift in my son's behavior. He would come home saying, "She yells at me." No parent should ever hear that about someone entrusted with their toddler. In my experience, there was a serious lack of patience and an inability to appropriately handle very young children. What is even more alarming is that after my son left SHA and began attending Walnut Montessori, there was communication about him between Karina Vasquez. She used to work at Walnut and was talking to staff at Walnut about my son and saying very negative things. That is deeply concerning and raises major questions about professionalism and confidentiality. When this was brought up, the responses from administration were inconsistent and dismissive. Instead of accountability, there were excuses. The way discipline was handled was completely unacceptable. There was an attempt to suspend my 3-year-old child for over a week. A preschooler. Rather than working toward solutions or support, it felt like certain staff members were pushing to remove him altogether. There are also serious concerns about transparency. I was informed that classroom cameras either do not work or are not being used. For a school responsible for very young children, that is unacceptable. The overall culture felt toxic--favoritism, gossip, and protecting staff seemed to take priority over the well-being of the children. As a parent, I felt unheard, unsupported, and ultimately forced to remove my child for his own well-being. Do not be misled by appearances. Based on my experience, this is not a safe, supportive, or trustworthy environment for young children. Mrs. Macias is a horrible principal and Karina Vasquez yells at the kids and hates children. Parents if you feel this way as well and have children attending the pre-k side, report everything to the state licensing department.

I have the privilege of presenting at Career day every year at this school. It is remarkable that…read morethey have such a well organized and wonderful career day for their student students. I certainly didn't have one like this when I was in middle school. I hope it inspires 6th through 8th graders to dream big and start thinking about what they are passionate about and start working hard towards those possible futures. Sierra Vista has two leadership tracks for students who are interested: one is ASB which is mostly in charge of rallies and school functions and the other is WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) which is designed to have 7th and 8th graders orient and welcome new students including 6ty graders. Both sets of leadership students had important roles on today's career day. The WEB students designed all the Peanuts and Snoopy themed decorations of the event and gave a speech to welcome the presenters to Career Day. The ASB students guided the presenters to the Professional Development room next to the school library as well as to their respective classrooms. These leadership students were very polite, respectful, and did an excellent job representing their school and making the presenters such as myself feel welcome and glad to participate. Well done, Sierra Vista, to the whole team that made today happen! Thank you to the guidance counselors for overseeing and planning the day and to the PTA for providing the breakfast and lunch!! I look forward to next year!

I wasn't enrolled here back then. This school is pretty nice. They've got a great band program and a nice principal. There are many events for students, lots of electives to choose from, and sometimes they have field trips. Most of the teachers I have are extremely nice (honors), but many of my friends aren't in honors, and they say their teachers are really mean. School's easy and it's going pretty well. One bad thing is that the classrooms aren't in the correct order--like classroom 26 is next to the field, and class 27 is on the other side of the school. This makes going to classes annoying because they're far away. Lunch is awesome, though. No phones on campus, it isn't strict, but the school lowkey looks broke. (It isn't, school just looks ugly.) And don't worry, no bullying anymore. People are pretty nice... until you see the pick me's and the edgars that sag and think their tuff. Everything else is fine.

She got suspended for defending herself. There is a video of her getting first and no one broke up the fight. Even when she tried to end the fight the other girl CONTINUED to hit her. After all this they continued to bully her online about the fight. No one is taking this seriously. This is why many kids commit suicide because there's only so much a little girl can take. This school has a running track, stretching areas, tennis courts, handball courts, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields that are open to the public depending on whether it is being used by the school itself or any other local community organization. Yup, there a couple of porta-potties here too. It's a dirt track, so use some running shoes that you wouldn't mind getting dirty. The aesthetics doesn't compare to Sierra Vista High School's more recently renovated track, but it gets the job done if you're looking for a place to walk/jog. You can also run the sidewalk circumference of the school which happens to be the conveniently measured distance of 1 mile which can be used whether school is in session or not. Here's a quick 3D video look of it. http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/30591254#video Pickup basketball seems to happen on nights/weekends whenever the kids bball leagues aren't going on. This is a nice free community area to get out and be active.
