As my first school year at south hills academy nears its end... I can say I am impressed at the…read moreeducation my 4 year old kindergartener received in her first year of school. I will say I have had my complaints about and with the school, but now with "head of school" gone I feel comfortable sending my child back next year. The previous "head of school" (Mr. Emmanuel Lacoste) seemed like a dictator and I was unsure about sending my daughter there next year. However, he recently abruptly resigned and I have noticed the administration moving towards positive change. The majority of the staff are very nice and always saying hello. I have had my complaints with the school regarding communication which have been addressed appropriately. The school now has provided better communication and they seem more willing to hear concerns. Previously I emailed the head of school and never received a response. I called many times and spoke to the head of school one time and asked to meet with him. He assured me I could walk into his office anytime. The next day I went to try to meet with him, and he was unable to meet with me. I believe the school is headed in a positive direction and I plan to send both of my daughters there in the future. To those reading these reviews... there are evident fake reviews by people who find it necessary to make fake accounts and try to hide behind a negative review. I'd urge you to ask a parent about their experience rather than just read a review from someone who may be a previous parent or ex employee.

First time enrolling both of my kids for summer school. This week is their third week. Everything…read moredone through google form. I attempted to contact them multiple times through phone calls/ emails, with no answers/ replied. If I showed up in person, sometimes someone buzzed me in to the office, sometimes no one in the office and I had to try another time. Good thing my kids already older and they can communicate things with me. But I will not consider this school for regular attendance based on gap of communication among staff, educators and parents. It feels that parents concerns are not appreciated. The issue that I had was class changes, updating pick up person form. Had to do it multiple times and still not updated. So if you enroll your kids in summer school, pick your classes wisely. My daughter accidentally picked 3 science classes back to back and the school did not make any attempt to help us to change it until the next two days. One of this science class, my daughter was the only student there. For third week of summer school, my daughter chose spanish class as her last class of the day, and she was enrolled to something else. ---update 7/22/26 in response to South Hills Business Manager--- Thank you for your response. I appreciate your feedback. However, I would like to understand how South Hills Academy ensures that parents are able to effectively communicate their concerns with the Summer School division when emails go unanswered, phone calls are not returned, and, upon visiting the front office in person, I was instructed to "just email the director." I followed the process your staff directed me to follow by emailing the director, yet I did not receive any response or acknowledgment from South Hills Academy. As a parent, this leaves me without a clear avenue to address legitimate concerns. I would appreciate your clarification on how parents are expected to communicate when the established channels are unresponsive. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

In terms of academics, EHS is unparalleled by West Covina, South Hills, Sierra Vista, etc. It is true that our various sports programs are lacking; we still don't have a football team, for example. Our Softball Teams and Swim teams are decent enough though. The IB program, which means International Baccalaureate, is a rigorous program that is above even what AP has, because these are internationally held standards. Getting a full diploma is challenging, but the rewards are immense. The students here are just nice people. Edgewood had a grand total of one fight in the past year, and even that fight was a minor scuffle compared to what West Covina has. There aren't any major cliques, and all students get along with each other. There are different kinds of people who hang out with each other of course, but it isn't as set in stone and there isn't any bad blood between people. Come and see for yourself.

Came pretty last minute and was surprised that parking wasn't that hard to find. We found a spot a few blocks down and although we didn't sit in the school itself since it was already crowded and i believed they were charging to get it........ but don't cry for us kids cuz my boyfriend and found a sweet spot right across the street over by the gas station on the grassy knoll! Just about ready for the show when the water sprinklers came on and there was a mad dash of everyone running! Lol luckily we didn't get wet and after everyone had a good laugh we all enjoyed the rest of the show which was spectacular! Great fireworks and the police had everything under control, as far as i know there went any problems! I think imma be coming back next year!

My experience at this school has been honestly frustrating and disappointing. The environment feels…read moremore stressful than supportive, and it often seems like students are expected to just deal with problems instead of actually getting help. One of the biggest issues is how disorganized everything is. Important information is either given last minute or not clearly explained at all, which makes it harder to stay on top of assignments and expectations. It feels like students are blamed for things that aren't fully communicated in the first place. The teaching quality is also really inconsistent. Some teachers care and try, but others seem uninterested or don't explain things well, leaving students confused and stuck teaching themselves. When you ask for help, it can feel like you're just brushed off instead of actually supported. The rules can also feel unfair or overly strict, especially when they're enforced differently depending on the student. It creates a sense that things aren't equal, which makes it harder to feel respected or motivated. Overall, this school doesn't feel like a place that prioritizes student success or well-being. Instead of helping students grow, it often just adds stress and frustration to an already difficult experience.

There is one teacher who really appears to bond just a little better than the other. Not sure what his name is but as the kids where walking up to get their promotional certificates for graduation yesterday 6/4/25 he did special gestures with each and everyone of his students which was a treat to watch. Thank you to that awesome teacher! My biggest complaint was that the promotion was exceptionally long! I attended a college graduation and a HS graduation both within these last 3 weeks and this 8 grade promotion by far was the longest! Maybe if the principal hadn't gone on and on and talked so much it would have made it much shorter and more enjoyable. The video at the end was absolutely great and as each one signed off made it even more special. This is the second promotion I have attended for this school. Maybe next year make it more about the kids and not the principal and shorten it. Congratulations to class of 2025! Go little sharks and become big sharks!

Rebecca Unver is the worst teacher , she is rude , horrible to the kids , and an unhappy miserable person: you can tell by how she speaks.
