After a day of self-care and grading papers at the park (teacher life) I remembered Michoacána and moseyed on down to grab a refreshing treat. I came here once before, but on that particular day the line was nearly out the door so I made a beeline and decided to shoot my shot on a day with less patrons. Pandemic fatigue is real, but I still have boundaries. When I walked in there were so many options and I was happy to also see that it was nice and clean. When ordering, I played it safe and went with something familiar (the mangonada). They had 2 versions: Frozen (called "Mangonada") for $3.50 or slush (called "Chamuco") for $5.75. The one I wanted of course was pricier ‍. Both cash and card are accepted. The sell ice cream, candy, chips, nachos, chicharrones...basically Mexican snacks. If you like spice, sweet or sour/tangy. You'll find an enjoyable treat here. The attendant was bilingual (so no fears for purely English speakers), but I enjoy practicing my Spanish when I can and it was appreciated. The door has signage that says masks are required, but there was one gentleman (customer) not wearing one, and they didn't seem to have an issue with it. Soooo...yea. ‍ I'll be back since it's so close to home (literally and figuratively). It was the perfect addition to a beautiful Texas Spring day! Reminds me of my SoCal days. read more

If you like freshly made fruit based ice-creams and other frozen sweet treats then you will love this place in Grapevine. Our server told us that they make ice-creams fresh in the back and you can definitely feel that in those flavors. Pistachio flavor is a family favorite for us in ice-creams and we are partial to Chamuco Mangonada (mango based sorbet, mixed with tamarind flavor/seeds and topped with fresh mango slices - yum!). For Southlake residents, this may be just a little bit more hike than going to good old frozen yogurt or regular ice cream places in Town Square - but the colorful fresh flavors are totally worth the visit. read more

Paleteria Michoacana is a must try if looking for legit Mexican treats! They have elote in a cup, which is DELICIOUS!! The corn tasted fresh, & I really appreciated my cup being topped off instead of just being half way filled. Their paletas are great too! I also tried the "cochinada" which has queso, corn, Chile & jalapeños in a bag of chips. It was very good, I would definitely recommend sharing that. Excellent, small ice cream shop off the beaten path in Grapevine. It's just down the street from the GCISD stadium and the ice cream is SO good. The folks that work the store are so patient at explaining the flavors and will happily scoop up tastes of all of the ice creams. For all of y'all that haven't tried it, I highly recommend the pine nut ice cream (sounds weird, but trust me, it's the perfect mix of creamy and refreshing). I just visited Paletería Michoacana for the first time yesterday, and I'll definitely be back. They're being careful during the pandemic, requiring masks and limiting the store's capacity to 10 people, including staff. The shop was busy when I arrived, so I couldn't go inside, which made it a little harder to choose what to order. In ordinary days, I would have peered into the glass freezer cases or stared at the wall menu, but that was hard to do while I waited outside for the crowd to clear slightly. In the end, I dashed inside, where a very sweet man asked me what I wanted. I knew I wanted a paleta, so I took a minute to look into the case and ordered pistachio for myself and strawberries with cream for my husband. The order was $3.50 total - so affordable - but I remembered that a lot of small business won't take credit cards, especially for small purchases. The employee confirmed my suspicion, so I dug out some cash and picked up my paletas. My husband and I were both delighted. The pistachio was a creamy based with many small pistachio pieces, and the strawberry had whole chunks of strawberries frozen in the cream base. We devoured them quickly during our walk home, trying to catch all the drips so they didn't go to waste. I'm already trying to figure out when I can go back to try more flavors, like the mangonada and pine nut. read more

We wanted gelato but this random find was a good one. Interesting flavors they have to offer... We tried queso which sounds gross but was really creamy with a hint of coconut. I had a La Original Michoacana strawberry ice flavor! This is perfect if you want to avoid dairy! read more

I had come here a long time back because I like the Mexican version of gelato, and randomly suggested this place to a co-worker during lunch so we both decided to go to get some fresas con crema (strawberries and cream for those of us who don't know Spanish like myself). It was rich, but not too heavy at the same time. This place has a variety of Mexican treats, and at real reasonable prices too. We found this place one Saturday, thanks to Yelp. We were not at all familiar with a Mexican sweets shop, but the very friendly owner made us feel at home. He said they make all their own ice cream and it has less air in it than other ice cream. He said he had to move his shop from the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff due to the fact that his landlord jacked up the rent so much. What a loss to Bishop Arts - but our gain!! I had the rum raisin ice cream and my wife had strawberry. Both were fantastic!! We will return again soon to try some of the other yummy looking selections. We sat at a table for about 20 minutes and chatted with the owner, who was busy behind the counter. You are really missing out if you don't try this shop! read more

This place is awesome! ok so they are super new and do not have a sign yet but the windows have l.e.d. lights and a sign that says "now open" I was craving a Mangonada and there is no place in the grapevine/southlake area that has any mexican snack places. They have home made ice creams, agua frescas, paletas, fruit and snacks. I was so excited! finally i can get my fruit with lime and chile close to home! you can get a container full of fruit of your choice, the paletas are made with fresh ingredients. I chose to get their "Chamuko" which is a mangonada but instead of frozen mango, its a mango puree. It still has chile too. SO GOOD. They have chicharones too. We found this place by accident after eating tacos next door at Tacqueria Campeone. As this place specializes in Mexican sweets we weren't too sure what to order, but the owner was incredibly helpful and friendly. He wanted to let us try every single flavor. We tried Nanches, which is pretty unusual. He said most either love it or hate it as it has a pretty unique flavor. He said even a lot of Mexicans are not familiar with it as it only grows in the tropics. I liked it but i could see how it may be an acquired taste. On wiki it says Nanches doesnt taste like any other fruit. It is sold on the side of the road, topped with lime and chili sauce. We ultimately chose the pine nut ice cream, which was unbelievably good. Some of the best ice cream i have ever had. Last, the owner was super friendly. His extended family has been in the ice cream business for years, starting a long time ago in Mexico. Highly recommend this place. Awesome! read more

Went after trip to grapevine for lunch and after reading the reviews. All the reviews were excellent 5 stars and they were right on. Homemade ice cream and super friendly service. I had the scoop of rum and Raisin and pine nut and both were OUTSTANDING. My wife had cappuccino chocolate chunk and she raved about it. If you want to try something special give this spot a try. Seemed like an odd spot, but I'm so glad we ventured this way. The ladies behind the counter were very welcoming. The assortment on the menu was beyond just the popsicles I expected. They were all out of tamarind (my fave) but my kids had chocolate and cookies n cream ones that they enjoyed. I got something called The Bionic, a dish of fresh fruits with a yogurtlike dressing and any toppings, I chose granola, coconut and honey. It was delicious. Just found this location and a couple of us did a mid-day Paleta run from our offices in Westlake.. We brought back for co-workers of multiple nationalities and everybody loved them!
