Love this little ice cream shop. They only take cash but they are reasonably priced. Love the passion fruit and guava frozen fruit pops

A watermelon paleta in Mt. Vernon. A good find on a warm day.

I was with a friend just passing through after getting off a bus from Yonkers. I spotted a sign that said ice cream and it was a pretty warm day, so I thought to myself, why not? The place was pretty small but with freezers bearing wall-to-wall ice cream of various fruit and mainstream flavors, as well as the Mexican-style popsicles- paletas- I have seen before in the Bronx that apparently they are famous for. The milk-bases ones seré $2.25 and the water/juice-based, $2. I selected a watermelon one and my friend bought a coffee popsicle. Mine had pieces of the actual fruit in it and it was refreshing, not sickeningly sweet like some; I imagine it was mostly, if not all natural ingredients. The girl who worked that was very warm and polite. We both enjoyed our pops, in fact considering going back for seconds and thirds had I not been trying to avoid excessive calories. ; ) It was a nice find in an unfamiliar area where most businesses were closed on a late Sunday afternoon.

Guava on the left and vanilla covered with chocolate and sprinkles on the right. But the inside was orange. Dunno what that was about.

If u haven't tried a Mexican paleta, well what are u waiting for? They are deeeelish. We have tried the guava, guanabana, cookies and cream, and vanilla covered with choc and sprinkles. My son likes more conventional American flavors and I opt for the fruits that play a big role in Latin cuisine, like Guava, mango, guanabana (also known in other parts of the world as soursop). If you want something traditional, stick to the fruity ones made with water or milk. Water based are more refreshing, and milk based are more rich. I haven't tried their pineapple with chile, but have made it at home and it is a winning combo. Sounds weird to some non-mexicans, but is a very classic pairing of sweet with spicy. Let that be the first flavor you try. The sugar balances the heat, trust me.

I was stoked when I first learned of this spot. I can't believe I was today years old. My gf sent…read moreme a video and if was perfect timing since my mother's birthday was this past weekend. I stopped by to pick up some flavors I knew she would appreciate and had a cooler ready with ice packs, to transport them to her in LI. The video mentioned that they have pre-packed pints but suggested having them hand pack the ice cream at time of purchase for the freshest batch. I ordered quite a few flavors, including rum raisin/grapenut, Jamaican rum cake, and stout. We also had some cups for the ride. My kiddo had cookies & cream, hubby and I shared what was supposed to be eggnog/rum raisin but was only rum raisin. The lady helping us mistakenly gave me separate rum raisin and egg nog cups. I was able to try all of them. The consistency is creamy and the flavors are great. They also make smoothies, sundaes, waffles/ice cream, ice cream cakes, and regular cakes. They have traditional flavors and the more traditionally Caribbean flavors. They can get pretty busy. We lucked out when we got there but because we had a large order, they got a little backed up. There are plenty of hands to help take orders and they're pretty efficient. There's a slight but reasonable upcharge for using credit over cash, so keep that in mind, but they do take NFCs which is convenient. I will definitely be back, make no mistake about that. I'm dying to try their pralines & cream, one of my fave flavours.

Of course, the refrigerated products aren't always as fresh as those at the counter but they come at a good discount - the tradeoff is worth it to me. The Stout ice cream is my favorite but there are some other unique options. The classics hit as well.
