I really wanted a donut and my husband was craving a Kolache so it was nice to find a spot that had both offerings. We walked in to the store and it seemed like your run of the mill donut shop. Looks can absolutely be deceiving! The first clue that this was no ordinary shop was the amount of regulars that were there for their favorite donuts. I ordered a glaze twist and maple donut for myself. 2 regular glaze donuts for my stepson, a kolache and a chocolate donut for husband. The service was friendly and fast! We got our donuts and headed to the car. I started with the glaze twist. When I tell you it was one of the best donuts I've ever had! It was one of the best donuts I've ever had! A flaky, buttery, perfectly made piece of heaven. We were silent the entire time eating. Lol. My hubby loved the kolache as well. If you find yourself in Palestine, TX be sure to stop by.

So, I was in Giovanni's Italian Ristorante and was chagrined to find out that they were BYOB (see…read moremy review), when my waitress helpfully suggested that I go to Top Taste Donuts. Of course, I was thinking "WTF?" Why would I go to a donut shop for wine, but then I remembered that the craziest combinations of enterprises can be found in small towns. Ask me about the time when I worked at a local adult video store/tanning salon/limo rental business in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Anyway, so my colleague and I headed to Top Taste. It is more like a convenience store that happens to have a pastry counter. They also sell some lower end, but doable wines, like Yellow Tail, and some even lower, and not doable (at least for me) "wines" such as NightTrain, and a selection of domestic beers. Yum, Yum. Also, they sell donuts, deli meats, candies, cigarettes, lotto, and Cowboy jerseys.

I see some reviews saying he thinks he's better than others. Well number one, he is. But also, the man is from Italy. Maybe y'all just don't know how to handle an Italian personality. He's not rude. I think my favorite thing about this place though, is my wife and I never receive any side ways or ugly looks from any of the staff. It's somewhere we can go to enjoy a meal and each other's company that's outside of our home. So yeah, I'm going to rate Giovanni's as high as possible. The vibe is great, the decor is old school (which I adore), Mr. Giovanni always checks on his customers in terms of making sure they're doing ok and food quality, it's quiet most of the time, and it's safe. This place will continue to have our business.

We had issues with what we received not matching what we ordered - we received pizza with toppings and sizes that were more expensive, but NOT WHAT WE WANTED, and more importantly, NOT WHAT HE REPEATED BACK TO US. We finally got the food we ordered. When it came time to pay the bill, I explicitly asked if the bill would have what we ordered, and not the more expensive items that they tried to give us. He SWORE the ticket would match what we ordered. 30 seconds later, he handed me the final receipt (he wouldn't let me see the bill before I paid with my card) and sure enough, the bill was padded. I confronted him on it, and he finally agreed to take the item off that we did not order. I do not appreciate dishonesty. I had JUST covered that I didn't want the items on there that didn't order, and he swore they would not be there. But put them on there anyway. I recommend you review your ticket BEFORE you pay.

Ceramic plates, metal utensils, and cloth napkins. Service was excellent as we were seated and our drink orders taken within a few minutes. I had the triple meat bacon cheeseburger without a bun and coffee. It came with some pretty amazing fires as well. The burger clicked all the right buttons. Flavorful, juicy, cheesy, and bacony. lol Our total for two meals and coffees was $36. I wanted to give our waitress' name, Keely. She was by to check on us just the right amount as well as a male waiter who I did not get his name. When we were checking out, the manager also asked how our experience here had gone. One of the best service experiences I have had at a Denny's. I can not understand the low ratings unless there was a recent management change? Anyway I would definitely recommend them.

My hasbrowns were barely cooked and I ordered them extra crispy. My wife's hasbrowns were barely cooked and still "crunchy" raw. Her eggs were ordered "over medium" and they came with the whites runny. She sent her plate back and when it returned the eggs were over cooked and the hash browns looked like they scraped the edge of the griddle and gave her the greasy overcooked leftovers. I wish I had thought to take a photo but it was gross. When I went to check out the cashier asked if everything was alright. I said no my wife's breakfast was not okay. She never said a word and just rang up the transaction. The bill was over $56 and I would have been better off going to a fast food restaurant for a lot less. I will not be coming back. This saddens me because we have had very good service in past years, however these past two visits have shown that things have changed and we will be looking for another breakfast place. This Denny's needs to do some retraining or rehiring of the kitchen staff.
