I will also be obtaining a statement from the AC Company who inspected the units today stating what was put in our home isn't a compatible combination, that Scott's negligence in installing 2 incompatible units caused the unit to break and an estimate from the certified company for a new system. 1) I paid Scott $900.00 for the install of the inside unit 2-3 years ago and Scott said he would match the outside unit (he would find one to match), Scott also said the unit would fall under a 10 year warranty. 2) I paid Scott $1500.00 for the second install of the outside Rheems unit 1 year ago (2018) which he said would be added to the 10 year warranty. 3) Scott told Michael and I that both units were "scratch and dent" from the warehouse and that's why he could get them at such a reduced rate which we found out today that there is no such thing. 4) Scott told Michael and I that both units were the conversion to the R410 that was "cheaper on Freon" because the old Freon was being phased out. 5) Scott took our receipts to both units and said he was going to register the warranties. Scott didn't leave us a copy nor do we know the actual install dates. 6) Michael has made numerous calls to Scott over those 2-3 years telling him that the unit(s) we're freezing up and that we needed it fixed. Scott told Michael to let it thaw out, clean the coil with coil cleaner, and to change the filter. 7) When Michael and I spoke to Scott a couple months ago, when the unit had finally just went out and wouldn't work, Scott wanted to charge $400 for a service call because of how far away he lived and we refused because the units are supposed to be under warranty. Everyone got upset, Scott told me to call a local A/C company and have them look up the serial numbers to have it fixed under warranty. Now... I called a Rheems certified AC company today and had them come out to our house this afternoon because the inside unit is still not working and it's 110 in our house. 1) He searched the serial number to the outside unit... there is NO WARRANTY. This unit is manufactured by Rheem but is actually an OFF BRAND called Sure Comfort manufactured in 2017 that is sold with NO WARRANTY. It is a R410 outside unit. 2) The inside unit does NOT match the outside unit and is a CHEAP OFF BRAND called Nordyne which was manufactured in 07/2008 and should NOT have been installed inside with the Rheem outside unit because it's an R22 unit. 3) The Rheems certified dealer told us there is no "scratch and dent" through the supply house and that more than likely, they came from someone else's home where a new install was done. 4)He said the the metering system was replaced, which is fine but the PSI on the inside Nordyne unit is not capable to handle the pressure from the 410 Sure Comfort outside unit. The coil can not withstand the pressure which has caused holes to be blown in the coil and lose the Freon further causing the unit to freeze up ultimately causing the shortage in the electrical panels in the bottom of the unit. So, the inside unit is TRASH and we have no AC unit once again. It's going to cost me anywhere from $6k-10k to have new units installed because it is advised to install the units at the same time with the same manufacturer to ensure proper compatibility.

Given that, Steve recommended maintaining the current system and replacing it only when necessary, and preferably during the slower fall season. Steve's honest assessment saved me thousands, and he has earned my future business. He also told me something the other guys didn't: The closet that contains my air handler and water heater is not large enough for the new system recommended to me, so the HVAC and water heater bundle quote I received was likely to increase significantly under sales pressure, and would require a tankless water heater. If you enjoy spending thousands more than necessary, there are plenty of companies in ETX that will help you do exactly that. However, if you value honesty, integrity, fairness, and a lifetime of experience, do your family a favor and call Steve Baser Air Conditioning. The we had a home inspection to sell and the inspection said it was not draining properly. The attic was getting wet the unit was not level and the furnace vent was crimped and could cause a carbon monoxide issue. Husband called they were to come the next day. I call at 5:30 next day to ask when they were coming. He told me the issues were a problem with the house not their work Inspectors were asshole and don't know anything. He kept screaming at me I said 2x we need to end this conversation but he kept yelling. I hung up. 10 minutes later he called back with a blocked number and screams for about 4 more minutes so I hung up. He called a AGAIN and left a very hateful voice mail. A toilet seat wobbled a small amount. The Faithco plumber said it would be $275-$1000 to fix it. I took a look at it and it took me 15 seconds to tighten the nuts at the base of the toilet. The drip tray of an air conditioner in the attic had been collecting water and draining through a pipe for years, which is not ideal! The drain took a path that zig-zagged up and down a bit. They proposed raising the unit to be suspended from the rafters and replacing the pan. I asked why not just replace the pipe, taking a straighter path and he said that the AC unit sitting on top of styrofoam supports was putting at risk of falling. His quote was $2800 to raise the unit. And he wouldn't offer other options even after I questioned each part. I asked another company and they suggested changing the pan for $1500 and fixing the drain for $500. We went with just fixing the drain for $500. We wanted a quote on replacing a 20+ year old AC system. Faithco couldn't find the model number of the unit on the equipment outside but found a 3 ton furnace in the attic so they quoted us (summer of 2025) $13,800 for a SEER 15.2 3 ton unit and $16,800 for a SEER 16.2 unit. Another contractor found the nameplate and showed it to me (a little hard to find but not really, right on the compressor) and saw it was a 2 ton unit (you can tell it's a 2 ton because the model number ends in "24"). The other contractor subsequently quoted us $10,500 for a 2 ton system and $12,800 for a 3 ton system. The other contractor also pointed out that since the house has a 2 ton unit for the bedrooms and a 4 ton unit for the main living space, high SEER is less important, the unit would mostly be used in the evenings, not all day. I had a follow-up conversation with the Faithco HVAC tech and he doubled-down on believing it was a 3 ton unit even though I told him I saw the model number ending in "24". He said, and I recall it exactly because it was so odd, "In this area, we make sure our our compressors match our furnaces." I bit my tongue but wanted to say, "I agree, but the nameplate I'm looking at still ends in "24"". Faithco recommended replacing 3 AC float switches for $225 apiece. Maybe it was me but I couldn't figure out why we needed them. I don't think they tested the existing units but I'm not sure. Soooo, we went with Evans Air instead.

He immediately found the problem - the devices which were to hold the drum in place during transit/delivery had never been removed as they should have been.
