Cute little book /cafe store but the rudest employees didn't even get a welcome. How can I help? I definitely won't be back I get treated better at Barnes and noble I try to support small business but oh well

Tucked away in the Roosevelt district, I stumbled upon the most fabulous bilingual bookstore! My bestie invited me to a reading by the fierce author of Badass Bonita, and let me tell you, I struck gold in our gorgeous ciudad! So grateful for the invite and for meeting the inspiring Latina goddess who graced us with her words! Trust me, I'll be back for more, and you absolutely need to check out this bookstore... it's like a warm hug for your soul! Xoxo

Palabras feels like stepping into the wardrobe in Narnia. The unassuming building on Roosevelt spills out into multiple rooms featuring a coffee shop, books in English and Spanish, and plenty of spaces to post up with your laptop! The coffee prices seem fair and they've also got a rewards program that can offer money off your purchase after $100 I believe. There is a spot in the back with four comfortable chairs in a well lit room. There is also a bigger space with tables for getting some work done. Street parking and a small parking lot outside provide plenty of options. The book selection is great and the store also sells plenty of fun little things like candles and stickers! Not to mention, the people here are really friendly.

    beautiful room with books:)

Last time I've been here was 2019 but they recently relocated the beginning of 2021. Such an amazing place with many interesting finds. Many books with various genres in both English and Spanish. They have lots of little treats too such as stickers, pins, games to buy! Lots to find for either yourself or gift for others. Definitely coming back soon for more!

I come here to get lost in this beautiful bookstore. The smell of old books and new puts a smile on my face. I went in today to pickup a copy of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents. Left with that book and 8 other books. I found City of Beasts by Isabel Allende, and The Valkyries by Paulo Coelho and some other great finds. I can never leave here without a stack of books. But who's complaining about that! More to read! Lol. Support this awesome local bookstore! There is a coffee shop/store adjacent to it too!

A charming used bookstore in downtown Phoenix. Walking in, I immediately fell in love with the vibe and atmosphere. There is an excellent selection of used books. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was in search of a good novel by S E Hinton. I asked the manager for help, was so sweet and full of stories from his past career. It was so lovely to connect with him and learn a little bit about him and the book store. I found a good novel and wa as very pleased with the friendly. My favorite was the scifi section; there was just something magical about the room. Filled with tons of old books, it took me right back to my childhood. If you haven't been, I highly recommend stopping by and supporting this gem in Phoenix.

Being from the Midwest, we ended up in a lighthearted, fun conversation about Fargo, which made the visit feel even more welcoming at first. Unfortunately, that experience shifted pretty quickly. During our conversation, the owner came up and told us she could hear us from the back of the store and that we needed to keep it down because a workshop was going on. Fair enough, but it was the delivery that was surprising. She explicitly said, "Because I own the bookstore, I can be rude." That comment really changed the tone. It felt like casual conversation (even a little laughter) wasn't welcome (unless participating in the workshop, by all means join workshop after Happy Hour and be rambunctious while customers are shopping.) The atmosphere suddenly shifted to less inviting and I wished I didn't spend my money. It's disappointing, because the space itself and interactions with staff like Patrick are genuinely great. I just wish the overall experience matched the charm of the bookstore.

When we arrived, I realized I remembered this spot from when I was a kid, I just hadn't been back since I was younger. This spot is absolutely STUFFED with books, comic books, VHS tapes and more. You could spend quite a long time wandering around looking at all of the books they have to offer. It can be slightly overwhelming especially if you are looking for something specific as there wasn't really any clear guidance on where to find certain sections. We still had a lot of fun though wandering around and seeing what we could find. If you are looking for the prices, they are written in pencil on the inside of the books. You can find a mixture of mostly used books along with some new books. They have a cute shop cat that you can sometimes spot wandering around, or asleep at the front. The woman who was working the register the day we visited was friendly! They also had a cart out-front with a number of books that were free to grab. There is plenty of parking out-front.

Once I was got to the store, I had to explore. I think that if one were to regularly visit Books, he/she would find some rare editions and other gems. Also, they had what looked like reproductions of banned book announcements posted around the store: all were of classic novels that we can't imagine not having access to as students. (See photos: Charlotte's Web, Huck Finn, Fahrenheit 451...) They were quite entertaining, in a disturbing way. They had the effect of making me feel so grateful that past efforts of censorship in the US had failed. In 2024, this is still a real threat. Tiny stores like this one are real treasures. Let's keep them in business.

I walk in to Bookman's and often find displays that are Arizona focused in a way that makes you feel and know this place is home town friendly. No big box impersonal feels here! I frequent this store and stop in just because I'm passing by. As an avid reader, I read about 50 books a year, Bookman's is a great place to buy paper books at a cheaper price. My favorite part about local shops like Bookman's is how they don't shy away from displaying banned books all year long! I have to read at least one banned books a month! There's gotta be something in the banned books they don't want us to know and I'm determined to read as many as possible. Interestingly enough, this store is full of "entertainment treasures" too. Music, musical instruments and even gaming equipment can be purchased here. The only thing missing is a social lounge with a coffee bar. We'd probably go even more often if there were a coffee bar inside. Return Factor: 100%
