Went for halwa poori nashta with a group of friends. We had omelette paratha, aalo paratha, halwa poori and chai. Halwa poori came with cholay and aalo which was really good. Paratha was good too but omelette was extremely salty. We had two omelettes and both were very salty. Not sure if this was a mistake or that's how they normally make it. I was not a fan of their aalo paratha as it wasnt crispy like it should be. It was mushy and soggy for my liking. Finally their chai was pretty good They need to work on cleaning the place more often. We had to clean our own tables and there was literally food on the floor from previous guests. Any Devon goer knows Tahoora is highly overrated and the smaller shops are overlooked. Pak Sweets has better halwa puri! They have things Tahoora doesn't have like Kashmiri Chai. The staff is friendlier. The setting is more intimate. Though it doesn't look like much from the outside, go to Pak Sweets to support the other bakeries less well known than the mainstream ones. read more

Excellent halwa puri -- puri melts in your mouth as you eat it. They also have chicken samosas with a thinner outer crust. Samosas aren't jam packed with cheap filler ingredients like potatoes. Ras Malai was thick, creamy, and not too sweet. Much better quality ingredients and food compared to others in the area like Tahoora. (Tahoora was fantastic back in the day, but has unfortunately lost its food quality over the years.) my only recommendation for improvement for this place would be to clean up (the bathrooms were dirty, for instance), and that the habashi halwa was too sweet. Overall, we were quite satisfied with our experience here. read more

Food is good (samosas, sweets, halwa puri). Just make sure you check your receipt. Last time I went, I was overcharged (the various sweets have different prices per pound) and had to get it adjusted before leaving. The owners did adjust the receipt without arguing, which was appreciated (other stores on Devon are not always as nice) read more

I bought Gulab Jamun here. It's hard to find Pakistani-styled sweets in Chicago. I noticed that there was a section for Ras Malai but the 'Malai' was finished and only the 'Ras' (puree) was left. I wanted it so bad that I was willing to buy it regardless. The lady at the counter, however, gave it to me for free! 10/10 for taste and customer reviews. Would highly recommend. read more

It was my first time experiencing a Pakistani sweet shop. I was overwhelmed with excitement. Their sweets are good. I am a huge nimco fan. They have freshly packaged nimco! The best I have had so far. If I visit Chicago again, I will make sure to save more room to try more desserts. read more

My husband and I went up to Devon Ave with the specific intention of trying as many snacks as possible. Chats and stuff. We walked into Pak Sweets and decided to order the Halwa Puri special that's advertised in the window. Wow, I was impressed. For $3.99 you get three freshly fried breads and an assortment of items to dip the bread in. The largest potion was made of chick peas - it was soupy like a curry and pleasant with the bread. There was even a sweet salmon colored "dessert." I didn't know the names of what I had, but they were sure delicious. As we went on to the next shop for another snack, I realized how nice it was that Pak Sweets offered Halwa Puri all the time as opposed to just weekends as other restaurants do. Agree with Maria that this place has trumped tahoora when it comes to good tasting sweets. The reason for that is that the owner was the one that used to make Tahoora's sweets before and he trained the rest of the staff how to make them, guess you can call him the master! Also, one thing Tahoora still can't make is my favorite mitthai which is Balushai/balu shahi --- Tahoora tries but theirs are nothing like how actual balushai are supposed to be. The only thing I have a complaint with is that sometimes they seem cheap in the amount they give you BUT then again they let you sample stuff and stuff that's just freshly made is left on the counter for people to sample while hot! read more

We love their Halwa Puri. It comes with Halwa and puris but also chickpeas and potato curry. They also give you the best Raita(yogurt dip) with it. Also their paratha's are delicious. They taste just like homemade parathas because the nice owner lady probably makes them herself in the back. It is a family owned place and the owners are real friendly. Their sweets are great. Though if you haven't tried Indian/Pakistani sweets before try a little before buying in bulk. They are super sweet. Our favorite sweet is Gulab Jamun. read more

awesome Pakistani sweets place, it does not look all that appealing from the outside, but once you are inside, they offer a great variety of sweets the sweets here are not overwhelmingly sweet, it has more flavour to it than just syrup like a lot of the buffet places. each piece has its own flavour and tastes quite fresh i espeically liked the one with the fig/anjeer in it, will come back earlier in the day next time to try its halwa puri (only available before 3pm each day) read more

Small family owned. I have eaten Halwa Puri at Tahoora for ages, but after trying this place I have to say, Pak Sweets is hands down the best Halwa Puri place in USA. Fantastic halwa, really authentic Gawal Mundi taste. Cholay are to die for. Great achar and Puris are crisp, crunchy and gigantic. Awesome chai and Mango lassi. Their parathas are soft but the right amount of crisp, massive and in layers, exactly the kind I used to have in Lahore. Decor is mediocre and service friendly but typical of Pakistani joints, but I can't complain because this is hulwa poori heaven. read more

I went to this place last Friday as I was craving for Indian sweets. They have a good variety of sweets. I bought Cham Cham, boondi laddoo, Mysore pak and samosas. Cham Cham and Mysore pak tasted less than ok. Cham Cham was little dry and not as soft as it should be. Mysore pak tasted different from what we get in Karnataka, India. Boondi laddoos on the other hand tasted good, they were not extremely sweet as well. Samosas tasted great but a tad oily. The pastry was crispy and flaky. Worst customer service! I have been to this place twice ; first time was on the 14th of August, 2014 . They hardly had anything available , only one boy was working and the food he gave us was old! my husband had a paratha roll and I had samosa. the food was not fresh, it smelled bad too ! a couple of months after I went again with a friend , and this time before ordering I asked them nicely whether the samosas were made fresh and the guy said it rudely of course they are fresh with a very bad facial expressions. It just blew me off and I walked out . I'm never coming back again .. Wish I could give no stars!! read more

Move over Tahoora. Pak Sweets is clearly unparalleled in its delectable sweets...but a visit is worth it just to experience the hospitality of the owner and his family. Stopped in on a whim on my way home one afternoon. I told the man behind the counter that I didn't know much about Indian sweets but was curious. He was awesome and gave me samples of about seven different types and told me what they were made with. They were delicious. I got a box of several types to bring home and will be back again soon. Like, I can't wait to go back. I'm even trying to learn the names so I know what I like. Places like this are why I love living in the city. read more

The owner's son served me and was very patient. I am not familiar with Pakistani sweets, and he served me tons of samples before taking my order. I was able to choose a great selection. He also gave me a sample of a couple of types of spicy snacks. I will definitely be back.
