Hey Key West FB Friends. Just posting a 'fair warning' notice for you when/if you are considering using Pakmail in Key West. A good friend of mine was kind enough to offer to send me my lifetime collection of music, including books I've owned, and binders I've put together over the past 30 years, which I've used in my various piano playing & singing gigs.
The proprietor of the establishment, located off of N. Roosevelt on 4th Street, sold her a used Amazon box in which my two bags of music were placed and then taped up by the store owner. At NO point did he ask her about insuring the package, nor did he mention that since she 'chose' to purchase a 'used box', that that choice was rendered null and void, since (post facto) he told me UPS will NOT accept insurance on used boxes. WTF?
So, the music was shipped, uninsured, in a used box, for around $40 to me here in Northern FL. When I accepted delivery of the box, I noted right away that it didn't weigh ANYWHERE NEAR the 26 LBS. indicated on the receipt I was sent. I contacted my friend, who told me that the box was indeed shipped with BOTH BAGS, which did weight that amount,.
So then a phone call to John at Pakmail, who put In a trace with UPS on the missing items, for which I had provided him a short list (I mean, looseleaf binders with tons of music In plastic sleeves) along with 2 or 3 collections of Broadway and popular music.
Two days went by and I get a text back that NO LUCK! He then told me about the used box rule and that Irie hadn't asked about insuring the package? Huh? I responded asking if that shouldn't have been something he might've mentioned to her when shipping my entire music collection? But, NO! He placed that burden and responsibility directly on my friend's head.
I find this "Teflon-like" response both irresponsible and UNfair to customers who, like my friend, probably were NOT aware of the need for insuring their shipment, but also of this 'UNinsurable package' that was SOLD by the store owner and then NOT TOLD of the "used box" rule.
Yes, it's a lesson learned WAY TOO LATE for my personal loss. It's been devastating. There were hand-written arrangments in some of the binders I'll never be able to retrieve from anyone or anywhere. Plus, the multiple man hours of assembling the song lists, costs to print out copywritten music off of the internet, etc.
And all this owner has to say is "Sorry. Your friend didn't ask about insurance", NOT that insurance would've come close to covering the costs of my loss in the first place.
BUYERS/SHIPPERS/FRIENDS BEWARE! Also, going to publish this post on several other sites to warn unsuspecting folks of the complete LACK of customer service and follow through by this establishment. read more
