Ham and Brie sandwich, chocolate croissant, and latte
    Madison L.

We came in for a quick lunch and had a good experience. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. There was only one member of staff taking orders. The shop is big and beautiful with a stunning pastry case. I got a ham and Brie sandwich, a chocolate croissant, and a hot latte. The sandwich was a good portion size and very flavorful. The ham and Brie with green apple, onion, and mayo was delicious. The bread was so fresh. My croissant was big and buttery. My latte was good, but despite being hot, they served it in a glass which made it harder to drink. Overall, a solid cafe experience.

Great bakery in old Quebec City. They offer everything from your standard croissants and danishes to quiche, salad and sandwiches. This is the type of place you can pick up food for a picnic or just drop in for a quick coffee and sweet treat after a day of walking. Set up is cafeteria style. You order at the counter, pay for your items and then grab a seat. Seating area is spacious.

Wide selection of pastries and drinks. The pastries were good. Ordered hot chocolate as well, great taste but was warm rather than hot. Good experience but fairly average for the area.

It's in the busy tourist area serves great food. They were very efficient and there were plenty choices. The table setting was more for sharing then individual group. We enjoyed the bagel combo and croissant combo.

My friend was craving some pastries in Quebec, so a quick search and we found Paillard. According to their website, it started with an artisanal baker from father to son. Paillard was born out of a true passion for bread. The bakery combines the talent of French artisans with the "American-style" experience. Paillard offers breads, baked goods, pastries, pizzas, chocolate, jams, gift baskets, etc. They boast 25+ years of experience, Quebec company, with "French Know-How". We went twice on the trip in February. Ordered a whole bunch of stuff to try; both times were breakfast / brunch time. My faves were Almond Croissant and Salmon Bagel. Lines are long but the turnover is fairly fast; relatively short wait. Service is friendly. There are several stations to order different items, so you have to pay attention to which station to order what items. Ambiance is casual. Ensemble c'est mon moment prefere. Together it's my favorite moment. ENJOY!!

I came to grab breakfast here and loved all of the pastries that they had! There was a ton of variety and a great amount of seating. I had a blue berry danish and it was delicious!

Paillard offers an impressive selection of pastries that immediately catch your eye when you walk in. I ordered the Paillard Salad with added chicken, and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, filling, and full of flavor. The chicken addition was cheap too! There's plenty of seating available. The iced coffee was excellent. Prices are fair overall, and the service was friendly and helpful, with staff happy to answer questions. You can also dine outside if you want.

Yummy pastries and quiche. So many options. My friend had the combo and she loved it. She has the cheddar broccoli soup and she loved it. Service was also very nice

Inexpensive Canadian bakery chain that does a great job for pastries, tarts and French bakes. It's also very popular for sandwich-soup combos that make this place packed around meal times as travelers like the fast grab, eat, and go option. this particular location had a lot of travelers resting with their families around lunch time, so good luck finding seating if you come around peak hour. If you are trying to try a sample of Canadian French pastry without spending too much, highly recommend this place. we bought 5 desserts back to our hotel to pair with some afternoon tea. Sable fraise: strawberry shortbread cookie- somewhat like a Windsor. Good safe option for those who like their butter cookies. Abricogie- a good safe apricot. based dessert. black berry tarte- good flaky pastry. Definitely a good choice if you don't want something too sweet but satisfies crunch, comfort, and a fruit to balance it out. beignet Chocolat- for those who love sugar, a must. It was heavy for us but we appreciate that it's well made. Mille Feulle Cake- a must for those who love a good creme in middle and the flaky pastry. I would recommend the one with strawberry jam alongside it. it comes without strawberry but I think it's a very heavy option if you don't have the bright strawberry to balance it out. They also had quiches, sandwiches, and cakes. I would definitely try this place again in the future if I had the chance!

I loved the Christmas decor. The vibes were high at this place. My brownie was excellent - nutty, chocolaty, and decadent. My wife's chocolate croissant was excellent! She said it was the best she ever had! Our breakfast sandwiches were outstanding. I had ham, egg, and cheese on a bagel. There was delicious mayo-esque spread on the bottom that took it to the next level. This was just a fantastic breakfast! The pic shows our stomachs were more eager than the camera. Hence the bites already taken.

Paillard is now my favorite cafe/bakery in Old Quebec (upper part). We stayed in AIRBNB and had to cross St Jean Street to go to old Quebec. Every day, we stopped here for breakfast and how reasonable it was. $8 for coffee and one big croissant- wow Croissants are part of what makes Québec City so European. Traditionally French, and commonly made with layers of butter. Go for its filled croissants- A generous, hearty pastry and an even better chocolatine, a croissant filled with chocolate. I like how modern and inviting the whole space is. There are small and large communal tables to sit at. The area is divided into several sections where you can get your bakery items, gelato, coffee, and some light lunches. It's a great place to take a break, get something to eat and talk.

Grande boulangerie avec beaucoup de choix. Pris une tentation aux petits fruits et un poirier. Ok. Pas aussi croustillant qu'en France

This review is strictly for the beignet. They weren't great or bad. They were just alright. Can't really say much about the service. Maybe next time, if we happen to be in the area again, we'll try their other stuff.

A solid choice. Very busy location, but service was quick and efficient. Drip coffee was lackluster, but the food was good.

Picture this: soft snow falling on the cobblestone streets of Petit-Champlain, fairy lights glowing, and the warm light spilling out of this beautiful little café. I ducked in both mornings of my short trip and could have happily stayed all day. The interior is perfect Québécois charm: exposed stone walls, wooden beams, cozy lighting, and that unbeatable smell of fresh baking. First morning I ordered the pistachio latte and the quiche Florentine. I would legitimately sell my firstborn for that pistachio latte: silky, perfectly balanced, with a rich, natural pistachio flavor that no syrup could ever match. One sip and I was ruined for life. The quiche was flawless: buttery, flaky crust, creamy spinach-and-cheese filling, baked to golden perfection. Absolute breakfast heaven. I braved a full-on snowglobe blizzard the next morning just to come back. This time I paired the same life-changing pistachio latte with the almond croissant. I'd hand over my other kid for daily access to these croissants (kidding... mostly). Impossibly crisp and flaky outside, cloud-soft inside, generously stuffed with fragrant almond paste, topped with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. I ate it slowly by the window while the snow piled up on Rue Notre-Dame and honestly felt like the luckiest person alive. The baristas were friendly, the vibe warm and unhurried, and everything was flawless. If you're in Quebec City, make La Maison Smith non-negotiable (and budget time to visit at least twice). Five stars isn't enough. This place is winter-morning perfection.
