If you are in Quebec Basse Ville in Petit Champlain, it is worth a visit to Confiserie Madame GIGI. The sweets display is eye catching and certainly worth a picture or two. Better still, if you have a sweet tooth, you will not be disappointed. I definitely was not. I tried the black chocolate fudge on a stick and having consumed it while strolling on this busy street, I had to come back for 2 reasons. One: the price is quite affordable and two: the taste is somewhat unique that I then tried the nutty nougat. The size is big enough that I can share. I had every good reason to return back. So good. We were very hungry when we found Mme Gigi and quickly ordered pastries and coffee. As we were eating, I noticed that they had maple croissants and we ordered one to share. This place looks like it is run by kids...no joke! We thought this was "the place to be" for gelato. However, we were quickly proven wrong. The gelato was not very smooth in texture. One of the boys behind the counter dropped a bagel on the floor and was looking to see if the customer saw. He looked like he was going to continue using the bagel until I kinda freaked out and made a comment. The overall look of the cafe was old and dusty. First of all, the atmosphere was amazing. It seemed like a candy store with all the colors. The gelato here isn't bad, but it's not the best. With that in mind, it's a sure bet to satisfy your sugar craving when you're in the area. Overall this place looks q bit dingy and in serious need of a good cleaning. Madame Gigi's looks exactly how one would picture a shop in QC to look. Macarons were well executed with the right amount of chew. I tried: Blueberry Raspberry Port Wine (my favourite...it had a noticeable port flavour that wasn't overly grape-y) The bf had some pineapple gelato that was delicious but small in portion. This little place while walking along Petit-Champlain was such a nice find. It was the sign that got me to stop and look at this cafe. I was charmed by the quaintness of the store front and when I caught a glimpse of various delectable treats through the glass I popped in. I went in when it wasn't very busy and the staff here were friendly and understanding when I wanted to take a good look at the sweet items. The macarons and the gelato caught my attention and that what's I had for a nice break from the stroll. The Gateau Fromage and the Praline were soothing and so was the cool blue colored Barbe A Papa was also tasty. This place was amazing! It was our last day and we had breakfast here. Honestly it was the best breakfast we had while we stayed here. They have great specials "Sandwich... Soup and coffee" 11.95$ . I had the croissant sandwich with egg and cheese it came with vegetable soup and cafe lait for 1.00$ more. Everything was amazing!!!! Very cute chocolate shop in old Quebec! They have a huge variety of individual chocolates, macarons, and other chocolate products. They even have food, and some patrons were sitting down in-store to eat. I purchased a chocolate pizza to bring back as a gift, and it was wrapped beautifully. It did not taste too sweet! read more

My wife and I came here for a late breakfast. The guy behind the counter was friendly and attentive, but the food was not that great. The chocolate croissant had the consistency of dry toast, rather than being crisp and flaky. It actually made the roof of my wife's mouth raw from being so hard. The latte was also weak and not even as good as the self-service machine in our hotel. The egg, cheese, and ham sandwich was fine, just very average, but was at least edible. Overall, we were hoping for something delicious in Quebec City, but were very disappointed. My opinion is that they have some young people working there that try to do a good job, but do not care as much about good food. read more

This place is a little gem! Their lunch special of soup, sandwich and coffee for just under $12 is what brought us in the door. Our server was so friendly, she made us feel right at home. The homemade cream of carrot soup was one of the best bowls of soup I've ever had, and I also enjoyed a roast beef sandwich on a homemade croissant and a warm cup of maple tea. I adored Mme Gigi's confiserie. Oddly enough, there was none of the gelato mentioned by the other reviewers--perhaps they only have it in the summer? What drew us in was the colourful display of chocolates for Paques. The chocolates we tasted were so good we ended up going most afternoons for a bol de latte and a sweet, and my mother purchased eleven chocolate bears to take home to people as souvenirs! I ordered a rolo cupcake which in the display was covered in rolos, mine arrived without a rolo in sight.
