Amazing place to come and get outdoor gears, we drove an hour from Baton Rouge to come to get some things for our vehicle for kayaking. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, they are very patient and explaining different products and looking up inventory and orders. They spent so much time with us to make sure we are comfortable with what we are purchasing, they have all kinds of things including clothing, tents, shoes, kayaks, tackle boxes...you name it! Best place in the area for sure!! Another huge thing for us is that we bought a losing system to help get a heavy fishing kayak up on my SUV, they have a guy help us to try it out to make sure my husband is comfortable doing it and if he isn't they would let us return it..we love that they really care and not just here to make another dollar! read more

From the minute you walk in, you'll feel the vibes of a cozy cabin in the woods. Climb in a tent, or swing in a hammock. - This place has it goin on! The owners and staff are all so welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable! They really make you feel like family. From the community events and guided outdoor adventures they are always something fun going on. I'd venture to say this just might be my husband and I's favorite little spot/shop in Lafayette. PROS: Great prices on boats. I've looked all over town, and you won't find better prices on boats anywhere in town. I won't name the other places, but many places list their kayak prices at several hundred dollars more than Pack and Paddle. In addition, Pack and Paddle comes with a promise that they will install any boat additions for free (labor) when you buy from them. Awesome selection of gear. P&P has pretty much all the gear an outdoorsman can possibly want. They have varieties of kayaks, canoes, paddles, Go Pro cameras, camping tents, camping hammocks, and any other outdoor gear you can think of, they have it. Ultra friendly and personable. They make you feel like you're part of the team. I recommended a few people to them, and in return thanked me and told me to pick any hat in the store! Lot's of great activities. P&P has tons of awesome events and activities going on each month. Everything from hikes (kisatchie, clark creek, etc.) to kayaking trips (lake martin, chicot, etc.) and even movies & outdoorsy tutorials. Some of the cool tutorials are camping tutorials that help with creating the lightest loads for hiking, or how to get back into your kayak from in the water. They also have regular sales of used gear and boats, where people from the community can sell their boats at a decent price. CONS: While they DO offer fair prices for all of their products, some of there stuff is a little pricey -- but that's only because they only offer high-end products in a given product line. For example: their life jackets are pretty usually no lower than about $60, but that's only because they don't offer the low-end life jackets. --------------------------- All in all, they're by far the best outdoorsman's shop in town. Without question. P&P has great service, awesome selection of gear, and is just a great community to join if you love the outdoors. Between the local events they have ALL of the time, the store has every possible outdoor gear you could imagine. From kayaks to backpacks to camping equipment and clothing, I wanted everything in this store. The staff was SO knowledgeable and friendly. If I lived closer I am convinced I would a regular at all of their events. read more

Just finished the Kayaking 101 class and loved it!!! The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly, and all my questions were answered. Both guides helped with how to kayak from selecting a boat, how to use a paddle, how to avoid fatigue, and so much more. We were at Lake Martin, and they pointed out wildlife as well as showed us the best routes to take along the way. Now, I'm hooked on kayaking and can't wait to go back. I recently purchased a tent at Pack and Paddle and haven't yet tried it out, but the sales associate was super helpful and even showed me how to set it up. But I was disappointed to learn that I couldn't sell my old tent at P & P's annual "Garage Sale" because the brand didn't meet "industry standards" for materials. The brand is Cascade Outdoor Gear, purchased in Portland, Oregon a few years ago. The tent is like-new because it was only used three times. But when I brought it in for the sale, I was told the rain fly wasn't of the right quality material so they couldn't include it in the "garage sale." Since when do items at a garage sale have to meet high quality standards? I can't imagine that P & P offers any guarantee on used items, and besides, customers can see for themselves the quality of the material before purchasing. I told the associate that these restrictions should be included in the publicity for the garage sale to save people the time of driving to the store. read more

I finally went to Pack & Paddle today, and I have to say it's pretty awesome. The employees are really nice and happy to help, even with the low-ticket items I was buying. The atmosphere is awesome and just makes you want to get OUTSIDE, which we all could use more of. read more

We were on our way to dinner when this this place caught our eye. Since we had a day and a half in town, I thought we could duck in to glean some insight on where to paddle nearby. Now coming from Chicago, I might be jaded, but I must say I'm glad we stopped in. This was my first trip to the area and Pack and Paddle set the tone for a trip that made us want to return to these waterways. To say the staff was kind and helpful would be an understatement. Within 20 minutes I had several free maps and suggested routes. Although they had nothing to gain, it was no problem for them to stop what they were doing to call another outfitter and inquire if they had canoes available. We wound up having a great day/paddle on the Bayou Teche and Lake Martin. After looking at their programs and trips online, I can say that this place is a real resource for this community and those that travel there. Check them out. read more
