I love coming thru driving the towboat and dropping the skiff to get a poboy or buy the crew something to eat besides boat food

Sure, Jack Miller's Landing is in the middle of freaking no where. Okay, not in the middle of no where, it's in the middle of bayou country. It's a bar/grill, gas station, truck and boat parking and a small convenience store. We were waiting for a swamp nature tour and needed lunch. This was the ONLY option nearby. We order boudin and discovered that it is delicious! Sure, it's mystery meat with rice in a casing - but, dang, it was so freaking tasty! My wife and I were in the area in March of 2018. We were interested in Jack Miller's Landing and the general area because of the history of the area. A settlement known as Park was just north of Jack Miller's Landing prior to the Civil War. Park was where herds of Texas cattle driven from deep south Texas were off loaded from cowboats and driven up the natural levee beside Plaquemine Bayou to Plaquemine. There the herds were loaded onto steamboats on the Mississippi River and transported into New Orleans to the livestock market there. Literally thousands of cattle passed through the area where Jack Miller Landing is now located. This spot on the trail from South Texas to New Orleans is historically important. It deserves to be cited as a historically significant location. My wife and I enjoyed eating a hamburger and fries at Jack Miller Landing. That burger tasted just as good as any burger served in Texas made with Texas beef. The employees as well as the patrons at Jack Miller Landing were all as polite and welcoming as any Texan could be back in the Lone Star State. Many thanks. read more
