Hours do not indicate a winter change.

Hunting season here in Louisiana, and I needed some more ammo. It's Friday evening and I look online to verify hours. Great, it's 7:20pm and they don't close until 9pm. I get there @ 7:56pm, and notice a white sheet of paper on the door stating temporary hours, closing at 8pm. The greeter proceeds to tell myself and another customer that they will be closing in 4 minutes. I knew right where I was going, retrieved my product, and headed for checkout just as they were announcing that they were closed on the intercom. As I arrived at checkout, there was only 1 register open and 20ish customers waiting for that one register. I guess I am more disappointed with the hours being shortened during hunting season here in Sportsman's Paradise.

Hard to believe that they won any legitimate service award given our experience.

Just had another unpleasant encounter with Bass Pro Shop. Several years ago we made the mistake of buying an ATV and UTV from them (Arctic Cat). After a butcher job when they (Bass Pro Shop Denham Springs) attempted to disservice the UTV we have chosen to never bring our vehicles back to them again. Ever. Unfortunately, they seem to be the only ones around to maintain a stock of Arctic Cat supplies--it's time for an oil change and our usual guy is busy. Crazy us, we thought that since it is their brand (at least until recently) and we did buy the machine from them they would be able to help hook us up. Nope. At least not with a wait and some attitude. When we got to the Parts desk it was empty. No one there. No "Be Back Soon" sign. No bell to "Ring for Service." No one there. We waited. We could see the oil and filters. We waited. We wondered where the employees were. We waited. Finally we flagged down an employee on the floor who informed us that he could not help as the parts department does not carry a radio, so he could not call them. As I'm considering calling the operator and asking her to transfer me to the Parts Department, the floor employee managed to flag down a Parts Department employee. So, things getting better...or not. No "Hello" or "How are y'all" or "Sorry about the wait" or even a smile, just a straight to business "What do y'all want?" Ok. So I informed her that we have a 2013 Arctic Cat ATV 700 Core and would like an oil change kit and air filter. She immediately informed us that they no longer carried the kits, but had the separate items...and asked what size I needed. I informed her that I was not sure, and she immediately asked what did my owner's manual say. Ok, my bad. I did not bring the owner's manual with me. I figured since they sold the cobranded item and offer service for it that they might have an idea about that, but they didn't. In fact, a second lady came out and the first related the events to her, prompting lady two to separately ask, "well what does your owner's manual say?" I gave up and Googled it. In doing so I also discovered that the oil change kits are still carried by several vendors and that they costs about $35, not the $75 that the Bass Pro Shop Parts Department charged me for the same separate items (plus an air filter, maybe that was the difference). And thus we completed our transaction, receiving not even a "good bye" or "have a nice day" as we left. Outstanding job for the "Service CSI Award Winner 2018." I guess we should have come in 4-5 months ago.

I do not hunt or fish. I like girly stuff. Makeup, perfume, shoes, lacy stuff. You know. Girl shit. But y'all. This store is bad fucking ass. I have two brothers and and a brother in law who love this store and they have talked it up numerous times. I laughed at that and just chalked it up to too much testosterone coursing through their veins. Then I happened to stop in here. Yep. I get it now. It has everything you could possibly want or need no matter if you're a guy or a girl. Do you like fishing? You can get all of your fishing supplies here. Do you like to hunt? It's here. Guns, camo, bullets. Girls-there are purses, sunglasses, fudge (!) and baby clothes in here. Ok? It's two whole stories of awesomeness and I didn't even know what I was missing out on.

Very dark thick roux with a hint of over cooking. Very over priced for the quality even after several visits. www.geeksanywhere.com

Service is good but the food is by no means representative of Louisiana cultures as you might think. VERY over priced. Gumbo roux was slightly burnt and too think. Wahoo Dip tasted like tuna fish from a can with crackers. Let's just say, the crackers were better than the dip. After many visits here I can confidently make a review. I've tried many of their dishes. Including fried alligator. I recommend a better chef for this place. I think he's ruining this establishment. I'll keep going to Don's Seafood around the corner when I'm looking for better quality seafood.

Walked over to Bass Pro Shops from Sam's Club to pass by the 2 hours Sam's needed to mount a new tire. It was the first time I had ever just sat down in the lobby and taken in the view. It is a beautifully decorated building. The wife and I walked around the building to the lake and fed the turtles and ducks. They have food machines to get a hand full of duck feed, but the ducks liked the steak fries that some kids were feeding them as well. I kept it simple and ordered a fried shrimp po-boy sandwich. It came with fries and a small loaf of bread with butter was brought to the table as well. My wife got a stack of onion rings. All of the food was very good, but maybe on the mild side. It was a very nice eating experience,

It's a pretty fun place to just walk around and look at things. Playing outlaws sound fun! I never end up buying anything though. Hmm...

I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it. Kudos to The Backpacker and the wonderful staff. - Rain Man "And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul." - John Muir
