Very Disappointing Portion for the Price…read more I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel I have to share it. I only ordered the catfish curry, and honestly, I was shocked by the portion size compared with the price. The amount of food was extremely small and, in my opinion, not worth what I paid, $17.50 not include tax Please see the pictures and judge for yourself. I understand that prices have gone up, but the portion should still feel reasonable for the price being charged. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously because customers deserve better value for their money.

The San Francisco Bay Area has to be one of the most vibrant food destinations on the planet…read more Within a short drive, your culinary passport can take you from Mexico to Japan, Italy to India, the Philippines to Vietnam...and today...THAILAND. No TSA. No baggage fees. No middle seat. So here we are in South San Francisco at White Elephant Restaurant, ready for a little culinary tourism. First up...Papaya Salad aka Som Tum. Fresh, crunchy green papaya, beans, and peanuts delivered that wonderful Thai balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. Crisp, tangy, refreshing...and then...HELLO CHILI PEPPER!!! A perfect wake-up call for the taste buds. While perusing the menu, however, my eyes suddenly locked onto one magical word...BACON. Wait...BACON?!?!? Enter the Prawn Rolls...bacon-wrapped prawns tucked inside wonton wrappers, golden-fried and served with sweet chili sauce. Whoever decided prawns needed to be wrapped in bacon, wrapped AGAIN in wonton skin, and dropped into hot oil...I salute you. Crispy outside, juicy inside, smoky from the bacon, then sweet and spicy from the chili sauce. Every bite soothed my gushing taste buds!!! Apparently, bacon speaks fluent Thai. Next came the Basil Fish which was a medley of golden-fried snapper fillets sautéed with basil, garlic, onions, bell peppers, and chilies in a spicy red sauce. The fish remained crisp outside and tender inside, while the basil, garlic, peppers, and chilies created this wonderful aromatic combination of savory, spicy goodness. Soooo goooood!!! But you can't dine at a Thai restaurant without ordering curry and I'm pretty sure that's somewhere in the international dining rulebook. Our Red Curry with Beef arrived simmering with beef, bamboo shoots, basil, bell peppers, and coconut milk. One spoonful...and there it was. That wonderful velvety richness of coconut milk balancing the curry's heat and umami depth with subtle sweetness. Rich without becoming heavy, spicy without requiring emergency assistance. You GOTTA order this one. And don't forget the rice! The Crab Fried Rice mingled succulent crab meat with fragrant jasmine rice, delivering sweet crab flavor among beautifully seasoned grains. It wasn't merely a side dish. It was the supporting actor stealing scenes from the movie. Finally...Thai Mango Sticky Rice. Sweet ripe mango, chewy glutinous rice, coconut milk, and coconut cream. After an evening of sweet, sour, salty, spicy, crispy, garlicky, and bacony goodness, this dessert arrived like a massage therapist saying..."You've had a long evening. I'll take it from here." Sweet, creamy, tropical, and refreshing. Overall: 5 stars. The Som Tum woke up the palate. The Prawn Rolls proved bacon improves international diplomacy. The Basil Fish delivered crispy, spicy goodness. The Red Curry with Beef brought coconut-rich comfort. The Crab Fried Rice satisfied, and the Mango Sticky Rice landed the plane. White Elephant has been part of the South San Francisco dining landscape for more than 20 years, and I hope we're eating here for another 20. Culinary passport stamped. Bacon discovered. Curry consumed. Taste buds satisfied. Come hungry...and Go Big!!!

It's a decent local Thai spot, but I did find the food to be average. It was good but underwhelming. What we ordered: Pad Thai Papaya Salad Eggrolls Mango Sticky Rice FOOD: 7/10 The food was fine overall, but nothing really stood out this time. It just didn't have that wow factor that makes me want to come back right away. It's good in a pinch if you're nearby and craving Thai food, but not super memorable compared to other spots in the Bay. SERVICE: 8/10 Service was fine and standard. The lady who served us was very nice. AMBIANCE: 7/10 The restaurant itself is casual and comfortable, with a simple, neighborhood Thai spot feel. I did really like the artwork and paintings throughout, as well as the small shrine they have, which added character and authentic culture to the space. The lighting pieces were also a nice touch. Overall, White Elephant is an okay go-to if you're nearby and want something quick and familiar, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way for.

(Add a shot of vodka $4)" ** This drink was pretty & purple, but it was very sweet for me. If we come back, I'd have to adjust the sweetness level, if that's even possible. The vodka was 24% vs. 40% proof due to their limited liquor license. 4/5 BRUSSELS SPROUTS AND FRIES ~ "Fried Brussels sprouts and French fries served with pesto mayo dipping." ** It came piping hot, and both the Brussels sprouts and fries were lightly crispy! But the pesto mayo didn't quite have a strong pesto flavor. Still, it's a good starter! 4/5 "HAT YAI" FRIED CHICKEN AND VANILLA WAFFLES ~ "Southern of Thailand-Style fried chicken and vanilla waffles, served with fresh fruit and maple syrup." ** Chicken was hot and crunchy, while the waffle was soft. I actually waited to try the waffles because the amount of delicious chicken on top was amazingly generous! Everything was beautifully prepared and presented, with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, seasonal fruit, and a side of maple syrup for dipping. 5/5 CRISPY CHICKEN BENEDICT ~ "Crispy chicken, poached eggs, pesto mayo and hollandaise sauce." ** The 2 eggs were done perfectly oozy! The chicken couldn't hold its crispy crunchiness with the eggs Benedict on top. However, it was still yummy! 4/5 Definitely IG-worthy! Service was top-notch, and the food was about a 4.5-star rating for the dishes we ordered. Now I understand why they were super busy when this spot opened! Overall, we enjoyed our entrees and thought it was one of the better brunch spots we've been to thus far. Glad we got the chance to try it!

The Fleet week and SF Tech Week Edition:…read more San Francisco has to be the best city in America. The diversity and the neighborhoods in SF make America better. Born and Raised in SF and growing up in the Mission you make friends with every nationality. You will see all kinds of restaurants serving food from all seven continents. There is one restaurants in the back streets of the Mission District which has lots of characters and it's serves delicious Thai cuisine. In this area you only use to see people wearing suits only on a Sunday but now you see people wearing suits on a weekday walking around. It's located on Florida ( not the state) street and it's called Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine. On a Fleet Week and SF Tech week stroll I landed on Florida ( not the state) street. When it comes to Thai food I always like trying dishes with seafood. Most restaurants by the water serve seafood that can be bland and stale in SF. Some try to squeeze the life out of a lemon and lime and it still tastes more sour. One thing you can do to change the taste is to put some different flavor on it. Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine offers a seafood plate called the Run Juan Seafood Sizzling and it's exactly the seafood answer for Don Juan . The Run Juan was a bit spicy with the spicy curry paste and jalapeños with and it came with an assortment of different seafood which included shrimp, scallops, calamari, and Manila clams. It wasn't salty like some in SF. I also had the Tom Kha soup which was not too sour like some in SF. I was looking for the purple rice but they had the blue rice which is good to have for Fleet week in honor of the Blue Angels. I washed all down with a purple colored Anchan Limenade. Some things in the Mission has changed and those days are "gone"but one thing won't change is the love of the Mission and for San Francisco by "Don Juan" because the Mission in the city still has it going "on" so go the Farmhouse and enjoy a Thai seafood dish called "Run Juan" Walking the streets of the Mission at night back in the days you had to be "cautious" because the ones who got targeted were the "softest" the Farmhouse is located on the Florida street where the "loft is"and lots of people demand for Run Juan but I am not currently running for "office"

I had suspected the portions would be small but it was literally one order split into 2 boxes and they called it bogo. This is a scam promotion. I could even forgive the scam portion size if the food was good but it was not good. Pad Thai noodles were hard and undercooked. There were some tofu, pork, bean sprouts cooked in but barely any peanuts and no lemon on the side. It was a very sad pad Thai. The pad see ew was even worse. When I opened the box, it was soooooo pale looking. The noodles were barely flavored and there were barely any toppings. I didn't really find much egg in the dish and only a few broccoli and pork were tossed in. This was honestly some of the worst Thai food I've had.
