You see, there are those like myself whose predicament is one where a Dr's proficiency, and humanity is the key distinguishing factor between a life of suffering or a sustained quality of life- I am so blessed. I have a real support system. My review is for those who like myself are looking for help; I have never had any other doctor like Dr. Unger. He has far exceeded my expectations- and I live a quality life I never imagined. Thank you to his wife, and office manager, Lisa, and to Layla, they are amazing- the whole office!!!!!

I have worked and been educated in 7 large institutions across the United States working with professors of all walks of life. I work as a consultant with Dr. Unger and interact with him regularly but in a different sub-specialty. I know him to be one of the most caring and thorough clinicians I have ever met. His history, resume, expertise and personality are outstanding. He has gone out of his way to write to textbooks on the management of diabetes. I have met several people who have done this, none of them have the aptitude and kind personality that Dr. Unger has. When I receive a referral from him, I receive an informed history that is certainly the most thorough and relevant to the particular question we are aimed to ask of any available. I know many primary care physicians, Dr. Unger is the most interested and attentive of any I have met. Every referral comes with a detailed letter. When I receive referrals from other institutions and individuals, it is up to me to seek for further information and this is often done at a great time investment on my part. There have been instances in which I will call him without any foreknowledge, I will mention a patient's name and he will be able to recall, in detail, all recent events, labs, and other features of the patient without any reference to a medical chart. I don't know anyone who can do this. When I interact with others, I am invariably asked to hold momentarily while they search through their charts to receive a mental update. This isn't exactly a sign of poor performance for others, in fact is is reasonable, but the fact that Dr. Unger is able to accurately describe in many unprompted details the situation cannot be understated. I believe it is a reflection of his attention. It is not distracted, he has the appropriate energy in the right place. Needless to say he knows his patients very well, he interacts with them outside his clinic hours regularly, he always knows what I am doing for them as we work together. I have never met a primary care physician so exhaustively involved in a patient's medical care. When other patients come to my clinic expressing concern about their current primary care provider, Dr. Unger the first thought to come to mind. I have been through this experience many times. Inevitably I receive a telephone call from the patient I referred to him with very positive thoughts, the overwhelming majority are highly satisfied.

The RN evaluator is also caring, friendly and very capable. If family is involved and communicates they are willing to work with you for the care of the patient. The housekeeping staff is friendly and kind and always want to help. My mom needed doctor appointments and transportation and this was all arranged by the hardworking social worker. She handles the care meetings and coordinates care as if she was a case manager. She handles the hair salon and even additional nursing attention as needed. She walks around and checks in on patients. At discharge she handled all the needed items for home care and worked hard to advocate for my mom. Admission staff was awesome. They were very welcoming and made sure she had coverage with her insurance. They are great to work with. The doctor that oversees the facility was not easy to communicate to in part due to her availability. She is a full time doctor seeing patients in her office during the day. She made an effort to call back after hours but my own schedule also got in the way. It would be best if the doc attended the care meetings upon admission so goals and care can be discussed clearly. It was difficult to pinpoint care plans. Staff would send message to doc that family want to discuss care and it was hard to receive info back quickly or at all. Maybe if the doc was present at limited but fixed hours on site it would help. PT/OT was good and made an honest and persistent effort to assist recovery. It helps if family is involved and asks questions regularly. My mom was independent prior to her medical issue so the goal was set to return her as close to that as possible. You have to make it known to them where she was before very clearly. Otherwise she may be released too early and becomes a fall risk. The food staff is very nice and concerned. They made an effort to give her Greek yogurt often for her digestion. The food is otherwise not very tasty or presentable and comes from the main facility. I'm sure the quality in Claremjnt Manor assisted living is better than in the rehab unit. My mom ate mostly in her room and so could not ask for extra items from the kitchen as those in the dining room. The dining room was filled with behabing persons that need assistance eating and this was hard to see for her to see while eating. She is a social person otherwise. I would definitely recommend this facility. They have helped her recover through 4 events in the past year and a half. No place is perfect but Claremont manor care center does a great job. They want to help and truly care. We are lucky to have them in Claremont.
