Carmen also took the time to alert us to a potential issue with my mom's medical insurance that could have impacted her continued stay and care at Heritage Park after the first week. Understanding how sensitive and life changing this situation was for our family, especially concerning my mom's overall well being, Carmen approached everything with genuine care and professionalism. She helped us clearly understand the potential impact and guided us through possible solutions. At Hathaway, I believe I was misdiagnosed, mismedicated, mistreated, and threatened. Hathaway's medical director is an endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes. He is not an addiction psychiatrist. He was reckless and dangerous in his treatment of me and lied both to my parents and psychologist about my course of treatment and the status of my well-being. When I was at Hathaway, chaos was the norm and daily operations occurred in a haphazard manner. When I requested my medical records, it took two and a half years and state intervention for Hathaway to finally comply. Hathaway caused me harm. People entering a treatment center are often experiencing the worst moment of their lives and taking the first crucial step toward making a change. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. My experience at Hathaway was the very opposite of that.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I arrived at Cedar House this morning and the people…read morein the lobby who did the intake were nice. Then I got taken back met with medical dropped my bags off with the guards/employees in the center pod and then I was shown to my room. It was a room with four beds, the bedding was literally worse than what you get in prison. There was an open shared closet, with graffiti MS-13 gang tags. There was a restroom that was shared with the room next-door, which was disgusting. I then met with a therapist and he was OK but didn't seem to care much and then a loud overhead announcement such as a lockdown was announced for everyone to return to their rooms. I wasn't inside there more than 30 minutes before this happened. The whole place on the inside was literally just like a prison, except the rooms had doors instead of bars. The guys inside this place easily 80% of them look like gang bangers, thugs, knuckleheads, or crackheads and it was loud as heck in there. The therapist, noticing my education and background even told me I should watch out who I hang with and to try and find someone more like me in there. I'm sorry, but rehab should feel like a safe space not a place where I should feel worried about being attacked by some young punk in my sleep, or just for looking at him wrong. So I went to the center pod knocked on the door, and when the employee answered I told him I was not staying and I would like my stuff. The guy grabbed my stuff and handed it to me and started laughing as I was headed out. If you are a normal person in society, who has an addiction, I would seriously recommend finding somewhere else to rehab. This place is a joke and it's not even funny.

My 5-yr old BFFs mom is here working on herself by using this program. This place is a non-smoking…read moreresidential (phase based) long-term rehab facility with many alumni as staff. Women and men have separate buildings. For us it's a hour drive, which means, Mom is away from people, places, and things. The program requires visitors to attend one-hour training sessions about drug abuse and relapse, before we can visit. Anything we bring (food or cigarettes, etc. is checked before being allowed into the buildings. It's not a secure facility, as visitors are not searched, and we can bring togo box, or fast food from nearby restaurants. But IVRS does have a disciplinary system for residents. On different weekends, visitors must attend a total of four classes; once completed, we can escort our "resident" off campus on a "pass" with a pre-approved time limit. Long enough for dinner and a movie, or shopping, etc. Passes are granted based on the client's adequate progress in treatment, etc., so both escort and resident have to be in good standing. They have adequate literature for anyone to understand what's expected of them. Plenty of parking for our Sunday visits, and IVRS has its own on-campus volley ball and playground for visiting and/or resident kids. This place is no joke. The people here are serious about recovery and they have a high rate of success. A resident can work on themselves while here, and find support in job hunt, living arrangements, etc. Well recommended, we will return to engage in the family support role AMAP.
