My girlfriend surprised me with the gift of a practice recurve bow and arrows for my 40th birthday! Knowing that this was my favorite new hobby and that I'd already spent a small fortune on renting equipment, it was time for her to make a commitment and put a bow in this hand!! Keeper! I told her that Pacifica might have the size of equipment that I need (I'm tall, so I need abnormally long bow and arrows) , and it's close to town. I'd been there once to shoot at their practice space. And away we went to fulfill my birthday prophecy. It was a Saturday. One day before my birthday...... We met with a salesman that was honest with me about my needs and we settled on poundage and length. Got me fitted with a longbow for practice and found some aluminum shafts that he'd have made up into arrows in a couple days. I ordered 6. We bought the bow and arrows and I was happy to finally have everything that I needed for practicing the sport that I love. I call on a Tuesday afternoon to ask if my arrows were ready. I figured that giving them 4 days to get it done would be enough. The lady on the phone told me "We don't have them. Did you already pick them up?" I said no. She then told me that my arrows were SOLD to someone else!!! The arrows that my girlfriend had already purchased for my birthday, sold to someone else??!! Yeah, that's what happened. So I asked if they could fix this for me? She said that she was sorry and that she would call me back. I waited about 2 hours before I called back. She answered and kept me on hold for a while. Then she said that they could have some made for me and upgraded for no charge. They would be ready Wednesday night. I was kinda bummed because I'd have to wait another day, but whatever. At least this would be done and over with. I called on Wednesday after work to make sure that they were ready for me to pick up, and the same lady talked to me and told me that she would find out and call me back. An hour goes by..... nothing. I call them back and she says that she can get some started now and will be ready by close. I told her that I don't have time tonight to do this, so I will pick them up Friday evening when I can get there after work. Now I'm really annoyed. Dumb things seem to be happening here and I just want to forget them and get my arrows and be done with it. I should've taken the hint. I call Friday afternoon. I'm excited and I'm getting out early to go get my arrows. I went and called again and ruined my mellow. Same lady, same lame reply that my arrows aren't ready. I then told her that this isn't acceptable and that I'll be coming by later to see what is going on. She apologized and told me that for sure they would be ready tonight and that I should just come down. I told her that this will have been going on for a 6 days now. The next day was Saturday, could she please have them ready for me to pick up first thing in the morning. She said of course. Frazzled, I hung up and waited to finally be done with all of this on Saturday. 7 days after ordering and paying for the arrows, and who knows how long since the arrows that I owned were sold from underneath me, I call the shop again. Same lady, and, yes, the same lame answer "They aren't ready, can you come by tonight?" I said that I am coming down now, I'll be there in an hour. I want my arrows or my money back. She said that they would be ready. I get there 40 min later, I walk in and ask the young lady at the desk for my arrows. Yep, not done yet. I then see the guy that sold me my bow and arrows there behind the desk totally glazed over and not recognizing me. Sure sign that I should have never come to do business here. Another lady comes to me and asks me what I want. It's the one that I've been talking on the phone with. I told her my name and she kinda just shrinks away. She then talks to a guy on the floor and said that they will be made right now. Then she looks at the order sheet and realizes that the size that I need, they no longer have. "We can't do it today. We can have these ready after we order more of these size. About a month" At this point, I'm done. I asked for a refund back to my girlfriend's card. She actually says "What card?" and then tells me that the card info was turned in and she can't refund the money to the card. So I ask for cash. She talked to another guy (really annoying and condescending little weasel of a guy) and he asks me how he could help me?! He finally refunded me the money. It's too bad. It is a nice shop and they have a ton of great stuff with nice shooting lanes. I just can't ever go back to a place that sells the things that I've already bought from them. I don't even know if it's legal, but it's definitely the most annoying and disrespectful of things to ever happen to me at a pro shop. And top that off with a week of the runaround for the top of my birthday cake. Make a wish.. read more

Five questions I didn't ask, but thought about asking (some jokingly): 1. Can I put a flame on the tip like in the movies? 2. When will I be able to shoot an arrow while riding a horse? 3. Can I shoot an apple off someone's head? 4. Will an arrow stop a charging rhino? 5. Is it legal to carry a bow around in public? I got archery lessons not so long ago for the first time. While the instructor was giving a quick briefing about parts of the bow, etiquette, and how to hold the bow, questions like the ones listed above swirled through my head. I can't help the inner kid in me. Our lesson was straight forward and informative. As fast as you can yell "CLEAR!", we began firing the bows. "Clear" is a key word to inform fellow archers that it is safe to retrieve your arrows. Firing away, the instructor along with another helped me with kinks in my mechanics. Slowly I started to get it, but I was only shooting ten yards away. That's bunny slope territory. For a second, a spontaneous purchase was highly possible. They told me bows range from $150 to around $450 for the heavy duty professional stuff. That killed the idea fast. Besides their indoor range, Pacifica Archery sells bows obviously, but they also sell almost any related accessory related to archery. The workers here are extremely nice and very helpful. If you're a rookie to the unknown sport of archery like me, it's a fun hobby that's worth trying at least once. read more

My friends brought us there to have an Archery lessons. It was $20 for half an hour lesson and $20 for the other half an hour on the lane shooting which includes bow and arrow rental. However, the lesson was not throughout enough, it was basically giving us the bow and arrow, teaching us the right pose, and thats all. The little aiming assistant ball underneath the target was not too helpful. Since two people are sharing one target board, the angle are different for each person, and the height of the bow, the weight that we had to pull are all different. We were never taught about how all these factors can influence the accuracy of your shooting, how the bow size varies due to our height, nor how the pulling weight matter at all. (the weight do matter significantly, and it greatly influences the accuracy and stability of your shoot!!!) The class was straight forward, it was more like a start-up class- just giving you the bow and arrow and a lane to practice. If you are just expecting a weekend fun thing to do- This is the place for you. However, if you do have a high expectation (like me) and hope to learn as much as you could, you might have to think twice before heading there. Even if you do, do prepare to be disappointed. Another important thing is that, staffs are not as knowledgable, they are dishonest and able to keep their words. My friend was told that if he had an archery class there, he could get discount when buying the bow and arrows. The staff refused to offer such discount and say there was no such thing going on while he purchased the bow there!!! I went here with my gf for the 1 hr groupon deal. We had a great time as it was really laid back and you were basically left to shoot on your own after a super fast "lesson". The lesson was honestly a 10-min max intro on how to hold the bow and shoot the arrow along with some safety tips. The rest of the 50 min was free time where you got to shoot the target and move it around as you wish. I really liked that it was so laid back but I can see how some people might not like it as the instructor wasn't exactly going to each student correcting them or saying tips. So you won't be a katniss robin hood after the hour since you won't really know what to correct if you're super off, but it's a fun time if you just wanna shoot shit without a stuck-up attitude. read more

I decided a needed a new outdoor hobby and went for archery since I've done it before and enjoyed it. I know very little about the 'specs' of bows, and the guy was very helpful in showing me which size and strength I would need. Then... he put the bow away and went behind the counter. "Um... so.... I'd like to buy one". He said they were out of stock and they would special order it. I paid up front... and was told it would take up to 2 weeks (this was 11/11) and I would get a call when it arrived. Two weeks later.. no call. I call them Mon 11/28 since I was out of town for the weekend. They are closed Mondays so I left a message. I got a call back 2 days later from a woman (who apologized for not calling the next day) but said they misplaced the tracking number and were trying to see where my bow was. She said it would arrive Friday or Monday at the latest. Today.... 3 weeks after buying my bow I called. A guy answered, I said I was hoping my bow was ready since it had been 3 weeks. He just said "I understand.. but it just got shipped out today, it will be another 3 -5 business days." No apology, nothing. I'm pretty sure, my bow arrived, and they sold it to another customer since they already got my money... all I can do is wait. Anyways my 2 week wait is now 4. I plan to keep my bow... and buy my arrows online. An apology... and a phone call when my bow SHOULD have arrived would have saved them. I had an interesting time with the realization that I need to work out my left arm more in order to hold up the bow without moving. I actually did pretty good, 30 mins of instructions and 30 mins of shooting arrows on your own. Service was really friendly. We paid $40 for two people (one hour session). Not bad! Been shooting a bow since I was a teen. When I came back from Alaska in 1991, there was Pacifica Archery and a shop next to the GG Park archery range. Went to the other place because it was closer, but the owner passed and it changed hands and it's nowhere the size of what the owner Joe and wife Beth have here. This place has EVERYTHING! Bow: compounds, recurves, longbow. Arrows: wood, carbon, aluminum. Camoflauge, specilized quivers and packs for the field. Everything for target, bowfishing, hunting, etc. Even has a few 3D targets that a hoot to bring to GG Park. Most importantly there's a range for shooting, and trying different types of bows and more importantly to confirm your bow, if you have a compound, is properly tuned and ready to go out the door. read more

The instructors were quick to get us shooting and always suggested improvements to our aim. The overall 1 hr experience could be billed as a great way to let off steam. It's nowhere as expensive as a shooting range, but it certainly won't be inexpensive either. They sell an array of bows/accessories, and a few obvious regulars were there with their compound bows. Just checked this place out recently. We stopped by Cybelle's for lunch and spotted this place only a door or two away. My daughter had been expressing an interest in archery for some time now and we decided to walk in. Wow, this place was cool. I've been to gun shops before, but never archery shops--to tell you the truth, they seem pretty similar in some ways. You can do any kind of archery you like here, from a simple, no-frills bow for target practice, to a totally blinged-out compound bow with electronic sights, and razor sharp arrowheads tipping carbon fiber arrows for bringing down big game. I thought it was interesting just to look around this place. In addition to supplies (and they have a lot of them) they also have a large, indoor range for practice or training. This place looks so cool I may get lessons alongside my daughter when the time comes. The employees are friendly and helpful too. Check this place out. read more

We had a great experience here. My very young son really wanted to learn archery so we signed him up for a private lesson. Jerrick gave my son a 30 minute lesson. He was very patient, thorough and calm with my son. He taught safety and basic posture/stance. My kid is now obsessed. He even drew a picture of his experience at school the next day. We bought a youth bow while we were there and signed up for their rewards program. We've already earned an hour of lane time...which we'll definitely use. This place is cammo heaven! Went here with a few friends using a Groupon lesson for two. My wife didn't want to participate so I was given a "freebie" for later use. The place is divided between the store front, where bows, arrows, and accessories are available for perusal, and the Range half to test if you have elven (or dwarven) blood. Good quick lesson including safety, etiquette, handling and grouping (targeting). The rest of the hour session we spent shooting and moving the targets further back to test our skills (or lack of). I would definitely come back again to train because I noticed my elven blood seemed less and less the further away the target was. So if you're itching to know if you're related to Legolas or Katniss in any way, get acquainted with the bow and arrow before you take on Orcs or the Capital. -Not an Elf (yet) read more

Bunny purchased a Groupon for archery lessons and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical. I had mixed feelings about it. As the due date was approaching, we called to set up an appointment. We were unsure of the location, but knew it was close to Century Theatres and other familiar landmarks. As we kept driving, we saw a large sign that read Pacifia Achery and were surprised that we never noticed it before. After parking and heading inside. it's close to the start time of the class. Upon entering, you see all the bows and all the equipment needed for this sport. While getting all the necessary items and preparing for our lesson, I heard arrows being shot and people yelling, "Clear." At this point, I'm a bit nervous as to how things will be since we just signed a waiver. Then we head to the back and this is where the magic happens. It starts off with instructions and the rest of the hour, you have spare time to practice. The package deal is for one hour. After that, the next set of students come in. As I was listening and paying attention to informtion about the bow, etiquette, and how to hold the bow, question marks were in the air above my head. At first I was confused, but after demonstartions and and step by step coaching, things started to slowly make sense. That is, until it was time for me to actually hold the bow and shoot the arrow. The instructor had to switch my bow for a lighter one. We were all given five arrows and after everyone was done shooting, we would yell "Clear," so all the arrows could be retrived. My arrows would be all over the place, going to the target that was designated for another individual, going over my target board and having the arrow only go 5 feet, when the target was more than 10 feet away, I could sense the teacher and those around getting annoyed. Often times I was unable to use up all my arrows before someone yelling "Clear" in an annoyed tone, due to waiting a long time for me to finish. The teachers were all very friendly and helpful. Time went by so fast and time was up before we knew it. It was a fun afternoon, better than I had anticipated. I would like to go back to shoot some arrows. These GroupOn deals really do get you! I bought a deal to share with my boyfriend, we were just looking for something new to try out. Everything is a breeze once you walk through the door, everything went accordingly because they are completely organized. You check in at the counter, get your gears, professional lessons from the guide, practice shots, and then you're on your own for the remaining 30 minutes. They go through the different components of the bow, the arrow, your body form, and technique. Everytime you get at least 4 arrows to the colored areas, you get to move your target back a line (about 2 feet). The code word on the course is "CLEAR" that's when you know when you are open to retrieve your arrows and when you can start to shoot again. Definitely something that I can turn into a hobby and my boyfriend better watch out because I can totally "Katniss Everdeen" his ass anyday! read more

I've been holding off on reviewing this place because I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars, but I guess I'll round down to 3 because the parking situation here was terrible for us, and made us late to our reservation. Most of their parking lot is marked as parking for the gym, so there are only a few other spots that you can nab. The staff here was nice, and they let us stay an extra ten minutes after since they didn't have other committments that day. We used a zozi deal for 1/2 of instruction and 1/2 of lane time. Since we were late, the instructor launched right into the lesson, which I appreciated. He seemed knowledgeable, but was very monotone throughout the lesson and talked very slowly. His teaching style was effective, but not very inspiring. After the instruction, they bring you out to the lanes, which are all right next to each other. There isn't much room to move around, and if it's full, you'll be RIGHTNEXT to your neighbor. You also have to practice archery etiquette, and wait until everyone in the row is done firing their arrows before you're able to retrieve yours, and you also have to wait until everyone has retrieved their arrows before you can shoot. I would recommend going to the earliest class possible so that you'll have less people to wait for. Overall, I would probably come here again, but would also want to check out other archery places in the Bay Area. read more

Came here for the Groupon deal and it was a great learning experience. Our instructor was kind and patient with us rookies. Taught us all of the basics on how to properly shoot a recurve bow. The lesson lasted an hour but we had more then enough time to shoot the bow and keep practicing. This really got me interested in archery and I intend to continue with this hobby. I absolutely love this archery shop. Starting 3 & a half months ago I went in to buy my 1st bow, as I've never ever even shot a bow. But over the past couple years have gotten into the sport by watching & listening to Cameron Hanes, John Dudley, & Joe Rogan, as well as Steven Rinella. So because of all of them I swayed towards wanting a HOYT compound bow for both 3D shooting & eventually a Whitetail Hunt. So I drive 45min to Pacifica Archery at there opening time & saw how big it was, with a bunch of lanes to shoot or test out bows, as well as u can go there to practice and even for lessons. But I went in there to purchase my 1st bow ever. So i walked up to there very nice selection of all the newest releases from all the major companies like Mathews & HOYT & a couple others. With in a minute was greeted by Rudy, who helped me through every step of the way, and still till this day he helps. He's awesome, and for those of you reading this full review will agree if u've ever had the chance to meet him, he's great at archery, and very knowledgable on every detail that this amazing sport has to offer. At 1st I ended up putting in an order & paying in full for a Carbon Defiant Turbo at #55. But a month or 2 later I had watched every single Carbon Defiant YouTube video in the world, & had come to the conclusion that for my 1st bow ever I was getting too much of an aggressive let off type of bow. So after a bunch of back & forth messaging on there FaceBook page, I ended up driving back in again to make absolutely sure I was getting the right bow for me. So I went in & pulled back the TURBO at 60 pounds about 30 times. Then tried out the Defiant 34, & the 30.5 Carbon Defiant both at 60 pounds and instantly fell in love with the string angles of both the 30.5 & 34 Carbon Defiant's. Everything about them felt amazing in every way. The only reason I ended up choosing the 30.5 Carbon Defiant over the Carbon Defiant 34, is because of the slight boost in IBO speed of 331 fps, as well as it was slightly smaller & lighter the the 34, & so I pulled back the string in all 3 for over an hour, back & forth comparing, & the HOYT Carbon Defiant in the 30.5inch axle to axle bow. Rudy & the lady owner there where totally understanding in my decision to chance my already 2months in pre-order of that CarbonDefiantTURBO, to a regular Carbon Defiant. They where awesome in helping me do that. They re-measured my draw length, as well as changed my Limb/Draw weight to 55-65 pounds, and after they did that, a couple days later they got a new ETA of delivery for my updated bow order of August 3rd, which is another 4 months. But I knew I was making the right decision, so I began the wait again. Literally a week later, I get a call from Pacifica Archery, & it's Rudy, explaining to me that they got in a HOYT Carbon Defiant with my exact specs & Ridge Reaper color I wanted, that this brand new bow that was meant for someone else who canceled there purchase, they offered it to me, & I jumped at thee offer so I could start practicing & getting use to my new bow before my October deer hunting trip. So needless to say, it was a roller coaster ride of a bow buying time. & most of all, a huge Thank You to Rudy for ur patience & all ur time I took up with my noob questions. Came here to have my compound bow serviced. The guy who helped me was knowledgeable and allowed me to make decisions based on what I saw and felt vs trying to sell me the most expensive thing there. He was also honest in the pricing, I'll give him that. When it came time for advice, however, I felt like I wasn't good enough to get any pointers. I was treated as if I was stupid. I've owned my bow for 10 years, shooting for about the first 3 years of owning said bow. Since moving to the Bay Area, there has been a big lull in time I've shot due to the lack of enthusiasm (and ranges) in the area. So admitting that I was out of the game for some time, I basically felt that after my credit card was run that my presence wasn't welcomed anymore because I was asking "noob" questions. And yes I would consider myself a noob, and these guys were also noobs at one point in their life. Consideration goes a long way guys. I had given thought to the club they're associated with but me thinks not now. Not if noobs are not welcomed who might actually take this sport seriously if they found a place to belong to. I guess I'll stick to the sportsmen clubs out in the valley, at least outsiders are welcomed and I can get better advice from the guys at Bass Pro in Manteca. Oh and finally... (This has nothing to do with my rating) The parking is awful here because of the gym next door. Gym goers will be rude with you if you park in any spot labeled "PF". The experience of trying to make a reservation was so unpleasant that Groupon refunded my money despite being outside their own 7-day refund window. Very nice place for a 1st time doing archery! Make sure you arrive 15min before your appointment otherwise they'll have a little attitude when you arrive...! We had an amazing instructor, John! He took time to go thru all the safety instructions and gave us advices to correct our shots. We had a great time! One day my son decided archery will be his other hobby so I got us both a lesson just to try it out. For $35 you get 1/2 hour instruction, 1 hour lane use and equipment rental. What can I say, mom and son gets the concept pretty quickly, it was fun shooting those arrows. They check your form once in a while and give you pointers on how to be more accurate and precise on the target. After awhile they leave you to practice on your own. I pretty much figured out at the end of the hour that my arrows have high precision but low accuracy. Not bad! My son is all natural as well of course. He enjoyed it and is now ready to come back every week to polish his new found skills. Every Saturday at 10am, they have an all kids session for $17. read more

Went here for the first time today. The customer service from anyone but the head guy gets a -5 stars for sure, but the head guys is awesome enough to bring it all back up to 4 stars. Get this, a rubber feather comes off one of the 5 arrows I'm renting and I go to the counter to get another arrow. There are hundreds of arrows behind the counter and the kid, and the lady, both tell me to take a hike. Later, the head guy is shooting next to me so I ask him if this is the policy. He says it certainly is not, and he goes to get me another arrow. Simple. Next thing I know the lady is over asking my buddy and I if we need a fresh set of arrows... !! Perhaps this was a good thing and the rest of the store will learn something about customer service / keeping a hard to run business going. Anyway, if it weren't for the cool guy running the place, I wouldn't be back. Else, it's a rather big store considering it's an archery place in the Bay Area! They have everything you could need, and as others noted, it's probably marked up a bit so they can continue to keep a shop in the Bay Area for the sport. Lucky for me, I can get a jump start on training now, before the world as we know it comes to an end - right here at Pacifica Archery! Beth, the co-owner, was so friendly and helpful. The store is a one-stop shop for all your archery needs - everything from equipment, outfitting and repairs (in case you break your bow trying to use it to impale zombies instead of using the arrows). You can bet that I'll be back (in fact, today!) to perfect my aim - now if only they could construct some zombie-like targets that shuffle back and forth for target practice!! I wasn't planning on trying my hand at the ancient, esteemed art of archery that sunny Saturday afternoon. I thought we'd grab a bite to eat, stroll in a park, and so I dressed accordingly in a lovely white sundress. Imagine my surprise when we pulled up in front of a nondescript building, and walked in to find horned heads adorning the wall. I was nervous, I'll admit. Who was I to pretend I knew what I was doing? Sure, the arrows had no sharp tips, but still! If there was a way to get hurt, lord knows I'd find it. Not to mention that I was the only chick in the place, in a very girly dress, and that as I fumbled my first set of five arrows, everyone had to wait for me to finish. Their patience knew no bounds though, newcomers truly are welcome here. By about the third round of arrows, I had my form down and felt like I was incredibly cool. And moments later, what should happen...BULLSEYE! Granted it was only 10 yards away but it felt like the coolest thing ever. A few more bullseyes followed that and left me happy and satisfied...and more than hooked. Every draw back of the bow made me feel like Artemis or Keira Knightley, and I pictured a future for myself as a crack shot in the archery tournament world. Who's to say if it'll happen or not? Regardless it was an enjoyable way to spend $20 for an hour of entertainment. The staff was helpful, particularly the gentleman, although if I hadn't gone with an experienced friend I think I would have been lost. Their indoor range is kind of small BUT I can't find too many indoor ranges in the Bay Area, and you know how the weather goes. Whether or not I ever win any tournaments, I will be back. read more

Dam it! If i only known sooner this place existed, I could have fulfilled my life's goal -- to become an elf. I visited Pacifica Archery a few months ago randomly one day. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. They only charged me 20 for an hour, which also included a rental -- sweet. My previous exp in archery paid off, for I didn't have to pay for a quick lesson. The other archers are also friendly and always willing to give you pointers. On a neg note -- they have one weird staff member, more like a hobbit, that seemed to annoy and irritate the customers. hehe! read more

We've been shooting here for the past few years through their youth program and just realized we never left a review. Can't say enough awesome things about Pacifica Archery, their staff, and Coach Rudy! I'm glad they were our introduction into archery! Staff is knowledgeable and patient with questions and advice on when to upgrade equipment. The indoor range is also a great alternative to outdoor shooting and it's fairly easy to reserve lanes outside of events. Highly recommend! Friend called in for reservation and talked on the phone and was quoted a price for archery lessons. We ended up paying a lot more than what was told. All three of us felt cheated because everyone else in our group just left without paying, there were 2 couples in our lesson group who were waiting behind us to pay but when they heard our discussion with the register guy and heard the price they just up and left. It felt very unorganized, and even the other cash register guy felt reluctant to charge us, he even made a few comments that sounded like we were in the right. We felt cheated for doing the right thing, we easily could've walked out like the other customers did. Wouldn't come back here, they lost would be good customers. read more

My initial impression was that there were too many students for the number of instructors. The first brief and instruction was quick, and left my two 11 y/o's behind. Instruction was decent for the first 20min, and the remaining hr was just "phoned in". Maybe this is a "group-on" instruction mill?! Kids spent 30 min shooting, with no instruction, or pointers. Pathetic! I'll go somewhere else with my time and money next time. read more

I went to here yesterday to spend what I thought would be a quick afternoon with my archery lessons. I was so incredibly wrong. I stayed till closing time. I am officially addicted. The afternoon started with my lesson. Robert was incredibly chill and patient and gave me some good pointers about shooting. Then after he corrected my form and thought I wasn't a danger to society, he cut me loose on the range and let me shoot. Practice makes perfect you know. So apparently I'm a quick learner and before you know it I was pushing the target further and further back. Well that's when Elmer stepped in. (I think he's a regular there vs. an employee.) He was really cool and gave me more tips to refine my technique. Then Beth (Awesome Boss Lady) steps in and watches me as well. She decides that I need different arrows since the flight path was a tad wobbly and she thought it might be due to the clips not biting onto the string. So she gets me different arrows and lets me use this amazing bow. My goodness, what a difference indeed. I continue shooting with Elmer, Beth and Leo giving me sound advice the entire time. They were extremely chill throughout the entire experience. before you know it, I had been shooting basically non stop for about 4 hours. even Leo had to ask, "Aren't you tired???" Um no.... its addicting I didn't even notice I had been shooting that long until they had to close the place down. All in all it was a fantastic experience. I also took advantage of the living social deal and had a great time! We got lucky and ended up with a private lesson then about 45 minutes to just shoot. By the time I left I was shooting pretty strong groupings. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and the mostly supportive and mellow staff. (There was one guy there that looked like he was about to have a stress meltdown at any moment...) Parking can be tough, so car pool if you can! read more

The upsides are: They have a large stock, which is great as you can try out a number of bows before buying. There is a very nice indoor range which is wonderful if it's raining or too foggy at the Pacifica or Golden Gate Park outdoor ranges. The target bales are not straw. This is nice since straw bales can ruin your vanes when the centers get shot out and the vanes get mangled as the arrow passes all the way through the straw. They offer rentals and storage, which is great if you don't want to be a equipment monster (someone who is carrying so much crap that they knock over stuff around them). It's nice to have a repair facility right at the range. You don't need to bring your tool box, just your wallet. If they sell it to you, they stand behind it. They will install what they sell. The downsides: The indoor range is only 20 yards. You don't want to shoot more than three arrows at one bull or you will eventualy add to the collection of Robin Hoods they have. You will pay for it. They charge a premium for the convenience and their (very good) service. read more

It was easy to make a reservation here. My boyfriend and I had to wait a while to get our equipment because there were people who were seriously looking at bows (to BUY), which was fine because we got there kind of early. The people before us ran over, so the attendant extended our time to make sure we got to shoot for a full hour. They gave basic training to newbies, but since we had both shot before, we just went for it. My one gripe is that they kind of hovered and corrected us (and everyone else). I sort of wish they had just let us shoot, although I have to admit that their tips were helpful. Overall, this is a fun new thing to try and Pacifica Archery is a great place to try it. read more

Went to Pacifica Archery today. guys, seriously, if you want to go shoot a bow for an hour (trust me that's all it takes to get a full upperbody workout), and it's also cheap. u get a half hour pro lesson, and half an hour to shoot afterwards in their indoor field for $35. if you already know how to shoot and just want to rent a bow and field, then $20. if you already have the bow, then $12 for the field. i highly recommend. the family that runs this place is very very nice and patient and they give tons of helpful hints after your lesson, and they definitely let you know when u are doing well. They told me today after i went for an hour and a half that next time when i come in, i only pay $20/h, and they'll give me plenty of pointers and such FOR FREE as i shoot. When you're there, you really get the feeling like they're not trying to get your money, but rather that their goal is RETURN BUSINESS... which is actually good and professional of them. They don't charge an arm and a leg but they get you back there ASAP! to compare, here is a Literal copy/paste off of Cupid's Gate Archery, which is the only other place in the area where you can rent equipment and get lessons: Fees: $85 for each 2-hour coaching session - Olympic worthy archery equipment provided; $85 for each 2-hour session of personal Olympic style recurve bow tuning services; ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you look at the cost for a coaching session, for the Same Amount of Time (let's go with 2 hours since Cupid's Gate goes by that) It will cost $85 at Cupid's Gate and it will cost $60 at Pacifica. Pacifica Archery is an indoor archery range in the downtown area. I went there today for an archery demonstration and practice session. My instructor was great. He was very hands-on, ensuring I had the right posture the right bow grip, the right release, everything! I went from shooting arrows onto other people's targets to having excellent groupings of my own. I even had a bullseye. My only regret is that the actual range is small. I will gladly return during the week when it's not as crowded. read more
