It was our first time into this range, and we had such a blast that we're considering becoming a member, and grabbing our own gears! The staff are all amazing, and they are very passionate and knowledgeable, so you're never left feeling like you're at it alone, should you need more help and teaching. We came in on a Sunday morning for their 10AM outreach class that went over safety information, instructions on how to hold a bow and positioning of your body, and types of commands, to listen to, that are given out when you're on the range. I believe our instructor's name was Jack, and he was so informative and patient with us. After spending 30 minutes with him, we were fitted for our gear, and led to the range to begin practicing. If you are unsure or your form needs some adjustments, the staff members are always nearby or behind observing everyone. This range has walkable trails that are available to members, but their practicing range gives you a taste of how well-kept the site is. They do have outhouses for restrooms, and parking is free. We were able to enjoy our morning out for just $5 - SCORE! Their website provides ample amount of information regarding hours of operation, outreach program info, and upcoming events at the range. have come here twice now for their outreach program, where you can learn to shoot with no prior experience for just $5. the first visit, you need to go through a safety briefing which is a bit on the long side, but does a good job of walking through technique too. there are 2 sessions, 9am and 10:30am, every 1st/3rd sunday, first come first serve; they seem to fill up at varying rates each week, and you can stay to shoot longer during the 10:30 session if it doesnt fill up. if you are returning, you dont have to do the safety briefing again which allows you to shoot for much longer. there's a bunch of friendly volunteer staff around who kindly offer tips on how to improve / answer any questions you have. overall a very well run system that provides a wonderful learning opportunity / fun activity to the community :) read more

I'm in the East Bay so I'm not on this side of the bridge as much, but I happened to be in Pacifica for a friend's bday, so I decided to try out SF Archers in advance. Unlike some of the other outdoor ranges/field courses that are unstaffed, this spot had several very nice volunteers onhand who checked in folks and made sure newbies (like myself) knew all the rules and how to traverse the course, etc. They also had a couple different ranges (a typical multi-distance range, a long distance range, and a kiddie range), where folks can warm up before hitting the course(s). I did the "white" course, which had your typical variation of targets, distances, elevations, and slopes. There's a target that has the option of shooting at from 80 yards over a pond (lake?), which is fun if you don't mind losing an arrow or two lol. Honestly the whole course was a joy, and I was lucky that i got to experience it on a pretty day. You should check the website calendar to make sure they're open the day you want to go. So this is my hang out, I come here to get away from everything. It's a little tricky to find, but well worth the effort. If you are not a member there is a separate parking lot located when you drive in, you have to cross a little foot bridge to get to the practice range. Sign In. Pay your five dollar day use fee. Stuff it into the yellow tube. I use a stick to shove it into the tube . It's all about having a good , safe time here. When you are shooting at the practice range , you work as a group . Once a fellow archer is done with there number of arrows and sees that everyone else is done , they will yell clear. Look before you proceed, Then go and get your arrows from your target. Wait before everyone gets back before you pick up your bow. Now if you have that done, they also have 50 acres in the back where you can shoot . The red and white range. Both have 20 + targets . They both differ, distance, upward or downward. If I am not mistaken the Red range allows you to shoot across a small lake into a bale . All bales have targets. Distance are marked , They even have distance for novice shooters. (cub) . I shoot only one range red or white per day. I am tired by the end of the day. People are friendly here, ( I have run into a few who weren't , but everyone is allowed to have a bad day. ) I just move on. That is the thing about this place , you can just move on. Wildlife is here too, I see deer, rabbits and quail on the property. They even have an arrow collection bin , so if you find an arrow you place it back in the bin. I have found several of my arrows. Best place to shoot arrows outdoor in the Bay Area. Although there is a free range in Golden Gate Park, I like to take my family of 4 to Pacifica and shoot at San Francisco Archers. They got a little something for everyone. For starters, the place is huge. There is an area with two targets for little kids or shy archers who wants be away from the main area full of targets. The main area have multiple targets of various distance from 15 ft to 50+ft. Finally, there are not one but multiple trails also with a number of varied distanced targets. Everyone is friendly, everyone is helpful. SF Archers is ran by a nonprofit volunteer organization that promotes archery at all levels. Cost is a donation of $5 per person, kids optional, to maintain targets and the grounds. Well worth it! Give SF Archers, you won't regret it! read more

This was my first time here. The entire site is managed by volunteers who love the sport and they have done a great job maintaining the land. There are 4 areas: 1 child range, 2 trails and 1 beginners area where we were. This was a corporate event so we were all given a lesson and then allowed to practice. Our instructor, Jack, was brilliant. Patient, clear and encouraging. He was a wealth of knowledge and, I must say, has given me a solid beginner's foundation to archery. I visited the range for a short amount of time and fell in love with it immediately. While I was there was able to hassle a volunteer for some information about the club and he was very friendly towards me. Definitely the kind of people I would love to be in the same club with. What I love most about this range is the location. The range itself is a little ways in from the main roads and the road to it gets bumpy and narrow at times but I would say that's about all the bad things I have to say. The area is so green and there is a lot of tree coverage. If I were to move to the area for good I would definitely be making this my club. read more

Felt very uncomfortable in this cliquish club. Snooty and disrespectful while shooting. Absolutely no field etiquette, though they extol their rules & virtues like a baseball bat. Talking "at" me while I shot. One guy was telling me how to shoot the right way. But got quiet after my first 3 ends. (he couldn't recognize my bow) It was my first time shooting there and they didn't know me. I just wanted to quietly shoot. Since when do archers yack and yack? I thought Archers are quiet? No name introductions but a lot of nosey personal questions. When I'd go to retrieve my arrows, some of the regulars would touch my bow... Funny when I picked up the one guys bow he got upset. Strange how when I treated him the way he treated me he got all upset. Probably because at 30 meters my arrows were a tight group in the 8-9-10 rings. Gotta love my Hoyt Epik with Carbon X-Tour 50# Limbs in barebow mode dressed out in Spider, Beiter, Spigarelli, Avalon, Win&Win ACS, 60X string in BCY X for speed and power. Tested the 2 dozen Easton X10's in 350 spine, And the Easton Super Drives in 400 spine. Bothe sets of arrows with Tungsten points... I will never go to this redneck place again. There are better ranges in the bay area that have a greater welcoming brotherhood of archery and hospitality. There are also ranges that are much much cleaner, sunnier with no fog. There were other Asians there but they were quiet and said nothing to help. As a senior citizen, I felt my safety was more important, so I packed up and left. This past Sunday, a couple of my family members and I got together to take part in San Francisco Archer's Outreach Program which occurs every 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. We always like to try new activities that neither of us have done before and our Archery outing was definitely an awesome experience. San Francisco Archers Outreach program is open to the public free of charge to take advantage of a little introductory archery lesson between the hours or 9am-12pm on Sundays. I've never done archery before so I had no idea what to expect. I had a feeling I wasn't going to be very good at aiming at the targets accurately. But to my surprise, after a quick individualized lesson with an instructor, I stopped aiming at the carpet and haystacks that hold up the targets and actually made it onto the target. *Yay* Lol. The introductory lesson is great because it starts off with a general pow-wow by one instructor, and then you get broken up into groups of 3-4 people with an individual instuctor. So you defintitely get great personalized information to help get you into the sport of archery. I definitely recommend folks try out the SF Archers Outrearch program every other Sunday for a little free lesson into archery! The San Francisco Archers is the club that runs the archery range located in Sharp Park, in Pacifica. The range is run on donations of money and labor. They ask for a 5 dollar donation to shoot all day for non-members, under 13 free. The Archery Outreach Program is free for everyone. It is normally on the first and third Sundays of the month from 9 to noon. Please check their website (http://sfarchers.org/calendar/) to check if there are any fund raising events that may preempt the Outreach Program. The Outreach Program is suspended around December and starts up again around March due to generally crappy winter weather. See their website (http://sfarchers.org/contact-us/) for directions and make sure you follow them! If you don't know exactly how to get there, you will end up at Skyline College or somewhere in Pacifica wondering what the heck happened... They have a competition field, practice areas and two field courses (Red and White). The White and Red Courses will give you a nice workout as you huff it from one paper target to another. Many of the club members are some of the nicest folks around. They love beginners and bend over backwards to help people starting out. Sharp Park itself is owned by the City and County of San Francisco and the property is considered a City Park, which is why everything is painted that City Park Green. It is open pretty much every day of the year. However it's a good idea to check the club's schedule since they host several events a year. Things like regional & championship competitions, novelty shoots like the BC Shoot (Dinosaurs and other prehistoric themed targets), etc. Groups like the SCA also routinely reserve parts of the range for functions. My boyfriend and I have been shooting at an indoor range and were looking for a new (and cheaper) environment. SF Archers was a great spot for this. Given recent storms a lot of the ranges were closed so we only shot at the practice range at the entrance, but we were greeted by kind volunteers happy to chat with us and give us newbies all the details. You sign in, and it's $5 per person for the whole day. $60 for an annual membership. They provided targets, and there is resting equipment along the firing line. You can tell the place is being run as a labor of love. One lady that seemed to be involved in the administration was just chilling and whittling a new bow. Like, from scratch. I was in awe. They host lessons on some Sundays, we're gonna see how that goes. Now be warned, it's definitely grassroots, this place is not super polished. There are portapotties for bathrooms. But the people are kind, very down to give advice on your form, and it's a deal to get to shoot as long as you want. Can't wait to go back. read more

I think I got in touch with my inner hunter the other day. My friends and I paid $5 to use the range here. We shot at 30~70 meters at paper animal targets. It was a lot of fun and a workout since no real animals were hurt in the process. The staff and volunteers here are really nice and offered advice for a new hunter such as myself. Most of the staff who hang out here are retired men and women who are knowledgeable in the sport of archery. It was a bit out of my way to get here, but it is best to spend half a day here to check out the walking range. Remember to wear some good hiking boots too! read more

This is a fun place to go shoot on weekends. I'm not a big archer, I do it occasionally with friends. The trail to shoot on is great for an easy hike as well. Why 4 stars and not 5? There are some things that can improve here like the targets are often missing for 1/3rd of them. The trail is slippery when it's slightly wet. Some targets are inaccessible. Summary: EXCELLENT! Pros: FUN!! Knowledgeable staff Outdoors in a beautiful setting Inexpensive Cons: None! We wanted to do a team building event for work and found San Francisco Archers (SFA). We were a mix of men and women, and since none of us were experienced archers, we arranged for a private group introductory lesson. SFA provided an instructor, equipment, shooting range, over two hours of shooting - all for $20 per person! For this price, you might expect it to be a bit schlock, but no way, this was top notch all the way around. Instructor - We were lucky enough to get Jack as our instructor. He was a history professor in his earlier life and knew how to teach. He spent about 30 minutes introducing us to the history of, equipment, proper technique, and safety for archery, all in a very personable style. Then, he spent the next two hours working with us to improve our skills. He was excellent. Equipment - SFA had a variety of equipment (bows, arrows, protective equipment, etc.) for us to use and try. It was all in very good condition, and the staff helped us select the bows that worked best for us. For rental equipment for our first time out, it all seemed perfect. Shooting range - Our group got taken to the upper 100-yarder range. It was a beautiful, private setting for our outing. It was great. There is another range near the entrance and two 'golf course like' ranges that we didn't see. Next time. Overall, we had a great time. With Jack's instruction, it was a matter of minutes before we were all hitting the target with regularity. Then, it was a matter of improving our technique, increasing our range, and having a friendly competition amongst ourselves. Our entire group agreed that it was more fun and a better experience than we had imagined. Two thumbs up - way up - for SF Archers!! UNLEASH YOUR INNER ROBIN HOOD AND JUST GO DO IT. IT'S A BLAST. For $5, you can get a crash course in the basics of archery/safety on the range, equipment to shoot with, and members to help you with your form! I wish I knew the name of the Instructor who taught us. He was a very kind and good instructor - all I know was that he was a history teacher, even got his Masters in History, and has been working at SF Archery for 15 years. This fun day is thanks to him and the hard working volunteers who helped make us Archers by the end of the session. BEST: Cost If you go anywhere else, instructors or 1-2 hour classes can run about $25-$35 with only a minimal chance of shooting about 50 arrows in one session. At SF Archer it is $10.00 if you don't own your own bow and arrows(you sign with the people in the office), and $5.00 if you do (you sign a yellow box on the outside) and you shoot quite a bit of arrows! Location: Outdoors! Most ranges aside from Golden Gate Park are indoors. I am guessing the market is for birthday parties, beginners, or just people who want to shoot indoors, but what's the fun in that?? According to the instructor, archery has been around since 30,000 B.C. so it deems weapon of choice. Why not shoot and breath the fresh air at the same time! The shooting targets are not just in the front, but all around the trails summing to about 21 targets or more. The place the targets at different ranges for good practice. There are 2 portapotty for bathrooms. There are large picnic tables. Instructors & volunteers: They teach you how to hold the bow & arrow the right way, and safety precautions. Never in 15 + years has there ever been a shooting accident! Hours: They are open from when the sunrises to the sun sets says one of the volunteers. And if you come often enough, you can become a member and save money. BAD: This is not necessary bad, but finding the place may be difficult to some. Personally just follow google maps, you pass by a residential area just ever so briefly so don't freak out, and you turn right on a winding road that looks like you are going into a forest boonies, but don't fret, keep driving up the long driveway and there is plenty of parking in the area. I came here for the free archery lesson that's available every 1st and 3rd Sunday each month from 9 to 12pm. It's a great place for several reasons: 1) Free rentals. Most archery places do not provide rentals so you have to invest at least $200 for a bow and arrows to practice on any field 2) Extremely nice staff and volunteers. A cute family (parents and little girl) gave us advice, watched our forms and helped us find stray arrows for the entire 3 hours 3) Outdoors. 4) Donation based. I think the donation is definitely deserved due to the great instruction and rentals. I would recommend coming early as it can get crowded so you might not get a good target. We originally had to shoot at the 50 yard target, which is really hard for a beginner. However, later, a volunteer moved us to another target so that we could actually hit something. If you have an archery set, this place becomes 100x cooler. You can go on a trail where targets are placed throughout the woods. I bet it makes you feel more of a hunter. read more

This place. Is. Awesome. I've been meaning to come here for a couple months now. My friend and I came on the 3rd Sunday and arrived a little before 9 in hopes of getting into the 9-10:30 introductory session ($5 fee to use the grounds and borrow equipment) but found it was completely full; the woman "in charge" said that she started registration at 8:30 and there was already a line of 30 or so people waiting when she arrived. We registered for the 10:30 session, went to town to go get breakfast, and made it back for the 10 minute instruction video. The staff then helped us pick out bows based on our arm/back strength and set us up along a firing line. Throughout the next hour and a half, we shot over a dozen rounds at various targets, including balloons; the friendly and randomly hilarious instructors walked up and down and assisted anyone who was having difficulty. As my friend said, this was probably the best $5 we've spent on entertainment in a long time. I will be back next month for sure! read more

They have every distances you can want. 10-50+ yard targets, a range with up to 100 yards, and 2 hiking trails with a 28 shooting stations each of varying distances and elevation. A decent range

I love coming to shoot here! One of the volunteers had been my teacher in middle school, and my sister actually started shooting years before I did. I tried it eventually and was glad I did. Archery is a very pleasant sport on a nice day - it's exercise, but it's meditative. It is ridiculous how little they charge here for someone to come, get exceptional instruction from volunteers, and use their equipment (on an outreach day) for only five dollars. If you start coming regularly, you will notice getting better. Then, you might try out some of their beautiful trail ranges, where you get to go on a little mini-hike around the gorgeous hills and shoot targets along the way. I had my birthday party here one year - they were very accommodating: we worked out a good day, and I gave them a donation to cover all the guests, which I felt wasn't really enough. It was great fun! It can be especially great for kids, not only grown-up dorks :) If I had more time in my busy life, I'd come here much more often! read more

Two incidents which prompted me to write this review, otherwise great range with some great people. 1) Friend got harassed several times to donate to the range. He was holding supplies walking in and barely got a chance to set them down before getting continuously yelled at for not "donating". 2) Got harassed for shooting a trail target when main range targets were closed for outreach classes. We were told that shooting that target would wear it out before they could be replaced. Really??! What about all those "donated" money?? SMH. read more

This was an awesome place for a first timer like me. Bee was our instructor for the day. She would compliment and encourage you and give you effective pointers if you land a bad shot. We're surrounded by trees so it's very peaceful and relaxing. There's no pressure or competition since we're all new learners. First and third Sundays of each month allow for free lessons at this range. Early arrival is a must, as a wait list to use their equipment is more than likely to build up within the first hour. The staff give clear instructions on how to use the bow and arrows. After only a few minutes, it's shooting time! Took me a couple of tries to get it down, but it was a fun experience. It's not a business, just a bunch of volunteers so the $5 donation is just to cover costs and not for profit. They are very friendly and helpful. Safety and fun is their goal. Fantastic place to learn archery and have a good time! They charge $5 for 1.5 hrs of instruction and range time every other Sunday. Unlike the indoor ranges that only get up to 20 yards, this place is outdoors so they have targets all the way up to 50 yards away. We had a lot of fun attempting to hit the 35, 40 and 50 yard targets. And the instructors / members were super friendly and helpful. All in all SF Archers rock! read more

I just purchased my first bow and I had been to Golden Gate park and Pacifica Archery, which are both great places to shoot, don't get me wrong, but this place is on a whole other level! Had our very first time shooting arrows and boy did we have a great time! It was scary at first as we had no clue what we were getting ourselves into but the more you shoot the more you became comfortable. Jack gave us very good int ructions and demonstrations. I had forgotten my $5.00 and Sean was quick to save the day! He loaned me $5.00 without any hesitation, of course I returned his money but because of his kind gesture, I was able to enjoy and experience the fun in archery! All the staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. They have an outreach program every 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month.
