I went back to Chinook about 6 months ago, out of convenience, and Gary Luck won me over. An update…read moreof my review is overdue and well deserved. I've returned several times since and have found their prices for very small quantities often match the contractor or bulk pricing at Home Depot. I framed out an awning project over several weekends and saved probably 2-4 hours of drive time over my usual half dozen trips to HD :) I have to say It's extra nice to have everything brought directly to my vehicle on a fork and then to have smiling help loading every single time even in the pouring rain. All this compared to the alternative at either big box store where I'm stuck asking around, maybe getting begrudging help if at all... I saved time and money while getting a good product and superior service. It's unusual to find all of this in the same place. Thanks again to Gary and the whole crew at Chinook Lumber!

We chose Chinook Lumber expecting a reputable local company. While initial communication was…read moreresponsive, the experience after installation has been deeply disappointing. Within a short time of our deck being completed (June 2024), boards along the center divide--added at Chinook's recommendation--as well as at the ends began lifting. This has created an uneven surface and a clear tripping hazard. The decking is also starting to "dish," raising concerns about the quality of the installation and its durability. What's been most frustrating is how this has been handled. Follow-up has been slow, timelines have been vague, and there has been little urgency despite the safety concern. The proposed fixes feel like temporary workarounds rather than a proper solution. We approached this in good faith, but there's a reasonable expectation that a company stands behind its work when something goes wrong. That has not been our experience. At this point, we are seeking an independent third-party inspection to determine responsibility before proceeding further, which is not a step we expected to have to take. It's disappointing to write this, because we truly wanted this project to go well. But based on our experience, I would urge others to carefully consider not just the installation itself, but the level of support and accountability you may receive afterward.

I put in several gardens worth this season in the hopes of supplying our food banks, but that's just not going to happen now. Most things didn't even grow. Seeds popped long enough to expend their reserves, turn yellow or purple, and then die. Anything that managed to grow is tiny, yellow, and sickly. I have several thousand dollars in fruit trees and other plants that I've been slowly watching die over the last several months. After speaking to another local gardener, he suspects Grazon or some other growth suppressant may be involved. (Not on purpose. Accidents happen, but still have consequences.) I now need to rip out all of this dirt and isolate it somewhere until I figure out what to do with it. My trees need to be dug up and my garden beds fully rehabbed. I'm really hoping at least my trees make it. That was a big investment to lose down the drain. i want to be clear that I love this company for everything else, but until they figure out what's going on with that garden soil, please stay away from it. I've included a picture of the single (purple) green bean that managed to grow out of 70 plants. It only grew because I dug miracle grow in around it's roots in a hail-mary attempt to salvage something. Everything I've grown that doesn't touch this soil is doing well, but this soil is the kiss of death for anything it comes into contact with. I plan to send a sample in for testing once I'm done triaging the survivors.

One of the worst customer experiences my family has ever had…read more Irina reached out to me through the Nextdoor app offering help with my kitchen remodeling project. I visited their store with my parents to look at quartz options for our kitchen. During our visit, I asked a few very common questions that I ask every business I work with: Is this the best price you offer? Can I pay in cash to save on tax? (Many businesses offer this.) Can the work be completed by a specific date since I'm on a timeline? None of these questions are rude or unprofessional. I've spent 15-20 years working with people in customer-facing roles, and I fully understand that customers have the right to ask questions -- even the ones that may seem repetitive or inconvenient. The next day, I received an email from Keren Fugate stating that Irina felt I was "unkind" and "unprofessional" and that I should take my business elsewhere. This response was shocking. It made it seem like they only want customers who come in, stay quiet, place an order, and leave -- no questions asked. I tried calling Keren multiple times to clarify the situation. Her only response was to refer back to that email, effectively refusing to have a real conversation. If someone asks about discounts or cash payments, a simple "No, we don't offer that" is enough. That's exactly what they said -- and I respected it. Even if I had asked again to negotiate, that's still not being unprofessional. That's just business. This experience reflects a very poor attitude toward customers. If asking simple, reasonable questions is considered "unkind" here, then this is not a place that values or understands good customer service. I ended up not giving them any business -- and I'm glad I didn't. I can easily spend my money elsewhere with a company that actually respects its customers. I would not recommend anyone even step into this store.

My lumber wholesaler was out of stock on some specialty treated Timbers so I contacted them for a quote on an order on a Saturday morning. Celeste helped me and said she would have to get back to me Monday morning with price and availability. This is quite standard for these retail yards after M-F business hours because the treated wood plants aren't available after hours. So I waited and about 9am she emailed me with a quote ( higher than her phone estimate) and that if I wanted by Tuesday I would need to get back to her by noon. So I started contacting her by phone when I got to my next destination (was driving when her message came in). She was "on a call".... Multiple times that morning I stopped what I was doing, wiped the caulk from my hands and tried to reach her. Indisposed amongst other excuses were given including she's at lunch at about 10 am and when 11:30 came around I was a bit heated with the phone operator yet not profane. The operator said well thank you for the call and hung up!! Celeste suddenly became available later that day and explained she was in meetings etc. and that the person that hung up on me was a phone operator in Oregon. I told her that I will no longer consider them for my retail lumber needs. She didn't really know what to say and blamed on the central phone system. She then told me I could get it by Tuesday if I went to the Marysville yard! ??? Now that's service Celeste. What a nitwit! I let her know that I already ordered it all including some add on lumber at another company. What are you going to build? If you give your money to Parr you are just sending it to Oregon to a rude bunch of idiots and helping them pay for tv commercials.

That being said, this was my first time using the Snohomish County Solid Waste Transfer Center and it was a good experience. I know, going to the "dump" being a good experience sound odd, but good customer service, politeness and efficiency really does make the difference whether at a restaurant, retail store, coffee shop, or the "dump". In this case, every person I encountered that worked there was polite, courteous and helpful, meaning we were acknowledged, greeted, directed and thanked. They may have hated their job or were having a bad day, but I wouldn't have known. Good signage and direction made the experience quick and efficient with little to no delay so we were in and out Ricky-Tick. But in that short time the customer service did not go unnoticed. From the the gal in the booth/gate to the people on the dump site directing traffic. Honestly some restaurants and stores I've been to could take a lesson about customer service from them, no joke. As for the price 360 lbs. or less = $20, includes tax (minimum fee) Over 360 lbs. = $105 per ton, plus tax I think pretty reasonable, but the gal at the booth did inform us as we were checking out that prices would be going up to $30 for the minimum fee. Still not to bad I think.
