I hired Mayan Construction for a landscaping project that involved removing an old patio and then…read moreinstalling pavers. There was also a retaining wall that needed to be removed and replaced. For the first 90% of the job I'd say they did a decent job. The problem was with the finishing details. It's almost as if they finished 98% of the work and then didn't show to complete the rest of it. I asked them to return to my house and was told by Bryan that they would come back, but I never saw them again. I'm talking like a day of work to complete this stuff, if that. They left multiple pieces of rebar sticking out of concrete. I have kids and the last thing I want is for them to get hurt on sharp pieces of rebar. I also don't have the tools to cut the rebar myself. They had a sub come by and replace our aluminum gutters. There was one downspout that connected to an ugly piece of pvc pipe for drainage. I asked them to come back and remove the pvc pipe to make it look cleaner. They said they'd come back, but never did. I asked them to come back and fill in gaps that were left between the pavers, but again nothing was done. There was a sewer clean out that was left protruding above the paver patio too. I don't think I'd hire this company again to do any construction work at my house.

Terry has been the go-to contractor and handyman for the Isla Vista Food Co-op for over 10 years…read more His commitment to community partnership is an important part of how we've been able to keep growing our relationship with his wonderful local business, including his ability to work with us on all parts of the projects that we've engaged him about over the years. Terry and I have planned large-scale construction projects, and he's always been a great point-person with the County. His knowledge of the permit process and accountability for excellence in the relationship between the County and our Projects have made it easy to be successful in navigating this hard part of our work. He has great vision for how to make things better, including thinking ahead for multiple solutions in the same project (ie when the Co-op put on a new roof, he spent time re-creating the structure of all refrigeration and electrical so it was clean, safe, and able to open the roof for solar panels). When the solar panels went on, two years after the new roof, we were already ready! And then when the panels went on, he was able to think forward for new refrigeration unit planning, so there was appropriate space already there to receive our new condensing unit. That level of forward thinking strategy has been HUGE for our own planning. Terry has a great capacity for large project on-site coordination, including a strong oversight of subcontractors and strong communication with his own workers. The Co-op has many people and things moving through all the time, and Terry has been able to weave his work into our own flow on a very high level, including how he can coordinate and communicate with our team to ensure safe and efficient operations. Terry is also willing to oversee small projects on an ongoing and self-directed basis. He is able to work with myself and our team to establish a list of ongoing projects and then determine priorities to execute that also take our store flow into account (including best times of the year for larger in-store refreshment projects). He is able to easily communicate with our team and be working in-store while we're open for business, ensuring a safe and clean area for customers to keep shopping while he is working. I'm always impressed by Terry's commitment to keeping things safe, organized, and well planned so he and his team can work on their highest level, while we are as well. Our two businesses have grown together over the years, and it's been wonderful to have Keller Construction as a partner as the Co-op has been able to continually improve our physical plant and operations with Terry and his team by our side!

Too bad Rick cannot be in 100 places at the same time to supervise the work. I get that. I'm very pleased that he made it right, and that shows....he is an honest man and wants to please his customers. To repair this situation, it took more than power washing, sealant and paint. It needed the sand REPLACED after the power washing washed it away. The labor men were just doing what they were told: power wash, seal and paint. Period.
