I had an extremely distressing and unprofessional experience at Pacific Perinatal Center in May 2024 with Dr. Kristen Uquillas. I went in for a NIT scan, and during the ultrasound, my baby was in a difficult position. Instead of rescheduling or approaching the situation with care, I was asked to try multiple physical adjustments, including drinking water, doing jumping jacks, walking around, and even getting into a tabletop position while she attempted to scan. Despite the challenges, the doctor quickly took a single image and measured my baby's neck, stating it was elevated and immediately told me my baby had Down syndrome. Without offering reassurance, additional attempts, or confirming accuracy, I was told to get dressed so we could "discuss next steps." In her office, she recommended terminating the pregnancy. I was completely overwhelmed and unable to process what was happening. When my husband respectfully asked her to repeat the scan, she refused and became defensive, stating she does this every day. She also refused to allow us to return for a repeat scan on another day. We left devastated and confused. I immediately contacted my OB and sought a second opinion on my own. Within days, another specialist performed the same scan and confirmed that my baby was completely healthy, with normal measurements and no signs of Down syndrome. This was consistently confirmed at every follow-up appointment. My husband later contacted Dr. Naylor, the owner of Pacific Perinatal Center, and explained the situation, including that the appointment had been recorded. He acknowledged the mishandling of my case and told us the office would take care of the $270 bill and that we would not be responsible for payment. Two years later, I was shocked to receive a bill for this visit, which has now been sent to collections and negatively impacted my credit. This entire experience from the alarming and premature diagnosis, to the refusal to re-evaluate, to the lack of compassion, and now the billing issue has been deeply upsetting. The level of care and professionalism I experienced was unacceptable, and the ongoing billing situation has only added further stress. The scan and interactions with the doctor are great. But we were referred here by OBGYN, the front office staff did not check to see if it was covered by insurance. Very few offices medical offices don't check insurance before treatment. When asked about this, front office staff places blame on referring clinic, and on patient before admitting that their front office staff is not doing their job. Alex the billing manager can be hostile and unhelpful. This place will say you're covered but expect a big bill in the mail with no help to solve issue from office manager or billing department. read more

There's always a nervous feeling going to new doctors as a plus size woman, as so many treat you as if you're a subject on the 600 lb Life show. At times you're treated as if you don't ever exercise or sit and eat all day and night. I don't know how anyone has given this office a bad review, as we had the best experience for my 12 week scan. My husband and I had ZERO issues with how the staff treated us. The ladies in the front were very nice and professional, the nurse who took my vitals was very sweet, and Dr. Naylor was AMAZING!!! He spoke to me like a person, didn't make me feel any shame or embarrassment, and took time to explain every WHY behind each instruction. I understand why Providence refers to this office, as any nervousness was gone by the time we walked out! I feel very confident and empowered as a 37 year old navigating through my first pregnancy, he along with my primary office of care are a DREAM TEAM! Dr. Uquillas performed my ultrasounds during my pregnancy and has some of the best bedside manner I have ever seen, I am surprised she is not mentioned more in all of these positive reviews. All of my encounters with her were pleasant- she took the time to explain what she was looking at, looking for, and what my baby was doing! I was stressed my entire pregnancy but always looked forward to my visits here. Dr. Uquillas sent me to the hospital when I was 38 week because my blood pressure shot up and my OB decided that it was time for my baby to come out. I've been seeing Dr. Gutkin here, and she has been very helpful in answering all my questions each time. She was a lifesaver in telling me to take Miralax daily for my pregnancy-related constipation. The parking situation is a bit weird because Google maps actually directs me to the parking lot next door. The first two times I hopped the fence between the two parking lots, but then then I discovered a set of stairs on my third visit. Thank goodness, because it probably wouldn't have been safe to be climbing over fences while I was very pregnant. The parking lot gate arm next door was up on my first 3 visits, so I didn't pay for parking. Dunno if it was up because of the pandemic? But today the arm was down, so I took a ticket and got the first hour validated at the reception desk. However, when I left, the arm was up and there was no gate attendant, so I ended up not paying again. Not complaining about it though, lol. I like how they sent me a text with the ultrasound pictures on 3 out of my 4 visits. But other than the first visit, the other pictures weren't really Instagram-worthy, haha. But I guess the main reason was to check the health of the baby, so I can't be concerned about the vanity of the photos for social media. The visits appear to be pretty pricey, but I suppose that is to be expected for a perinatal center. read more

I am obsessed with this place and these Drs. I have gone for both of my pregnancies and both times what should be stressful is actually relaxing. Knowledge is power. I never felt rushed and the detail in which Dr Gutkin explains everything and is so very encouraging makes something that can be stressful, very enjoyable. Her positivity and expertise is palpable. Dr Naylor is exceptional, also explaining everything in detail and just in a calm stress free way. He is so knowledgeable and you can feel it. He explains it all like a sportscaster with a touch of humor. His focus is uncanny. Just pleasant all around. The wait can sometimes be long but only because once you are with the Drs they don't rush, but really the attention to detail and focus they give you are all worth the wait. I have never felt rushed out. The front desk is always so kind and helpful. So is Star. Parking is a breeze, if you're extra nice to the parking guy, he doesn't forget a face and will let you go through even if you're a little over the hour. I was very nervous going into my appointment because you don't know what to expect as a first time mom who may have complications. Seeing Dr. Naylor gave me so much comfort knowing we were in his care. He is such a wonderfully compassionate and caring doctor who really took the time to explain everything to me and didn't make me feel rushed. I'll never forget when he told me I was having a girl. He was pretty confident at only 14 weeks and confirmed it at 21 weeks. Said he would babysit for us if he was wrong. Well, he was right. We had a beautiful baby girl so I guess he doesn't have to babysit for us, although he's so sweet he probably would if we asked him to. He always answered all of my questions and assured me that he was going to care for me and my daughter throughout my whole pregnancy. It sadness me to write this. Today I had an appointment with Dr. Uquillas and was unable to be seen because Dr Naylor. I was harassed and humiliated by Dr. Naylor when I was told I couldn't be seen because a bill of $100 wasn't paid. The women who checked me in asked if I wanted to make a payment and I said not at this moment since the bill was being mailed to my home and my husband takes care of the medical bills. She said okay. 2 minutes later I was called to the back, right when the door opened Dr. Naylor charged at me from his office in the back to the front door and was screaming at me about this bill. Mind you, I am 37 weeks pregnant and a high risk pregnancy. He proceeded to raise his voice so everyone can hear him and told me I would not be seen if I didn't pay the bill, even though I wasn't his patient. I've been waiting to see Dr. Uquillas for 4 weeks and was excited to see my baby and how much she's grown. I even brought my teenage daughter to share the special moment with. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the baby and my care and my baby's care wasn't taken into consideration. Dr. Naylor lacks empathy and professionalism and at this point in my pregnancy I need to find a new specialist since I do not feel safe in his office. Dr. Naylor has clearly forgotten about the The Hippocratic Oath he took. Since I am high risk and he would not allow me to see Dr. Uquillas I went across the street to my PMI and asked them to take my BP, which was 142, high because of the situation in his office. Dr. Naylor actions were unacceptable, he acted more like a bouncer than a physician. DO NOT Go to his practice if you want excellent care. Responded on 6/21/24 Dr. Naylor, since you responded and somehow turned off my ability to respond I'll edit this post. I had no tantrum only very upset that I was told by you that I would not be seen because of a bill, you spoke down to me for the whole 8 minutes I was there which caused my BP to rise. I also did not understand why your office allowed me to keep the appointment if your policy is to not treat patients if they have an outstanding balance. Clear communication from your front office about the policy would have saved me a trip and you a patient complaint. You told me I had to leave your office because I wasn't going to make a payment at that very moment, even after I told you my husband would call for the payment. You and your staff treated me badly. Let me be clear, you have no empathy whatsoever and are in the wrong profession if you think it's okay to yell at a pregnant woman with high BP. The fact that you are responding to my post so aggressively should be a clear sign you were wrong. Not only did you ruin my experience yesterday but you ruined my daughters. It took me 4 years to get pregnant and I will never get this opportunity to again. You are a pre Madonna and petty. You and your staff are bullies and liars. Thank goodness I had a witness to debunk your claims about me being rude and disrespectful, who can vouch for your behavior that's not on your payroll. Dr. Gutkin is wonderful. She's personable, kind and has a positive/ reassuring tone, which I truly appreciate. Her medical expertise goes without saying, and I'm particularly grateful for how thorough she was with her scan and explanations of everything as we were going along. The office staff is polite and helpful and her nurses are awesome as well. Everyone made me feel welcome and safe, and that's something that really matters when you're looking for quality prenatal care. The office sent a text to confirm the appointment a few days prior and my appointment time was respected on the day of, which I also greatly appreciate. I've been in offices that consistently have wait times of over an hour, regardless of appointment times, so this was a refreshing difference. The office itself is modern and clean, and you can validate your parking pass before leaving when you schedule your next visit. The whole experience was very smooth and easy!! Her office is in a much larger medical building though so be aware of the amount of people (some not very respectful of social distancing / wearing masks) while in the downstairs general lobby or in the elevators. read more

These are the words spoken from Dr. Naylor when I was on the phone attempting to ask further questions and vocalizing my needs to see a specific high risk OB. The doctor wrapped our call by hanging up the phone on me before I could finish speaking. "If you're looking for compassion, then you are coming to the wrong place." "You have annoyed our office staff." This is my experience visiting this doctor's office for recurrent pregnancy loss, a heartbreaking and devastating experience. I have deliberated writing this review due the likelihood of Dr. Naylor writing back something that would minimize my experience. After my visit, I was shocked due to having read the positive reviews, but it is clear the doctor has two sides to him, and I unfortunately experienced a side no patient should ever have to experience, especially those that are going through loss and difficult pregnancies. That is why I write of my experience, so others do not have to go through the same. I own that I did not come into his office chipper. Unfortunately, I was kept 40-minutes in the waiting room past my appointment time until I was seen (even though I called prior and was promised it would be no longer than a 20-minute wait max). Then, when ushered into Dr. Uquillas' room 40-minutes late, there were no pleasantries exchanged or a simple "Hello, how are you?" Given the personal and vulnerable nature of this type of appointment, this is pretty sad. My experience of the appointment was as though it were a business meeting. If one is okay coming to a doctor's office to exchange facts and be treated like a number, without compassion (as the doctor mentioned they do not offer that), this is the place for you. I sincerely hope there is another side to this doctor that others experience. But I also more hope that you do not receive his other "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde" side, since not offering compassion to a woman experiencing any type of loss is NEVER okay. read more

I loved our Doctors! Dr.Uquillas and Dr.Gutkin made us feel so at ease throughout the entire pregnancy. We had visits about every other week since 14 weeks up until delivery at 35 weeks. They were both incredibly kind, answered all of our questions and never made us feel bad about calling at off work hours. The only downfall was the front office staff. She was always very rude when you walk in, didn't say hi or anything, just said "name?" One of the times we were there I saw her picking up her personal phone talking to her friend about getting shirts made for an event, and then she would answer the office phone and put them on hold so she could finish her personal conversation. It was really odd. Even if you called the office she was still very rude. Something like that makes a big difference in your experience, especially when every patient there is seeing the doctor for a scary reason. She could do a better job about making patients feel more comfortable and welcomed. Also the billing is an issue. They use an outside billing agency so it's not in office. We didn't get our first bill until 5 months after our first visit and it was $1k+ and we were expected to pay right then and it was already past due. They gave me the info to contact the biller(Alexandria), I've called her and left many messages and still no returned call. read more

I had a ultrasound at this place. The billing department took 1 year and half to bill me. Now they are are charging interest, there is a very rude office calling me all the time asking about payments. They have my è-mail, phone number and copy of my drivers license with my info. I don't know why they didn't contact me before. This place is that type of place that you go for a consultation and will have lots of headache with bills after. My OB sent me to Dr. Naylor for a 12 week NT and anatomy scan to ensure the health of the baby. My husband attended the appointment with me. Throughout the experience, I was impressed with the office. His staff was efficient with moving me through check-in, and Dr. Naylor himself was on-time for the appointment. I could immediately see Dr. Naylor's very warm and kind disposition, and you can tell he really takes a lot of pride in his work. Throughout the scan, he was extremely thorough--to be honest, I did not expect to see so much and get so much information about the health of my baby! Fortunately, we have no present issues to be concerned about, however, I will be going back for a standard 19-week scan and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the baby. At the end of the appointment, Dr. Naylor made time for questions (we had none because he already answered them during the appointment without our asking!), and we received a CD with a video of the scan. Lastly, he offered himself for any questions or concerns throughout the pregnancy if for any reason I am unable to get ahold of my OB. His team is super efficient with handling online forms (no waiting for 30 min in the waiting room doing paperwork), getting your vitals taken, and back into the room. Plus, he came right in after I was roomed. I loved the way he explained the entire ultrasound in such detail. He let me take pics / videos throughout the ultrasound. He then met with me after the ultrasound in his office to again review his findings and give me time to ask any questions. I was really happy with my care here!! Dr. Uquillas was amazing. I'm so grateful to have had her through my pregnancy with twins. HOWEVER, this practice has predatory billing practices. They know their patients are there for high risk pregnancies so they are going to keep going as often as you tell them to even though they haven't gotten a bill. I went 10 times over the course of my pregnancy. They mailed me a bill for the first visit. I asked repeatedly for bills in the office and only got a copy of one from them one time. The only way I knew how much to pay was buy looking at my insurance EOBs. They finally sent another bill after I gave birth. The remaining balance was incorrect but I paid it anyway. NOW they continue to sens bills saying I haven't paid in full and they add an exorbitant late fee even though I have sent proof of payment for every single appointment twice. They do not give you a receipt that shows what payment corresponds to what bill when you pay neither in the office nor online. They do not show you a balance owed/due when you make a payment online either. Worst of all they know the population they work with is at higher risk for post partum mental health issues, and they think it's ok to just pile one with BS late fees.....you can't be late on a bill you paid before you every even received it! read more

He didnt provide any detailed answers, he didnt help when he was needed. His actions led to my wife having unnecessary and expensive procedures. his actions led to my wife having to spend excessive time in the hospital. Avoid this guy. Dr. Naylor and his staff, located at 4201 Torrance Blvd. Suite 540 are cold hearted and eager to abort! I respected his position as a Dr. and I wanted to trust him. My wife and I were there to make sure everything was ok, NOT be pushed into an abortion. He and his staff Insisted and pressured us to abort because our little girl had Down syndrome. Our baby had complications and Dr. Naylor wanted to take amniotic fluid to test our baby girl. Dr. Naylor Said he "could help our baby by testing and taking the amniotic fluid." After testing, he said he could not help. I felt dumb for trusting him, I made a huge mistake trusting him. 2 weeks later we are in emergency because our baby did not have enough amniotic fluid. We had our baby at 6 months, emergency c section because not enough amniotic fluid. Our baby girl was born under emergency c section due to lack of amniotic fluid and passed after 5 days. People should know what you did. Our primary Dr. Stopped using Dr. Naylor. My wife was your patient. read more

I was referred to Dr. Naylor by my OB for the standard genetic disease screening / anatomy appts and I ended up seeing him a bit regularly after that because of our pregnancy situation. Coincidentally I have a gf who lives in LA that was referred to him by her physician as well. The office itself is very clean and relaxing and there is thought behind the ambiance created...very warm. The staff is nothing short of professional and pleasant. My first impression with Dr. Naylor was that I had never received such a thorough (ultrasound) exam... he covered everything from baby's blood flow in the brain, temperature, etc... possibly more information than I knew what to do with but his attn to detail is impeccable and not all doctors do that. Later appts would prove that information to be very important. Also right off the bat he asked me questions about myself... we get in office consults/reviews, and he walks you out. We were able to be on guard with our baby's growth progression, and have the extra care that was required for my pregnancy thanks to Dr. Naylor. Amazing experience at Pacific Perinatal Center with Dr. Naylor. The office has a calm relaxing atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Sounds of trickling water, spa like music, soft lighting and a great selection of current magazines. The staff is well trained and very systematic about the forms and process of checking you in. I waited for maybe 2 minutes before I was taken back to have my vitals checked by the sweetest nurse. The first thing she said to me when she took me back was congratulations on my pregnancy. That was nice that she put compassion into her check in with me. SHe explained everything she would do before she did it and she told me what to expect next in regards to my time with the doctor. My time with Dr. Naylor exceeded my expectations. He was warm and friendly the whole appointment through. He talked me through all the exciting steps we would take in my appointment including pictures and DVD I would be taking home of our growing baby. He went over my history and asked me if I had any questions which I did have a few random questions that he loved to answer. He likes to teach and educate you the best he can. He also had a nice sense of humor and showed that he can be light hearted. Another plus in my book. His clinical room was super beautiful. It included the same feelings as the waiting area and it boasted a large flat screen tv monitor so I could see with ease exactly what he was seeing on his monitor. I am forever grateful for Dr Gutkin. This is my second mono di twin pregnancy with her and she has been everything I needed and more! With all the uncertainties surrounding twin pregnancies, she has been someone I can trust through both pregnancies to monitor my littles and keep me sane. I moved out of the area and drove more than an hour each way to keep her as my specialist. She's that good! Calming, knowledgeable, and a very great bed side manner- she is amazing.
