This class went over first aid and CPR, mainly the basics given a certian situation. Since all situations will be different being able to recognize some signs we're helpful. The instructor Tricia was expressive and engaging, the 4 hour class flew by quickly with an information dump of how-tos, both in video format and with partner demonstrations. There were room for questions after each section and each answer was informative. Luckily they provide a take home manual that summarizes the slides you'll be going through if you forget. Bring snacks and drinks (closed tops/bottles), as you'll get breaks in between, though they do offer some for sale. Overall great class and definitely recommend it either for a first time, refrehser or if you need the most basic form of certification.

Besides…read morethat fact, I have to say Anita and Dave are concise, thorough, friendly teachers that really want you to know all the basic skills while delivering them in such a way that it'll stick. They have a more fast-paced, hands-on approach - however, this works since Anita wants you to approach a variety of real-life situations using critical thinking. The class was held in their own private residence condo in Coronado, and parking was a pain (then again, it was Coronado). Overall, I would definitely recommend Anita and Dave for their thoroughness and personable natures. I think this is the first time all of the first aid and CPR content stuck in my head without having to watch videos or do vast amounts of paperwork. Plus, you get your cards from the American Heart Association right after class!

I recently took a class with instructor, P.W., and his instruction was exceptional. He is knowledgeable, approachable, personable, kind, and inclusive. He somehow makes an all-day class feel like it goes by quickly! What I appreciated most was his teaching style. He doesn't just give you the answers, he walks you through the question or scenario and helps you critically think your way to the answer yourself. He takes the time to explain things clearly and makes sure everyone feels comfortable asking questions. This was a challenging class for me, and having an instructor like P.W. made a huge difference. As a non nursing medical professional I am not required to have an ACLS cert, but I felt passionately that myself and others that work in hospitals should be aware of how Advanced Life Support works and what general concepts are covered beyond BLS. I will make it a routine to repeat the ACLS class in the years to come because they did such a great job at STAR to put students in simulations that you will actually encounter in healthcare. I think my most recent BLS course with him was my 3rd consecutive renewal session. He does a great job at explaining all of the important information we learned on the learning modules during the in-person skills training. He gives live feedback on your performance, and offer suggestions on how to improve/modify your technique.
