My wife and I are about to have a baby and of all the classes and pre-infant prep that are out there I thought learning CPR was probably the most important. Courses offered by the hospitals didn't exactly fit our schedule, so we did a quick Yelp search and found CPR Advantage. Our instructor Nathan was more than fantastic! An EMT and dad himself, his style of teaching was the perfect balance between fun and interactive, but also instilling the seriousness that emergency situations require. He created real life situations and walked us through what to do when an infant/small child is both choking or has stopped breathing, and we actually got to practice first aid and CPR on some of the best dolls that money can buy. I don't think you can ever be fully prepared for an emergency, but after this class I can honestly say that my confidence level is higher for a situation that requires either CPR or the heimlich maneuver. My husband and I took the infant/child first aid & CPR class with Nathan at Babies R Us back in December. I had researched a lot of class options, but many of them were long courses and didn't focus on just infants and babies. This class was a good price and was only two hours (granted, a jam packed two hours, but a perfect amount of time for busy people). Nathan is passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging -- all the things you want in an instructor. I had taken my husband to a lot of baby-related classes before our son was born, and this was the only one where he said it was a worthwhile class. Nathan was absolutely amazing for about a billion and a half reasons, but I'll just go through a few here: 1) I wasn't able to attend my first scheduled training for legitimate reasons, so he went to bat for me to transfer my fees with the facility and reschedule for another date. What's more, he's super accessible by email and phone, offering to help in any way possible long in advance of my actually attending the training. 2) Nathan offered incredible instruction of First AID, AED, and CPR. His acting scenarios are hilarious and effective to get you as much "in the zone" of an actual emergency as possible. He's willing to answer any questions you might have (and with years of experience teaching, as a paramedic, and working with the Children's Hospital and the fire department, he has an abundance of knowledge to share). He's incredibly encouraging and has great intentions to help inspire more goodness in the world. 3) Nathan truly cares about his students. He offers to support you after you've done the trainings with him in case you need refreshers or are simply seeking references to other related resources. The students in my course were of all backgrounds & ages and were there for different purposes -- Nathan made each one of us feel comfortable and welcome. Since you need to renew your certification every two years, I'm looking forward to that time to learn from him again and bring other folks I know who are looking to be better informed on how to help others. I'm a yoga teacher, mentor teens, teach stand-up paddle yoga, and offer Reiki services, so I now feel MUCH better qualified to support my students in case an urgent or emergency need arises. As a healthcare professional, I am required to keep my BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers certification up-to-date. To be honest, and most of my colleagues agree, none of us like when two years lapse and we find ourselves scrambling around trying to find a class to get into to renew our CPR cards. If you aren't planning ahead, it is easy to let time creep up on you...leaving you with sometimes only a week to get in somewhere, to renew your CPR...and if you don't get in, well, looks like you have to stop working until you get an up-to-date card! So, I found myself with only a couple weeks to find a class, schedule a class to actually fit into my busy schedule, and then sit through the typical 3-4 hours worth of information (that to be frank, most people in the class are not even listening to!) and of course show our CPR "skills"...to then be granted with that ever-important American Heart Association CPR card! I Googled around...I Yelped around...I asked around...I needed to find a place to get in and quick. I inquired via email and phone calls to multiple places, with my fingers crossed that one would work out. I got a call back from Nathan at CPR Advantage, and it sounded promising! Nathan explained that since I was just looking to renew, I could do the written exam portion on the American Heart Association's website (for $17.50) and then work with him to set-up a time to do my "skills" portion in person (which should typically take 45-60mins and costs $40). PERFECT! As opposed to my other option of sitting through the whole certification class for 3 hours, I loved the idea of spending 45-60mins online with the written portion whenever I had the time...and then doing the "skills" portion in person for 45-60mins. The best part is that CPR Advantage comes to you...so even though it was just me, Nathan came right to my own house! I called him two days in advance and he was able to squeeze me in. He showed up right on time...carrying his case with the adult, pediatric, and infant mannequins. Though I have been CPR certified for over 7 years now, I still am not perfect at performing the skills. Thank God, I have never had to actually perform CPR in a real-life situation...but if in the future I do, I honestly feel that Nathan has answered all of my questions and prepared me fully for any basic life support event. Bottom Line: --Nathan is extremely accessible via phone, text, and email. This makes it easy to set-up an appointment. --CPR Advantage offers a realm of certifications. I only needed the renewal, though they also offer first time certifications as well.. --Price was fair; it's actually less than what some places charge! --CONVENIENT!!! I can't emphasize enough, how awesome it is that CPR Advantage comes right to your own house or place of employment! (even if it's just one person and not a group!!) --Knowledgeable. Nathan has real life/work experiences with using life saving techniques. He is extremely passionate about what he does, and he really wants his students to fully understand how to perform CPR if the need was to arise. I recently took my CPR class with Nathan Cohen, and I decided to take his class based on the price and the positive reviews on Yelp. The class was personalized and based on the specific needs and certification that each person was pursuing. In my past certification, the classes took 4-6 hours to complete. This class was small with 5 people and took a little over 2 hours to do. The awesome part is that you received your certification card and all the other extra material necessary for your certification the same day. I have a 14 month old daughter and a nurse friend of mine brought to my attention that I really need to learn first aid and Infant / Child / Adult CPR & AED. I found Nathan here on Yelp. I also like that he teaches from his own personal experience and shares practical advice in addition to the American Heart Association's curriculum. Guys Nathan really is an amazing CPR/AED & first aid instructor!!! My wife and I are so glad that we went to him. I did a lot of research on CPR companies before we choose Nathan. He is very knowledgeable, answered all of our questions, is super friendly and made the class really fun!!! He teaches in a way that helps you remember what you are learning too. One of the things I liked most is he prepares you with real life examples and prepares you for being able to perform flawlessly and confidently if you ever had to use CPR and first aid.
