Wandered into Oasis Deli & Grocery the other day looking for someone to make me a decent sandwich…read moreto take back to my office. I had been in this strip center several times eating at China Wok and Sabrina's restaurants, but had not even noticed that Oasis was right next to Sabrina's. When hungry, I can be rather myopic. So, in I went. Looking around the shop was sparsely inventoried, especially compared to some of the other "delis" in the area that try to offer everything you could possibly want, from macaroni salad to chewing 'bacci. Frankly, I don't really see the grocery side of the business being anything more than a poor man's Seven Eleven. But, the Honey Turkey and Swiss Hoagie they threw together for me was astounding considering what they had to work with. The deli refrigeration unit had only D & W products, and only a small amount of each. I asked for Lettuce, Sweet Peppers and a little Mayo, and I watched as a head of iceberg came out and was sliced fresh and put into the long roll. Then, Sandwich Man pulled out a large plastic jar of Red Sweet Peppers, and with his gloved hand reached in and extracted a huge handful of bright Reds and spread them out across the face of the creation. Slices of Swiss on top and bottom finished his opus, and I watched him bind, wrap and seal the submarine tightly before bagging it. Upon opening at my desk, I beheld a Manwich. It was a beautiful job dressed in a superior and textured long roll, with all the innards barely contained within. And, it was very good. While I entered thinking that this strangely named deli might be more of a deserted atoll, I sat happily corrected with a sandwich large enough for 2 lunches. This was truly an Oasis where a life sustaining submarine could come to your rescue.

It was around 2pm but the tables were packed and people were coming in for the ice cream counter. It was a lot for one person but she kept a friendly smile the whole time. I want to start with the good - Turkey club, onion rings and tots!!! The turkey is made in house and I'm jealous I didn't order it. The club came with fries but substituted them for tots and it was a good portion. They were cooked perfectly. I ordered a side of onion rings since my sandwich didn't come with a side. They were very good. Thick onions but the breading wasn't too thick and not too greasy. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak hoagie with mayo. It was so dry. Not much cheese in sight unfortunately. The mayo was almost non existent and the server never checked on us so I couldn't ask for more. She was running around and busy with everyone so not complaining about service. This is just a personal preference comment....they put oregano on their cheesesteak hoagies and I'm assuming hoagies. I should've asked because I'm not a fan. I'll definitely go back but will stay away from the chicken cheesesteaks lol....or maybe try a pizza steak!!?!

I stopped in last Sunday, Mothers' Day and had a long wait for the Street Corn Dog I ordered. No worries, as it was good to see all the young families (and a few older ones) celebrating together. Clearly the proprietors were loving/stressing about all the customers and running out of provisions like hamburger buns and soft drinks. We all rolled with the punches. My frankfurter was handed to me by a cook in a cool cardboard box. I felt the warmth of the dog and the heft of all the elote, crema and queso. I was glad it was hot because I had an hour drive home before I would get to consume it. Yes. I loved every bite. The hot dog was pleasantly garlicy with a snap from my incisors. The roll held up its end of the bargain with no loss of support for its contents. The corn mix was cheesy while sweet from the kernels. It was a small party in my mouth. 1785 Farmdog works well in Medford, and would be best enjoyed on a day when there was room on their sidewalk picnic tables to sit and take in the full ambiance of this charming town. 4 Hot Diggity Dog Stars
