It's often said that the definition of insanity is trying the same (abysmal) thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well, for SUN night's meal choice, label your favorite Yelp correspondent insane. Craving some wickedly good Kung Pao chicken after eating mind-blowing, tongue-numbing authentic Szechuan fare from Mountain House a few nights prior, I availed myself of a "30 % off" coupon from Door Dash and placed my takeout order w/ PF Chang's. NEVER MIND that I'd eaten there previously-- My daughter and I dined there and accorded it 3-stars in NOV, 2023. NEVER MIND that I had a huge conviction that PF Changs would Americanize their take on the Kung Pao. Shore enough, when I got home and opened up my dinner, I was disheartened to see that PFC had, indeed, performed an entire transition surgery on my entree! They'd stripped out the Szechuan style peppercorns called huajiao in Mandarin Chinese, that create the amazing mouth-numbing sensation the Chinese call the Mala flavor profile. THEN to further compound the culinary crime, PFC dubbed in CELERY. WHO puts celery in Kung Pao chicken??! Flavor wise, the dish was very mehhhh. The sole thing PFC got right about my Kung Pao chicken was the color!! They nailed the caramel brown hue that good Kung Pao has...but flavor wise, my dish tasted much more like General Tso's than Kung Pao. Zero heat, zero malty, nutty even chocolate notes on the back palate caused by the interplay of sizzling hot Huajiao (Szechuan) peppercorns dancing in a wok w/ peanuts. This was a self-inflicted culinary wound, folks. I should've known better, based on my prior dining history and my extensive overall dining knowlegdge. I had lunch with my two teenage kids. We ordered an appetizer and three entrees. The app was pan fried dumplings, the dumpling skin was thick and chewy and kind of cold . My entree was crispy honey chicken, it was not crispy just very warm like the chicken was warmed in the microwave. None of the food temperature was hot it was always just barely warm. I asked my server to remake it since the crispy part was what sold me. By the time I received my food my kids were done eating. I asked the server to take of my plate since I dont want my kids to wait while Im the only person eating. The server did that no problem. Then the manager wanted my opinion on the dining experience. The server already solved the problem and I was happy. I let the manager know that the quality of the food was poor and seemed heated up and not much different from their frozen food. She assured me its fresh and handmade, which now makes me feel insulted. The dumplings they have are no way prepared and made to order like she claims. So I asked for her to show me which she said she couldnt. I understand but she kept insisting I take her word that its fresh and made to order, which I cant believe not with dumpling uniformed in shape and sealed the same way. The noodles were super oily and not very flavorful. The prawns and ribs were just okay. My friend had a pomegranate refresher/lemonade which she seemed to really like. Ordered a spicy tuna roll and any signs of spicy tuna was absent from 1/2 the rolls. They skimmed on putting a very thin layer in the rolls. The best food we ordered was the shrimp dumplings. Those were good, but not worth returning to eat here again. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because we were here to celebrate my sons bday and they brought out a huge 4-5 layer slice of chocolate cake for him with a huge sparkler. This was my first time dining at P.F. Chang's, and unfortunately, it will be my last. The quality of the food was extremely disappointing, especially considering the high prices. When you pay this much for a meal, you expect quality food and good service, but neither met my expectations. The service was incredibly slow, and to make matters worse, it seems one of the servers accidentally took our food to employees who were eating, causing an even longer delay. This was frustrating and unacceptable. We ordered the honey shrimp, and the seafood had a noticeably fishy taste and smell, which raised concerns about its freshness. As someone who enjoys cooking at home, I understand that seafood should taste fresh, and this was far from what I expected. Overall, this experience was a huge disappointment. Between the poor food quality, long wait times, and lack of attention to service, I cannot justify the prices. Not the best, but not the worse. The husb and I came because I got a BOGO coupon! You don't have to tell me twice! We decided to get two entrees, the Mongolian beef and the crunchy shrimp. They were okay, nothing outstanding, the beef would be the winner for me. The shrimp had a strange smell when it came out, but I still ate it, you gotta love shrimp. It tasted fine, but again, nothing that will make me do summersaults. Our waitress was pleasant but did not bother to explain the menu choices, did not ask us to select the main entree, etc., and failed to come by at least once to see if everything was okay or if we needed refills on our drinks or anything else, she even forgot to bring one our dishes out, and when we asked for it, she said, oh do you want that to go? On a Saturday night, we decided to have P.F. Chang's for dinner. It was just my husband and I on a special date night and we got in right away and sat at one of the booths in the bar. My husband is doing dry January so he just got water. I got the Cosmo $5 "all day, everyday menu". It was pretty good a little on the sweet side, but I didn't mind it. We ordered tempura green beans as well as lettuce wraps, and for our main dish we ordered Mongolian beef with lo mein. We weren't sure why the Mongolian beef cost more than the other beef dishes. It was a little bit chewy, but for the most part it was good and everything tasted fresh. we had a mostly attentive server, but there would be times when he didn't check on us, but it was also because he was making drinks. My son & I have celiac disease & this place has a separate kitchen space for preparing gluten free dishes. The food was always great & always gluten free. The only negative is the last few times we went they had changed the way they were cooking the changs spicy chicken. It used to be more dark colored & crispy & now it's light in color & gooey. The apps were delicious and the drinks were good (except for the amount of ice in my husbands mai tai). Our bill total was $61 before tip which is a lot for a happy hour. I was taken out to lunch at P.F. Chang's today, and the Christmas music playing inside really set a nice, festive tone for the meal. Our server was prompt, kind, and articulate, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the kitchen was out of several items that my coworkers tried to order, including the Crispy Honey Chicken and certain noodle dishes, which was disappointing. That said, the food we were able to order--including the appetizers and soups --were delicious, served hot, and well prepared. Toward the end of the meal, there was an issue with a to-go order that never got rung up or entered correctly, which caused our CEO to wait behind for the final order. That was frustrating and put a bit of a damper on an otherwise enjoyable lunch. I've been going to PF Changs for over 20+ years, on & Off. The food has always been good. However, unfortunately due to the pandemic, recent changes in buying cheap quality foods from other vendors; I'm sorry, but Panda Express around the corner has better quality foods. I drove all the way from Yorba Linda to Chino Hills just to eat a nice Lunch. I should had stayed home. The fish was very Fishy smell, the Fried rice was cold.
