It's very rare that I give really bad reviews because I usually read other reviews before I go somewhere. Most times the reviews are accurate. But this was not the case for this business. I favor trying out small businesses, especially women-minority owned, because I prefer the personal attention one receives at these places versus going to a larger establishment where sometimes you feel like a number. I tried this place out based on the positive reviews, but I have to say... I don't agree at all. This establishment lacks professionalism and the clean appearance. It has old equipment, stained and ripped chairs, and the customer service is far from personable or professional. The process for getting pedicures was sketchy at best. Most places place a plastic cover around the tub and a sterilizing tablet in the water before you put your feet in it. Not here! I was asked to put my feet in before the water was even ran. The tools the technician used didn't appear to be sterilized either. Other establishments pull them from sealed sterilized packets. The person who did my pedicure appeared to be grumpy and in a hurry to leave. Mind you, it was 5:30pm. This is supposed to be a relaxing "spa-like" event but she treated my feet like they were potatoes! She rushed through my pedicure, pushing and pulling my feet like it was a bother for her, barely filing the nails down after cutting them (that was scary too), very little buffing and smoothing, yanked my cuticles off, slathering too much lotion on, and finally placing an extremely hot towel on my legs and feet! Warm I can handle but HOT is way too much! I was so tense by the time I got through the process, that when I got off the chair my back and neck were hurting. I was attending an event the next day and needed my nails done badly. I asked if she can do pink and white nails--simple right? She said yes, but then THAT brought on a ton of tense conversation between her and the other workers in their language. I knew they were talking about me because they kept saying "pink and white" with disapproving expressions on their faces. As if I had asked for plastic surgery! Displeased with their reaction, I almost left, but because it was past 6:30pm and I had no time to go elsewhere, I finally just asked that they remove the powdered acrylic already there and do a simple gel manicure. They were ecstatic and said "yea...that is better." She did an "okay" job, didn't trim my cuticles or treat them, and left my hands and fingers stained with polish and acetone. I had to ask her to remove some of it.
Here are a few tips: 1) If you can't do something just say you can't and politely ask if someone else can do it for you! 2) Talking about your customers while they're in your presence is downright rude! even if it's in another language! 3) Finally, don't bring your children to work with you. If you do, keep them in a safe environment AWAY from your customers, not running about the place screaming, laughing hard, and playing. Your customers are their to experience a relaxing service. read more
