Tuna Nigiri
Tee E.

Being from the coast, I'm probably a little spoiled as far as fresh sushi goes. Ordered Tuna Nigiri and Spicy Ramen. The tuna wasn't fresh, but it certainly wasn't old either. The rice almost tasted a bit sweet though, which is definitely something a little new to me. Also white pickled ginger. Which was also sweet. Strange, but not bad. The spicy ramen was really nothing to write about. It is obviously packaged ramen, with just a flavor packet. You could tell by the little pieces of semi rehydrated vegetables. Waitress was super nice and friendly. Nigiri took 3 minutes, ramen took 10. Average review for an average place.

Worlds smaller $5.99 order of Agedashi Tofu. Tasted ok, but definitely not worth it. Recommend: skip the tofu!

Stopped there on the way through. Ordered a bento box. Lots of food for a great price. Everything tasted good and fresh. I would come back.

Will definitely be stopping here again. Their sushi was fantastic - possibly the best sushi I've had.

This place had great sushi, but not the best service. Was also a bit pricey! Overall it was an enjoyable experience!

My best friend was here from the coast and we've eaten sushi at numerous restaurants there. Wanted…read moreAYCE so decided to try this one. Mistake! The interior was clean and well lit. We were seated quickly and given our menu papers to order. VERY surprised to find that items that are standard at other AYCE sushi restaurants were a 'charge added' at this one. In addition, many items like chicken karage, were not even on the menue. Given the lack of staff (no blame here-we let it go) it took quite awhile for the server to pick up our order sheets. The Sunomono Salad was the first hint that something might be amiss. It came in a glass cup and the vinegar was yellow. Apple cider vinegar instead of rice vinegar, I think. My friend, who LOVES Sunomono salad couldn't eat hers. Then our items came in dribs and drabs. A California Roll and a couple of Inari (even though the menu said 3 pieces per order, and we ordered X2 (which should have been 6 pieces) we received 2 pieces. Then came the Tempura (sans the 2 prawns that comes with it EVERYWHERE else-prawns were an extra charge) and then the Yakisoba. Finally, the teriyakis come. 2 beef and 2 chicken. Teriyaki? A pile of fried cabbage and onion and 5 measly tiny pieces of chicken and another pile of fried cabbage and onion and 2 pieces of beef. NO TERIYAKI SAUCE!! Even though we both love cabbage, neither one of us could eat all of it. Then there is this-if you do not eat all of each dish, you are charged for that dish separately. So, my friend was charged an extra $5 for her unfinished Yakisoba (more cabbage mixed into lukewarm noodles). We complained about the huge amount of cabbage for each of the hot dishes and I felt that they should have not charged extra for the yakisoba. All in all a very disappointing AYCE lunch. The rolls were fine-nothing special. The Inari was fine. Everything else was sub-standard or non existent and having to pay extra for items that are standard at other sushi restaurants is a money grab. I will never eat here again and I will encourage my friends not to as well.

This place is called "Sushi Royal Tokyo" for those of you who couldn't find the review on Yelp…read more Trying to get them to approve my edits, but in the meantime.. Coming from Vancity, didn't really have much of an expectation for this place, but it ain't bad. It's open on Sunday until 8pm (most other Asian restaurants are closed Sundays). They're run by Koreans, and they use pretty good quality stuff. Their salmon is the redder type, which I believe is because they are the wild salmon? (to my knowledge, farmed salmon have a faded light orange color). That was a huge plus for me, not to mention their sashimi and other sushi are all great. We had their AYCE, and two things to watch out for: 1. Ask the difference between the light and full AYCE dinner menu; they just gave us a sheet of paper, and we chose whichever we want. Ended up we got the more expensive AYCE, I'm guessing the lighter one probably doesn't have sashimi. Who knows. 2. They didn't tell us about last call. We figured it was about time at 7:40 ish, but turns out they cleaned the kitchen already. If you're having a sushi craving, check this place out.

The hubs had a massive sushi craving on Saturday night, so I went and searched for a place to try…read more Since I've tried so many DT ones, we wanted to venture out and expand our horizons. A restaurant that has been around 10+ years? This restaurant looked promising. We took up the offer of 10% off for pick-up orders over $25. We mulled over the online menu and made the call at 7:29pm. We were told the order will be ready in 25 mins. Ambiance: The restaurant looks like a home on the outside. Inside is clean and spacious, with 3 comfy lounger sofas (and a fish tank) for the waiting area. Decor is quite minimal. Pick-up process: The pick-up process was quite fast. Our order was ready for us by the time we arrived. The hubs dropped his name and our order was handed over (yes, they accept credit cards). The spread: we debated, contemplated and finally shortlisted to order chicken yakisoba, chopped scallop roll, salmon sashimi, and rainbow roll. As we opened our goodies when we got home, we noticed 3 complimentary things: a full order roll on the house, sliced up oranges (like how our mamas cut them), and a miso soup. Taste: this is the part that got us. We found that the rolls and the yakisoba were a bit lacking in flavours, but other than that it was great! The rolls all came in purple-ish rice (not sure what kind of rice this is...) - The rainbow roll was not how we imagined it and it had a lot more rice than we wanted. - The yakisoba didn't have the tangy flavours of other yakisobas we had. The chicken and noodles were a bit overcooked. - The salmon sashimi was fresh and juicy. - The chopped scallop roll had the chopped scallop on top and a california roll on the bottom. The chopped scallops were nice, and tasty. - The roll on the house was basically a fried california roll. It's good, but anything fried tastes good. -For some reason, the wasabi tastes sweet (did they add sugar in there?) -Miso soup tastes good. It was not too salty. Portion: Really good. The rice:ingredients ratio could be better. The rainbow roll has a lot of rice, rendering the ingredients small in comparison. Yakisoba had a good ingredients:noodle ratio (ie, I didn't feel like I was only eating noodles). We received two small cubes of tofu in the miso soup. I didn't see any seaweed. The complimentary things that we received was certainly a very nice touch. Price: For Kamloops, this place is really not bad at all. It is too bad it is far without a car from DT area. Overall: taste was 3/5, portion 5/5, price 5/5. Overall, we give it 4.5/5. With the special touches from the restaurant (even though we are only take-out customers), we bumped it up to 5/5, and will likely come back again.
