I guess "stumbled" is not exactly accurate because the store is enormous. It is like a hypermart in the US. It has everything from foods to kids' toys to refrigerators. Visiting supermarkets is one of our favorite travel experiences wherever we are in the world! Much like most grocery and drug store chains in the US, Super Chedraui accepts cash and Visa, and has a broad range of products and services: - Local and imported grocery items, including a large variety of both unique simple ingredients and processed/ pre-packaged products... - Meats and dairy... - Broad selections of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including juices, coffees, teas and a large variety of electrolyte drinks for rehydrating after a long day of adventuring in the tropics (or partying too hard on spring break or getting a bout of the storied Montezuma's revenge)... - Snacks like chips, cookies and crackers... - Candies! Fun candies! Fancy candies!Ordinary candies! North American candies! European candies! Asian candies!! - Farmacía/ Pharmacy with OTC and prescription meds that are OTC in Mexico... - Souvenirs and beachgoing goods... - Bakery & cafe... - ATMs from a few different banks... And Bonus -- right out front is a pet watering station with shade, artificial turf, little dog water fountains shaped like fire hydrants and bowls! All in all, Chedraui is a great little stop for anything you might have forgotten to bring on your trip groceries to cook up between outings, basic first aid supplies or to get some tasty, unique gifts for your friends back home!

Attention Travelers: Know your Pesos!!!…read more Seriously, the staff here slow down for no one because this is a local spot. But that's the fun of it all. My friends and I stopped by this place to grab snacks and drinks before heading to the dock for an afternoon boat ride. I also picked up a hat because...why not! I can use my cards or American dollars so I always have $100 or $150 in pesos. Anyways, they sell noodles, hot dogs, pizza slices, fruits, and sandwiches if you want something more substantial. Es super. Es híper! Es un mercado muy híper!…read more Seriously this is a huge, huge mercado, and the best last stop for groceries on the way to Tulum. This supermercado far outstrips any of the offerings south of this point, and should be a stop you make on the way from the airport to Tulum or really any points south. Located inside a weird sort of mini-mall, the Soriana has a surprisingly decent selection of produce, a very large and diverse selection of regular groceries, a big meat, deli and cheese selection, and pretty much everything you could want. The spirits selection is larger than your average supermercado. Prices are pretty decent. Don't miss the little deli section on the left hand side of the store (when facing in from the front) with various types of interesting Mexican cheeses and chorizos. Nothing too artisan or fancy here, but some decent stuff. The only things this place is missing are maybe a fresh salsa bar, some more artisan things, and maybe a little bit better produce section. But compared to other markets in the area, it easily holds its own.
