Really enjoyed a pleasant lunch with my husband and mother at Owera Vineyards. We sat at the bar and were served by Sinead, who was super informative and kept good care of us. The wines were good - a little on the sweet side but the Rose Shimmer and the La Crescent was nice - and paired well with the two delicious pizzas we got. My husband got the Cab Franc and enjoyed it as well. Both pizzas were a good size. We also had the Cab Franc Sorbet which was a delightful palette cleanser. An afternoon at Owera Vineyards enjoying some blush wine was the ultimate relaxation this weekend. The property is gorgeous with tons of trees, green fields, and ponds. There is an event center for parties and weddings. They have a tasting room, bar/restaurant and an outdoor patio for dining. The blush wine is a semi sweet wine. I adore the smooth finish. My wife and I (and mother in-law!) went to Owera earlier today and we had such a great time. The new tasting room is beautiful and comfortable - not pretentious at all (as wineries tend to be). The wine is not bad for central NY. I just assume northeast wine is going to be bad and overly sweet - but Owera had several well balanced wines. They have the super sweet - which you'd assume they have because of the grapes in that region as well as the folks in this neck of the woods liking sweet wines. The wines are also very fair priced - particularly by the bottle. We had food as well - we ordered two pizzas. Both were made with dough that their chef makes himself - and both were very tasty and went well with the wine. Also, I saw a couple recent reviews that the service is bad. This was absolutely not the case for us. Very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and affable. If employees read this, we were there on 6/29 at around 2pm. Good luck with everything. read more

This winery at lake Cazenovia was beautiful. And the wine selections were great. Unfortunately the service was not. Me and my 5 friends came here to celebrate a birthday. We arrived at 2pm on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and they were busy, so we were expecting a wait. There wasn't a wait at the tasting room so we chose to do the premium tasting (5 tastes for $8) for 4 people. The woman behind the bar was dismissive and rude! She kept complaining about not having enough wine glasses, was not helpful with drink choices, and told us to get off our phones. I get that this is a "taste" but The pour size was disappointing. I tried to engage in conversation and make the experience better but it just wasn't going to happen, she was dismissive and clearly did not want us there. When we finished our 5 tastes (and 1 complimentary) she began to cheer up as she gave us new wine glasses to take as a souvenir (part of the premium taste option) We decided that the wine was great so we wanted to sit outside and drink with a purchase of 2 bottles and snacks. The hostess was helpful in getting us a table and enough chairs. Our waitress seemed to be annoyed with us and not helpful. There were a lot of negative non verbal body language. We ordered deviled eggs, oil and bread x2, and 2 bottles of wine. Which took 35 minutes to be delivered to us. OWERA THE FOOD?! We ordered BREAD AND OIL... Worth mentioning: The water was never replaced in the 1.5 hour we were there. Overall, i did not enjoy my time here. The blush and rose were good. A very pretty winery out in Cazenovia. The inside is clean and modern. There is some outdoor seating as well. Overall seating is somewhat limited. I love their wine, it tastes so much better than your typical store-bought Barefoot. They also offer a small menu if you're hungry. We tried the Burrata, Crispy rice squares, and pissaladiere soppresatta. Everything was great. They used to offer several brick oven pizzas that were so good. Mediocre wine with foreign objects in the food. My wife found a paper towel buried in her salad! How do you so carelessly prepare a salad that you don't even notice a paper towel! She said it was tasty up to that point. My burger however was so salty that it was barely edible. Then I didn't want fries, but the kitchen missed that too. I'd say to go for the wine and view but the wine is nothing special. Maybe try a can of overpriced beer on the lawn. It's unfortunate. It could be great if someone cared. I had a flight of wines. The Chardonnay was nicely asked but weak on the finish. The roads were so bad I left them behind. My how my opinion of Owera has changed. I recently checked in here and happened to look at my review I wrote after they first opened...and it screamed to be updated. I have no visited Owera no less than a dozen times since it has opened and it has gotten better each time. Now that they serve a selection of beer, cider, and wine slushies to complement their selections of wine, there really isn't an excuse not to find something you like here. The flatbread pizzas are phenomenal, the beet chips are great (although the amount you get is questionable), and their cheese and chocolate boards rock. The menu items have a wine suggestion printed next to them which is a great way to promote your own wines and get people thinking what they may want to eat. My first impression of Owera was a bit jaded due to some service issues we had, but that has long been taken care of. The familiar bartenders will let you try anything and will make good suggestions for wine tastings. They have music on Fridays and Saturdays if you are into a little acoustic accompaniment for your libations. Occasionally they will have a Sunday brunch posted, though we have yet to try this out. If you are in Cazenovia and looking to enjoy some of the beverage trail options, don't miss Owera. read more

I'll be honest; when my mother said "let's go wine tasting" I was not all that excited. Don't get me wrong, I love me some wine, but on a cloudy afternoon I was totally content with staying home (and drink wine on the couch, of course!) Fast forward a few hours- and I'm so glad I made the trip with the rest of the fam out to Owera Vineyards. Here is a little breakdown of what to expect, the good/bad, etc. + The backdrop for Owera is beautiful. The building sits atop one of the rolling hills of Madison County and looks out over the lovely Cazenovia Lake. + There is a ton of parking. + The building where the tastings are held is stunning. From its shingled exterior to its warm and rich interior, I loved the wood work and materials used throughout. + The main bar is huge, gorgeous (made of raw edge wood and stained a delicious golden color) and basically wraps around the room. There are plenty of seats for those who are looking to do some tasting. + There are two tasting options: $5/3 samples or for $8/5 samples + a souvenir glass. Bonus- all tasters get a sample of the signature 'Betty's White' for free. Sooooo really you're tasting 4/$5 and 6/$8. I recommend going w/ the $8 option. Who wouldn't want to try more wine!? - For the most part the staff was friendly. When we arrived and found a spot at the bar one of the gals greeted us and passed out menus for us to look over. Unfortunately she didn't come back to pour our samples. Our wine-tasting-pourer wasn't super friendly to begin with and even seemed a little annoyed when I asked 'which wines are made here?' She lighted up a bit after the first few samples and proved to be very knowledgeable about all the varieties of wine sold at Owera. + the majority of the group opted for the $8/5 sample option... and Owera is serving up a lot of delicious wine! Favorites included: 2012 Semi Dry Riesling (silky smooth wine with hints of apricots, peaches), 2012 Cazenovia Blush (made locally & features the subtle sweetness of fresh strawberries), and the (I'm not a red fan usually... especially a dry red... but this one was smooth like butta and had this dark smoky black cherry thing going on. Yum.) - After so much wine samplin' a group can get sortof hungry, no? Owera is serving up brick oven pizzas made fresh. Our group ended up ordering the Teddy: Tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and prosciutto. I wasn't part of the ordering process because I imagine if I was I would have pointed out that a pepperoni pizza with prosciutto was a weird combo. Too much salty meat for one pizza. The prosciutto just felt like the pizza was trying to hard to be rustic and fit in with the rest of the vineyard. The pizzas were expensive too... I think the pie was $16 and it's not huge + Each wine we sampled was available for purchase- and prices ranged for $12-$20. Bonus- if you purchase 4+ bottles they give you a little cloth wine bag. + Patio out front overlooking Caz Lake seems as though it would be a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine on a nice day. Although if its still cloudy out there are plenty of 4-person high-top tables inside. Overall a great afternoon spent sipping delicious wines from Upstate NY. Owera Vineyards has SO much to offer! My friend and I made it a day trip. We hiked at Chittenango Falls State Park in the morning then came here for lunch and some wine tasting! (It's about 10 minutes from the park). I've been to tons of vineyards but this is on my list of top 3 favorites. The views are gorgeous and they have SO much land! My friend and I did a $8 dollar wine tasting which includes 5 wines & a complementary wine glass. They have a great variety but my all time favorite was the Betty's White. We ended up getting a bottle to share and the Teddy's Pizza. They have tons of food options as well. Everything was top notch including the service, food, and overall atmosphere. Our waitress was absolutely amazing. After eating we went outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather and views of the vineyard. There was a couple outside eating lunch with a beautiful German Shepherd dog. It's awesome that Owera is dog friendly! HUGE PLUS! Overall, I would give this place 10 stars if I could. I have been here before and had a wonderful experience with family and friends. Their pizza is fantastic! They are a little on the slow side getting food out, which was tough on our four hungry kids. The wine that year was good by any standard. They have primarily stainless steel, if that is your preference. I prefer oak. Regardless, I found 2 that I enjoyed and we even bought a few bottles to take home Our most recent experience was terrible! Yesterday, June 10, 2021. We went around 7ish. They weren't busy. We had the worst waitress imaginable. It took her 10 minutes to take our order. Another 10 minutes to get the special paper they use when ordering a tasting flight. Then another 10-15 minutes to bring us our drinks. We almost went to the bar. We saw from the menu that the flight cost $12. I ordered the two sweetest from the white and red wines. The port was ok but missed the mark for a port. I love ports. It was sweet but lacked the raisiny and spiciness of a true port. I thought it made a nice dessert wine. When we ordered because she was so slow we asked for our check. She never brought it. So when we finished our flights, she still hadn't brought our check. We left a $20 on the table and left. I was feeling down one day so my friend suggested we go here. The location is gorgeous. I heard they have weddings here, well it definitely is pretty enough for weddings. The parking is easy. So the day was pretty rainy, which was a bummer because it would have been great to sit outside. I also wish they had covered patio outside to sit out there, because everyone was inside so it made it pretty crowded. Which made it pretty loud. We were there on a trip from Old Forge to Cazenovia on the way to Skaneateles and we got there just before 5 on Sunday and was able to get one semi-dry Riesling which was absolutely delicious. This was our second time there and certainly not our last. We're going back around New Year's or possibly before and they have awesome menu. I've been here a few times for wine tasting and most recently for wine tasting, wine by the glass, and some food. I worked at a winery while in grad school in Northern California before moving to Syracuse to start my career, so when wine tasting here in New York I have to readjust my standards. That said, the wines here are pretty good, and I am learning to appreciate some new varietals from the area. The staff are always friendly and willing to answer questions about the wines, and I really like the decor and ambiance, both inside and outside. Plus, nothing beats a nice glass of wine while sitting in the sun with a nice view. The food is also delicious. We recently got the Margherita Pizza and Steak Crostini made with local beef. Sooo good! I would go back just for the food. We met one of the owners who was very fun to talk to, and we also made conversation with other customers which was enjoyable. One of the things I've always loved about wine tasting is meeting new people who appreciate good wine as much as I do. It is a little pricey, but I find it worth it for the experience. Came here in Oct 2019, sat at the bar and had a couple drinks. Bartenders were nice and accommodating when we asked to sit outside. Patio area had a bee problem, making it hard to enjoy the views. It went downhill when were ordered some apps. Started with a goat cheese dip with vegetables, because I love goat cheese. I was expecting a sort of spread-like dish, but what came was hot goat cheese dip, clearly with another cheese and swimming in the dip were the vegetables- only snap peas- not cooked or cut..... It was the most bizarre combination I've ever had. Then we ordered the scallops. They had the worst odor and an even worst taste of ammonia. Clearly bad. It's concerning that they would serve old seafood, the chef would clearly be able to tell from the odor. I'm willing to give this place another shot, but left extremely disappointed. read more

My husband and I went to Owera during Parents' Weekend at Syracuse University. It was a beautiful, but windy, day. The drive to the vineyard was spectacular, and the leaves were changing into their beautiful autumnal colors. The restaurant was busy, but we received speedy service from the host. We purchased two tickets to sample wines in the tasting room. We sampled six of their lovely wines, and received souvenir wine glasses to take home with us. I finally made it out to Owera with some friends and I must say, I was not let down! It sits back in its own little book of Cazenovia with a gorgeous view. The interior is equally stunning! I was admittedly surprised. They have a good variety of dry options which isn't always easy to find. We decided to buy a bottle of teddy's at 15%off as the special and enjoy some appetizers. The new crew came on to serve us and the quality of the experience began to change. We ordered the olive and bread at $6 and we got a small sliver of bread to dip In our basil oil. The seafood scampi was disappointing but they were nice enough to give us -another slice of bread for a dollar. One slice not enough. The shrimp and 2 scallops were laying in a pound of butter. I went to Owera last summer for an event and I promised myself I would go back. Finally, after almost a year I made it. I had friends visiting from NYC and I wanted them to experience a CNY vineyard and Owera didn't disappoint. We decided to do a tasting of 5 wines which was $8 and you get to keep the glass. We chose 5 wines and the featured wine of the month, Chardonnay, was poured also. A total of 6 wines! The woman in the tasting room was very knowledgeable and educated us on everything we tried. Such a great experience that we decided to stay and have some food in the dining area. We ordered a salad which was yummy and fresh. The woman in the tasting room suggested we try the special flatbread which was a French onion "soup" flatbread. It wasn't available at the time but the bartender (I think his name is Mario) told us that he could order it in about 10 minutes. We waited and I am sooooo glad we did! That flatbread was amazing! We all enjoyed the dry Riesling so we paired our flatbread with a bottle of the dry Riesling and I gave myself a pat on the back.
