Dateline: June 2014. I've learned that time flies, and this review will soon be dated, so I want to go on record: A soft serve ice cream cone only costs $1 at Overton's. That's right, no price gouging here, and what a view! Now don't go jacking up the price and screwing it up. Keep my review timeless! Yes, you pretty much know what you are getting here. It's never been terribly crowded when I've gone, the food is wonderful (the Weekly has voted it "healthiest food options in Fairfield County" 6 years running) Employees are friendly and parking is ample. AND how about that awesome commercial that they play on local cable & News 12? You can't get that jingle out of your head! We will soon be moving from Norwalk...I feel like the stereotypical cop just days from retirement. You know how that movie ends. I'm just trying to make it out alive. There's not much I'm going to miss about this city. I've pretty much had my fill of road construction, traffic, overpriced goods & services and everyone being rude to one another. As far as food options go, the scant highlights include: -Rio -Donut Delight -Piazza Pizza -Overton's (got a problem with my list? Not fancy enough? Get bent, I'm working poor) PS: Only 6 reviews here? Overton's is a norwalk institution, like throwing McDonalds bags out car windows, non-fatal gunshot wounds, and getting shaken down by the zoning department for a CO. Just moved nearby so wanted to enjoy a close seafood place. Glad I know this will be my last time there. Got scallops and onion rings. Scallops were basic and probably store bought. Onion rings were ok but all of it was way too expensive and they advertise a reasonable price. Maybe it's better in the summer with the view and all but until then I say stay away. read more

We were forewarned by other reviewers but we thought the bad reviews might be due to covid difficulties. Due to severe craving for fried belly clams we placed our order. The clams were overcooked, tiny, almost no bellies and tasted like fried fish. Apparently cooked in the same oil. The other reviews were correct. One star for the fries. Wow, best clam strips I've had on the CT coast - and I've tried lots of spot. Not huge portions, but the quality was excellent, and I'd rather have a delicious portion than a mediocre one. Only tried the clams and fries, but both were delicious. Also, soft serve cones for a dollar? This place makes eating seafood affordable for a family. The other comment I want to make is about the service, which was excellent. I'm not sure if this is family owned, but it's got that feel to it, and the owner was cooking in the back. I'm still a fan of Overton's but after the last few visits I've had, it made me ease off from loving them. I only have three experiences I have to write about... Service is not bad, young teenagers taking orders but some might have a little attitude... well.. maybe just 1 or 2. I asked for extra napkins one time because the napkin dispenser had none outside and she gave me 1; I asked for more because I just ordered $25+ of food with a group of people and she gave me two with no smile or eye contact and turned quickly as if she just burnt her toast. Didn't really feel welcomed or anything. I came back a few minutes later and asked someone else for napkins at the Ice Cream window and finally I got what I needed. They have clam strips and bellies on the menu. I ordered the clam strips before and I got too much belly in mine. Now some might find this a great thing, getting bellies rather than strips because it cost more and, to some, taste good. But If I wanted clam bellies, I would've ordered bellies, not strips. Maybe it was just the day that I went; it was slow and what not. But if you love clam bellies, order the clam strips and you may get a lot of the belly. Speaking of the clams..They need to make up their minds on lunch and dinner sizes on their clam strips. Prior to my last visit, I ordered clam strips off the lunch menu. $4+ compared to the dinner, which is almost doubled. My next visit, I ordered the dinner portion of clams and I literately got the same weight of food as I did with the Lunch order with a little more fries. I was a little upset that happened because the Dinner portion was suppose to be larger than the lunch, so I've been told by the employee working there. Meh I didn't go back and say anything though, I didn't want to make a big deal out of things. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 anyways because I still enjoy the place a lot. Burgers are still delicious and the ice cream is one of the best places to get it from, even though a great competitor is literately 50 steps away. I had such high hopes for this Norwalk institution I've been hearing about since we moved here almost 15 years ago. In all honesty - I was disappointed. The hubby and I agreed that the best part was the deck which had ample seating and a great view - right on the water. They are cash only, but don't advertise that on their website, Facebook page, or even prominently when you get there. Good thing we asked before we ordered. We actually wound up going back later in the day after we hit up the ATM. There is one on site - but was not about to pay the fee! A couple ahead of us had to scrounge for cash after they ordered. At least let people know ahead of time! In these days of Square and other cheap methods to accept credit cards, there's really no reason not to - unless they're getting kickbacks from the ATM! The prices are reasonable for everything but the lobster roll - $17 for a top split hot dog bun with some buttered lobster, choice of fries or onion rings, and some very mediocre cole slaw. We chose the onion rings - they were super greasy. Should have gotten the fries! The lobster was buttery and tender, but I could have gotten that amount of lobster out of a $6 chick lobster. Probably their largest profit margin! It did come with a free small soft serve cone - normally $1 - so I guess that helped. We got a cheeseburger, which again was just okay. Nothing to write home about. The shrimp sandwich was good, with plenty of fried shrimp and a soft bun. The tartar sauce and lemon made it very tasty. Overall, we may or may not go back. I wanted to love this place. I would even have settled for like. We visited several years ago and the food was tasty, if I recall. Unfortunately, our latest visit was a disappointment. My husband ordered the shrimp and onion rings. The shrimp were frozen and the onion rings barely had onions in them. It seemed like the oil hadn't been changed lately. I ordered a chili dog. I like hotdogs and I like chili. I didn't like this hot dog nor the chili. In fact, I tried to pawn half of my hot dog off on my husband and when I went to cut it in half, all he got was the bun and chili. These were small hot dogs. My daughter had a strawberry milk shake and was disappointed in it. I'm not sure what else to say. read more

Great place to get a cod or scallop sandwich, chili dogs, burgers and milk shakes at a reasonable price and sit eating them next to a pretty view of the harbor. They cook it light and in fresh batter and quick. It's old school America where you go to the window, order, pay with cash only then go up on the deck overlooking the water to eat. I was really excited to try this place, however, I was very disappointed. All the seafood is very poor quality (cheap and frozen). That said, I would have given 3 stars because it was served hot and quickly. But, when I picked up my food, I realized that they only charged me for three of the four sodas that I ordered. I mentioned this to the lady and she told me that she would have to charge me. I told her that I just ordered $70 worth of food and it was their oversight, so I wasn't going to pay for it. Her attitude and response was completely unnecessary, unprofessional and rude. So, thank you Rachael. This place is what it is. It's a harbor front snack shack. The food is cheap and simple. The view is pleasant and generally come with a slight breeze. There is an awning that helps on super-sunny days and rainy days alike. Service is simple and friendly enough. The menu is quite varied from cheap burger or simple nuggets, up to fried seafood or a lobster roll. Ice cream is available, parking is tight, but generally workable. My wife and i went to this place thinking that they accepted credit or debit cards. When we got to the place we saw a sign that said no cards only cash. A sign said atm in back and we went to go to the atm only to find out that it was broken. Apparently the owner of the place was around the corner and overheard what we said and asked what we wanted. We only wanted two fried clam strip dinners. He then told us it was on the house! I did not believe him at first but he insisted. We thanked him graciously and thought that was a very kind gesture in the current political and other kind of events that have been happening lately. Overton's is the go-to place for a summer lunch in East Norwalk. I'm fairly certain most of the standard dogs and burgers are frozen and cooked in the back, but it might be the decades of grease they are fried in that makes them so divine. The shellfish is all caught in Norwalk, and you can actually see some of the oyster and clam boats from the outdoor porch. You get awesome views, and can tie up your boat right out back and make an entrance. This is a classic roadside dive so don't expect anything but your great food and a place to sit. If the weather is nice, the place will be bumping from 11-11 so follow the line and you'll be glad you came. read more

I have always loved overtons. Now I see they are selling ice cream. Just went there last week, ordered food for 3 people and 3 shakes to go with it. The food was ready, but it took another 15 minutes , at least, to get the shakes. When we got the shakes they were nothing but glorified chocolate milk, for $4 a pop! There was no ice cream in it what so ever!!! Unfortunately, I did not notice this until I got the stuff home to my kids, so of course $12 worth of drinks DOWN THE DRAIN!! NEVER AGAIN. read more

Gave Overton's another chance today (sadly because I was driving by and saw no line) - didn't think my experience could get worse. I only ordered fries and a drink *thinking, how can they screw that up* - man was I wrong. The soda was fine, but the fries were inedible. I would say over cooked because they were like rocks, but they weren't burnt. So, stale or had been cooked and then sat, then re-dipped to heat? Whatever the case, for the portion of food you get, charging $2.80 for fries is insane considering the quality. There were 4 people "working" there. One cook, one taking orders and two sitting in the way talking. Whoever owns this place should reassess the food they're putting out. I've heard people rave about this landmark and honestly, it's nothing to write home about. Go to McDonald's, it's cheaper and better tasting or at least edible. read more

Overton's is one of the cutest ocean side sea food shacks I have ever been to in New England. Their prices are cheap, and their food is okay... Very very greasy, but okay. Their ice cream is cheap and delicious, and they have a huge assortment of flavors. The staff are also very nice. Dressed a little too unnecessarily scantly clad for my taste but whatever. Overton's has been a Norwalk institution since forever. On the water in Norwalk Harbor, this take-out stand serves up great fried clams, shrimp, scallops & fish, along with burgers, dogs, fries and onion rings. A deck behind the place with picnic tables overlooks the harbor. You can come by boat and dock for free while you eat your meal. What's not to love about this place? Worst shrimp ever !!! I am a big fan of seafood . I went to overtons for the first time and wow . I would of just have given then just one star, but the customer service was good. The first issue was , the cashier took my order ... I ordered a shrimp sandwich. . The cook made the shrimp sandwich and told her it was ready . The cashier picks up my food , with NO GLOVES after touching her hair and money and wraps up my sandwich . For some odd reason I still took it , while eating the shrimp was so slimy .
