I had kidney stone pain. It's excruciating. I came in . The nurse at the entrance sucked. I have never experienced pain like that. So she is set up in the hallway. Taking my vitals. When done she said take a seat. You're number 4. I was about to pass out. Then I saw beds in the hallway. I asked if I could lay down. She said yes. Then a minute later she is complaining that I messed up the sheets. I was on the verge of dropping. I said I'll buy the freaking sheets. However the Doctor was very nice. I would give Dr.Mankowitz 5 stars. However the nurses fucked it up. They are understaffed. The medical care in our country sucks big time. read more

Came in after surgery and after several hours of unable to urinate. I specifically asked for a catheter stat. I explained that after surgery I was told to drink plenty of fluids and was not able to urinate after several hours and that I felt that my bladder was overfilled. The pain was so intense that meds would not do anything. I have back issues but I was unable to sit or lay down. The young nurse couldn't care a bit after waiting for about two hours with the most intense pain between the surgery and a full bladder this nurse brings in a sonogram machine that did not turn on. I kept begging for a catheter and she indicated that I had to wait to follow procedure whatever that means. Also who am i to demand a catheter? About another hour a second sonogram machine was brought in but the tech did not know how to turn on. After several minutes the tech finally located the turn on button and indicated right away that I have a full bladder. Nurse finds this out but is out there on the nurses station mingling and joking with several staff workers. I barely moved to please ask her to take care of me suffice to say I still waited about half an hour before she came in with catheter. After insertion I had over 1k fluid ounces. The time it took for her to do her job was over 3 hours of the most intense pain that I have sustained and she was not busy at all. This could have been taken care of in just a few short minutes. Its a shame one has to suffer so much for some people who just couldn't care less about their job or their patients! read more

Do not go unless you are prepared to wait 6 hours. Nursing triage is non existant. They pay more attentiin to the faking drug addicts then tge real ill patients. "HCP" have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Get test results wrong. Follow by rote don't even think about what they are doing. Went there with lower gi bleed. Doctor wanted to do an upper gi work up when it was obvious it was lower. It wasn't until I had a massive bloody bowel movement that they even thought of doing blood work, iv etc. Then they believed me. Almost bled out before they moved their asses. read more

This is the second time I've been to Overlook ER in four months. AVOID at all costs. In a nutshell - 1) 12-hour experience with no satisfaction for gallbladder pain 2) hours wait in between the next step of the process 3) priority on DEI and not training for uncaring staff who spent time gossiping with each other and swearing like sailors 4) residents coming in one after the other to ask the same stupid questions. This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. My mother came in the hospital at 7:00pm because she fell and we think fractured her knee. She did not get to an examination room until 9:00pm did not see a nurse until 11:00pm did not get an Xray until 12:00am she still has not received the results of an Xray because they send the films outside the hospital to another location. I would not send my worst enemy to this hospital its 1:00am am we have no idea when she'll be seen by a doctor. We are totally disgusted with the care. experience and quality of care. read more

I went in at 7 months pregnant after having thrown up blood and forced to wait in the waiting room, I would've been fine with it if they weren't trying to force my boyfriend out of the waiting room to wait in the rain. There is a lot I like about this place. The medical staff knows what it is doing. The place is clean. They accept Medicare. Thier prices are reasonable. However, they tend to be busy. As a result, you may have to wait a long time. In addition, the staff does not do such a good job telling you what is going on. Also, I have seen cases where a doctor or PA will see a patient in the waiting room. I do not think that is right. If I was writing this review 3 years ago, I would have given them 5 stars. I only gave one star because I can't give zero. Last time I went to this place I had sprained my foot so badly the foot was swollen and I couldn't barely walk on it. Check in was quick as they saw my pain and there was barely a wait. Once I got inside however it was a different story. Felt like I was in this place forever. When they finally got around to me, I was taken for an X Ray. Seeing nothing broken they gave me an open toe shoe to put on and told me I could leave. Only issue... I had a slight emergency which required an evaluation and I only went here because the urgent care that I usually visit, did not have the machines available to give me a proper work up and their other locations close by, their machine wasn't working. So I got there, checked in, which the young lady was real nice and attentive. I got done and sat maybe for 2 mins in the waiting area and then I was called in. The nurse who came in to ask me the pertinent questions, took my blood pressure etc was very nice. The doctor came, Dr. Tyrell and he was really great!! The other nurse who draws your blood etc came in a little after the doctor and asked a couple of questions and then said he would be right back to draw my blood. He also asked if there was anything I needed and I said, water please. He said he'd check with the doc first before giving me anything. Needless to say, it was EXACTLY 2 hrs later that he came back and that was after I hit the call button that I got any attention at all. I tried getting other nurses attention who were walking by, just to ask a question and all I could hear was, "I'll be right with you" and they never even came. It wasn't a crazy, busy ER and I know they had other patients to attend to, but none life threatening which couldn't wait for a second to answer a question. At this point I was annoyed, frustrated and angry. I hadn't eaten anything all day and it was now 8pm The nurse FINALLY came in huffing and puffing as if coming from an aerobics class. I told him not to bother taking my blood or anything else and that I wanted to just be discharged. I told him it took him 2 hrs to come back to me and it was unacceptable, and this was after I hit that call button. He said he would get the doctor. Dr. Tyrell then came in and I told him I just wanted to leave and that it was unacceptable of how I was treated. He said the blood and results would take about 10-15 mins as he wanted to rule out a couple of things. He apologized to me. The nurse actually didn't when he came in. The nurse came back and proceeded to draw my blood and asked again if he could get me something. I told him apple juice. He did bring those back almost immediately. At this point he apologized for taking so long to get back to me. The damage was done. It was just too late for apologies. Now would I go back? I'm not sure. The ER staff to me was not on their A game, and didn't feel the need to even stop by when I called after them to see what was wrong. It's like everyone was in a hurry and I was the one that was in there for a reason. I gave them a 3 star rating because of my entire ER experience. Other than that, the place was clean. Very quite. Still sitting in cold crowded waiting room. The layout is awful. There are a set of stairs and a ramp leading to the receptionist which causes confusion with next person in line. During the intake phase you are asked personal questions in front of the crowed waiting room audience. There are a few friendly nurses but some need people skills. Wish I could leave but I'm in 3 hours already and my chances of having a heat attack keep me waiting. Ashame to you Overlook. read more

78 year old male presented with a diabetic emergency in the ER. Altered mental status hypertension, in active AFiB, labored breathing with a glucose level of over 200 left in the waiting room for 6 hours without rechecking vitals once. If we had called an ambulance he would have been a fly out, but we couldn't afford that bill. After 6 hours of waiting we walked out, without an RMA. My dad was uncontrollably shivering from the air conditioning being blasted. His hands were freezing and his muscles were starting to spasm. Triage was first come and not by medical priority. The ED should have been on diversion the moment they stuck stroke and heart attack risks in the waiting room. Vitals and medical information was discussed with each patient in front of the entire room, from their medical history to prescriptions to suicidal evals complete with full names and birthdays. I run EMS in a different county and I've never seen a more wildly inappropriate display from a hospital. Overlook is downright wreckless in their procedures and protocol for adequate and professional medical care, from HIPAA violations to triage standards. Unfortunately the only way to see a difference in a department like this is to take grievances to their donors and investors. When grant freezes are the only thing that makes a hospital stop to think about their standard of care, there's some issues there. read more

I only put 1 star but it deserves NONE!!!! My love one is in the emergency department. I walked the whole emergency department before I stopped and asked someone for help. After 8 hours of sitting there and taking a long drive I called to check on him and was asked and went through sooo much and I said where were y'all for 8 hours without anyone coming to check on him and now that I left a nurse by the name of Tobi from the emergency department talked rudely asked me do I know what time it was and basically not to call when they assured me when they gave me the number that I was able to call anytime I wanted. I would like for the nurses to train on how to deal with society!!! I'm totally feeling disrespected and really I want my loved one out because they don't care about the patients. I was given false results by a doctor here. Do not go here. I went in with extreme stomach pains/cramps, icy hot feelings in my ovaries, back pain, and flu like symptoms. I couldn't even breathe in without pain and was crying for the whole 6 hours I was there. I was told it's probably just ovulation by the doctor (the same doctor who said "what do you want us to do with her??" To my mother when my younger sister was suicidal). They took urine and blood samples and told me that they would either give me an oral pain killer (ibuprofen) or pain killer through an IV. I asked for an oral one and they came back with an IV, refused to remove it after they took blood, and I was left with severe pain in my arm from said IV, because it was put in wrong. They kept saying they'd bring ibuprofen but never did. I got a sonogram and was left in a dark room for 30 minutes, and was told I'd get pain killers after. That didn't happen either, they continued to change their story and then said I can have it after my results are back. If they told me that from the start it would've been understandable but they didn't. The same doctor came back with "results" that said I probably have a uti (which is what I was told by my doctor) and that the cramping is just the ovulation as she previously stated. She was extremely persistent and acted like she knew my body better than I did. I never received the paper results from the sonograms and had to go back to my doctor the next day to get those. I was told to take a medication for the uti and I was released. I later went to an obgyn who looked at the sonogram results and said "are you aware that there's a follicle in your ovary?" I said I didn't know what that means and she said it means I most likely had a cyst burst in my ovary. There was also fluid in my abdomen area. The doctor at overlook lied to me about the results. I'm beyond angry and I will not be returning here for even the smallest emergencies. read more

Overlook ER in Summit, NJ. Dr. Joseph G. Rella is the worst dr I have ever encountered. I went to the ER in excruciating pain and Rella could not have cared less. He was uninterested, unhelpful, condescending, arrogant and just awful. He provided absolutely no treatment and actually sat with his legs crossed as if bored to death. He was humiliating and unconcerned and should probably find another profession because he is an awful dr and an awful person. I am furious that I will have to pay $100 ER co-pay for the non-service I received. Even one of his nurses was also unpleasant and nasty. Please don't go here if you really need medical attention. I waited 4 hours for two 400mg ibprofen and an x-ray. I had TO BEG FOR THE IBPROFEN!!! They never got around to my cat scan because I left. I have never had worse service and I've been to trinitas. When I asked to have my files transferred they said they couldn't. On top of that I seen my nurse sitting down chatting with another one. I heard them go in the rooms around me instead of seeing me. After registration they don't care and they definitely don't value black lives. On Saturday May 12, 2018 around approximately 5:00pm I visited the @ Overlook Hospital Union Campus Emergency Room with a severe headache and Ear ache. Initially my visit started off very well with the intake clerk and the two RN which took my vitals, chief complain and symptoms. They were very professional and compassionate. I was lead into the emergency treatment area extremely quickly and soon after was seen by the Emergency room doctor that was on for the evening.This is were the experience actually begins to decline. I was greeted by a Dr. Murray-Taylor who was very numb, non compassionate and a bit withdrawn. Never the less i proceeded to explain to her what i was feeling and my concerns about the massive headache and ear ache that i was experiencing and the length of time that it had been going on for .She continue to stare at me with a blank look on her face as if she didn't quite understand what i was explaining to her. I had also mentioned to Dr. Murray-Taylor that i had recently had an ear infection and that the antibiotic that i was given possibly did not work. She proceeded to ask me for the name of these antibiotic and said she would be back when i had the names of the medication, she left me in the room for quite sometime and didn't even exam me, at this point i had been in the ER for about an hour and no IV was started which typically is what is initially done in an ER. When she return i gave her the name of the antibiotic i had been previously prescribed and she went into a lecture about writing down the names of medications but still no examination. She finally decided after about 30 mins or so to put on her gloves and look into my ears. She glance quickly and stated " I don't see anything or no sign of a previous infection so if you like i can give you some tylenol". Tylenol? i stated "i been taking tylenol as i told your intake nurse for a couple days and the symptoms are not subsiding thats the reason i came to the Emergency Room so that perhaps further examination can be ran." She looked at me again with that blank stare and exit the room and proceeded to exam other patients. I was furious at the lack of compassion this doctor exhibit. I got dress and went on to RWJ Emergency Room which did a complete work up started an IV, exam me thorough and did in fact discover that i had a reoccurring ear infection, treated me , prescribed me an antibiotic and was given a number to follow up with an ENT specialist. Now that is how an Emergency Room visit should be. @Overlook Union Campus please try and select doctor to work in your ER that are compassionate and caring and are equipped to recognized something as basic as an ear infection... read more
