What went well ?! EVERYTHING!! OK, so I DID arrive early today for my scheduled 5:30 AM check-in for my 7:00 AM procedure (which started...me on the table at 7:02 AM) and they hadn't arrived yet (the NERVE that you didn't want to get out of your warm bed 20 minutes EARLIER to accommodate me! ), but after that...AFTER THAT...ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!!! 6 out of 5 stars (well 5.5 because I had to wait outside until exactly 5:30...lol) From registration to my discharge they made sure I felt comfortable and secure. I had surgery here a few days ago and had an overall great experience. The check in process was quick and the lobby is clean, modern, and has plenty of seating. Once I was checked in, they let my husband come sit with me while I waited to go into surgery. I really appreciated this, since the last time I had a procedure at a different surgical center they didn't allow anyone that wasn't a patient beyond the waiting room. My surgery ended up being about an hour behind schedule (which of course feels like an eternity when you're fasting!) but the nurses kept giving me updates which I appreciated! Everyone I interacted with couldn't have been nicer, from my surgeon to the anesthesiologist to the nurses. They made a nerve wracking day less stressful and put me at ease. After my surgery, they let my husband come back to the recovery area and also had him pull the car up to the side entrance so I didn't have to walk too far. We felt like the surgeon and nurses did a great job explaining how everything went (and I received a check in call the next morning). Definitely a well-ran surgical center! read more

I have been to all the doctors and hospitals in this area, and this place just blew my mind. The staff was so amazing and attentive. The wait was so short and everything was right to business. They had so much staff and someone was always checking on me. They were so sweet and comforting, an experience that can sometimes be hard to find in hospitals. I had surgery here at this location and I must say from the time of arrival to departure I felt like I was the only person in the place. Every section gave me the attention, guidance and assurance for what to expect. Everything was throughly explained to me, then followed up with questions to confirm I understand exactly what was being done. Going into surgery is never easy but the staff was nice and welcoming which made me feel much better. Even in recovery ‍ my needs was well taken care of. I can't point out any one specifically because EVERYONE did an amazing job! I felt like everyone there loved and appreciated their job which is rare to come by these days. 5 Star Experience! So I came here for surgery for the 1st time at the request of my doctor and I was very satisfied with my visit! Upon coming here, I was a little skeptical because I did not want to pay such a large amount of money when I have health insurance however, once I stepped inside, I easily changed my mind. This office is very plush, very modern and clean and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There are a lot of nurses and doctor's in the back that all seemed to be organized, but running around busy with everything. There were several nurses that came over to me, one to put the anesthesia inside my arm, one that placed the needle and another one that asked me general questions to make sure I did not have any specific allergies. Once my surgery was over and I woke back up, the nurses were very attentive in making sure my recovery period was successful. Although, I have to admit, I wanted to be frugal and not spend a lot of money on surgery, I also wanted to have the best chances of having a successful surgery as possible. It is going on over a month, and so far so good as you cannot put a price on your health. Overall, I was very satisfied with my visit and would totally recommend coming here. read more

Take care when scheduling surgery through your doctor at this center as a few balls get dropped along the way. Most other surgery centers require an EKG and blood work 30 days prior. This one did not, there was a disconnect somewhere and it became a problem the day of surgery. read more

I'm a huge fan of the Short Hills Surgery center . I had my surgery there there 4 years ago, and my boyfriend had surgery there yesterday . Love it, and have strongly recommended that my friends and family go there, due to the level of care and pristine cleanliness provided. The shopping center it is in has a Trader Joe's and Petsmart in it, so if you happen to have a long wait time while your loved one is recovering, you can keep yourself busy . The doctors and nurses who work here are stellar: award winning and friendly physicians who really care about their patients . I Don't wish surgery on anyone (unless it's plastic. In that case: you do you, Barbie doll!) But I do think anybody who needs to get it she would consider using this beautiful facility. It feels like an upscale hotel spa from the moment you walk in. I had an awful experience with this center. Pre-op room was clean and staff there was friendly, but anything positive was cancelled out by what happened next. They couldn't wake me up after the procedure! When I opened my eyes in the recovery room, there were two nurses and an anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist repeatedly told me to keep my eyes open. But I just couldn't! My brain was fully working but I had no control over my body. I felt like I had been over drugged. I was wobbly and I couldn't even sit on my own. One of the nurses said this was because I am very sensitive to the drugs used. However, when I told her I had a laparoscopy, gastroscopy, and colonoscopy just a few years before, and was just fine after, she replied that those procedures were short ones. But my procedure at the SH center was also short. Only 20 minutes had passed from when I walked to the operating room to my husband getting a call from my surgeon regarding the results of the procedure. Once I woke, this same nurse was continuously repeating that I have to leave. She even told me that "You may go to Emergency Room. If they will take you." I could not believe what I was hearing. I am sitting in the medical facility that put me in this condition and they are trying to get rid of me by sending me to the ER!? I was feeling like a pin stuck in a conveyor belt, and the staff was trying to pull out that pin to restart the conveyor, no matter the cost!!! I was finally given my clothing, told to change (it took me some time and I did it while sitting on the chair), and was wheeled away to a car waiting outside. It took me a few days to get back to my normal self. On top of that, since I have a high deductible insurance plan, I have to pay around $4000 to SH center for the service I received! Staff is completely unprofessional. I was put in this condition by the staff and they were trying to get me to leave the facility ASAP, regardless of the condition I was in. read more

Just got home from my hernia surgery today(8-6-19) at Short Hills Surgery Center. What a lovely and hospitable experience. From check in to checkout EVERYONE who worked with me was an absolute pleasure and just wonderful and kind. I wish I could remember names but the anesthesia seems to have caused my memory to not be fabulous today. My experience was truly amazing!!! I definitely felt that all the staff at the ShortHills Surgery Center was interested in my physical and mental comfort. Everything was explained and I had no reluctance to ask questions and actually learned something new. Every nurse and staff member in the operating room was so nice and caring, one nurse asked me if I wanted to hold her hand upon getting the first needle. Great experience overall! After my Doctor's office scheduled the procedure, I got a call from the Surgery Center and was given instructions on how to fill out all my forms ahead of time to save a bunch of time. They also were able to confirm that the center and the anesthesiologists on site all were in network with my insurance (thus no surprise bills later). They clearly identified what my portion of the bill would be well ahead of time as well. As promised, I got a call the day before my surgery and they told me to come at 6:15am. I arrived right on time, signed one or two additional forms and paid my coinsurance within 5 minutes. I was in pre-op by 6:30. Everything once admitted was very efficient. Nurses were very friendly and quick. Anesthesiologists were very informative and explained everything in detail. The procedure and recovery was quick, and I was literally on my way home by 10am! The facility overall is very nice. The waiting room feels like a hotel lobby, and the Operating rooms and pre/post rooms are all very clean, modern and well equipped. I know not many people get to "choose" their surgery centers, but this place would be my first choice every time. read more

I had no idea that this establishment was tucked just around the corner from one of my favorite places, Trader Joe's. As surgical centers go, it was a nice open waiting room with a friendly and professional staff. After a series of signings (of course the obligatory insurance paperwork) I was ushered to the back where I was prepped for surgery. Everyone was very friendly and professional and checked a d double checked all information before I went in for my procedure. The place was clean and bright and I was made to feel comfortable under stressful circumstances. All in all, I would recommend this place and feel comfortable going back again of the need arises. read more

Everything went smooth. Unavoidably you sign a bunch of papers when signing in but everyone is pleasant and the waiting area is very nice. It's a very loungy atmosphere but when you go back to the operating rooms and prep areas they look appropriate. It's as nice as surgery center can look. I used Dr. Morrow for surgery on my nose. The entire surgery was paid for upfront and I was assured there would be no "suprise bills". That was clearly a lie. They tried to double dip on my anaesthesia and charge me $2000 over a year after my surgery. They stated I never paid for it even though i had paperwork stating I paid it up front. They strong armed me to pay $600 again and said if I don't pay if they will just send it to collections and if I didn't like it get a lawyer. When I called Dr office to find out what's going on no-one seemed to want to help since they were paid already. I eventually caved and paid it in fear I would ruin my credit over $600. Now after 2 years after my surgery I receive a bill for $757. They are trying to strong arm me again for more money. I was informed by them that my insurance company should have paid for something and did not. When I called my insurance company they said no problem have the office contact us and we will get it squared away. I had to call short hills surgery center once a month for over a year. Every time I called they said we haven't had a chance to call yet. Really in a whole year you didn't have time!!! Meanwhile they continue to send threatening letters about sending it to collections. To make a long story short they pressured me into paying stating they wouldn't call my insurance company and if I don't pay it they will just send it to collections. This place is a complete rip off. I paid 15k out of my own pocket initially and was assured there would be nothing else. Also found out that they charge 96k to fix a deviated septum. Absolutely ridiculous. On top of the 15k I initially paid they ended up squeezing me for an additional 1800. Please be aware absolutely disgusting operation they are running. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Worst mistake and biggest regret of my life. 3 years later and still wouldn't be surprised if they manufactured something else to bill me for. read more

The medical staff was very nice and I felt I got adequate care from that standpoint, although they did rush me out of the recovery room. The whole billing set up is ridiculous and unprofessional. I had to pay $500 upfront before I could even check in which seemed unnecessary - you can't send a bill? Then I got a phone call approximately 3 weeks after I got my procedure bill demanding to know where my payment was! 1. It's 3 weeks, chillax 2. The payment was in the mail, chillax 3. Who harasses someone for nonpayment after 3 weeks?! Plus they wouldn't speak to my husband about this issue when a) they addressed the bill to him (not the patient) and b) the insurance is under his name. A good example of an organization not run by medical professionals and who only care about the bottom line and not the patient or focusing on high quality care. read more

My first visit in August I had surgery and yesterday I just had some testing but needed to be put under anesthesia. From the check in to the discharge, everything has been super easy. Very dissatisfied with this surgery center. I understand the facility needs to make money but this place is ridiculous. They first hold you hostage until you pay money up front. They then take a 5 minute "surgery" tube removal and bill it as a hour plus long ear drum reconstruction. Now the surgeon was the same surgeon that put the tube in. Medical billing states that the surgeon that put the tubes in should take tubes out at no cost. So in order to make money off of the insurance company and patients, they billed as a different type of surgery. My responsibility now instead of no cost is over $1000. I called to discuss and the person that answered needed to investigate because it was based on the doctors notes. At this time, I thought all is well because they will see the surgery lasted no more than 5 minutes. A month later no call and I find i am in collections. This facility is fraudulent. Please be aware of their billing scams. read more

I went in today for a Spinal Cord Stimulator trial. The front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful. I was brought into the back and prepped for my procedure. I am a "Hard Stick" so they had issues getting the IV started. They brought in the anesthesiologist to do it and she got it VERY quick. She explained what was going to happen and it was a bit different than what my doctor had explained to me so it made me scared. My wife could see I was anxious and when my doctor came in and explained it to me, he told me what she had told me was false. So I basically got all worked up for nothing and she(the anesthesiologist)should have just kept to the sleep part and not talked about ANY other part of the procedure. ALL THE NURSES who took care of me were helpful and nice. My doctor was GREAT and the tech from Stimulator company was GREAT. During the procedure I was in a VERY VERY uncomfortable position and I was out into a VERY VERY mild sedation for maybe 10 minutes. The rest of the time I could hear everything that was being said. Like I said earlier my body was in a position that's not comfortable, yet every time I moved the anesthesiologist would make a comment. She DID NOT LIKE that I was vocal about how uncomfortable I was. Then she kept on telling the doctor I will give him more of this and more of that to which he said "OK". There was either NOTHING in the syringes or the doses this woman gave me were so small they did nothing. I don't think she likes my attitude and just liked seeing me uncomfortable. After the procedure was over I just wanted to get dressed and get out of there and get food. Being it was 1:40 and I hadn't eaten since the night before I was hungry. The anesthesiologist for some reason followed me into the "recovery area". The nurse there asked if I wanted my wife to come sit with me and my response was "NO, I don't want any food I have no desire to sit here. I really just want to go eat some real food and go home." The anesthesiologist had to interject and say "Are you sure you don't want your wife here to help calm you down?". Her tone wasn't one of concern it was more like, "let me bust this guy's balls more". Then she said something to the nurse and she put the folder in front of her mouth. I said to her "If you want to say something about me I'm a big boy just say it out loud! You don't have to cover your mouth with a folder." She looked at me like I was crazy and said "I wasn't talking about you!". If she wasn't talking about me why would you cover your mouth? In the beginning I mentioned that I'm a "Hard Stick" And they have a hard time starting an IV, well this anesthesiologist found a vein VERY VERY quick and I said "that's why she makes the big bucks!". She said "Maybe you can talk to my boss because I don't make BIG BUCKS". Well from this patients point of view I can tell why she's not making the big bucks......2 words "BEDSIDE MANNER". I will walk out of the the facility before I let this doctor near me again. I pray to god that this Stimulator trial works and I have a permanent one out in. I hope that Dr. Jonga and Patrick from the Stimulator company are both there, well I know Dr. Jonga will be there but the anesthesiologist WILL NOT! read more

I had surgery here once before with Dr. Todd Morrow ass my surgeon and Dr. A. Golian as my anesthesiologist. Excellent care. Unfortunately my second trip there was a nightmare My surgeon was to have been Dr. Edward Decter and I do not know the name of the anesthesiologist. In Dr. Decter's office I explained that I have PTSD and could not have spinal anesthesia without a serious panic attack. I was cleared by both my internist and cardiologist for general anesthesia. On the day of surgery the anesthesiologist came to see me and said that he was going to do a spinal. I repeated my concerns and asked why a general anesthesia was not going to be used. He said because he had concerns "about my airway." This was absurd because he had never seen me and thus could not possibly have evaluated my airway. Asked if Dr. Decter had a say in this and I was told that his opinion was part of the decision. Thus there was absolutely no concern for my welfare as a patient but merely blind obedience to the surgeon's wishes. Because I began having a panic attack Dr. Decter said I was "crazy" and cancelled the procedure. Thus I cannot speak about post-op care. As a final note to this story I was told by two other doctors that the planned knee surgery was not necessary. This speaks to the quality of surgeons who practice at this facility but since it is "doctor owned" there is no quality control of the doctors. read more

Professional medical staff, but their billing department is a complete mess, which becomes the patient's problem. After paying for 3 surgeries there, I found out that they'd failed to submit my paperwork to the insurance company properly. How did I find out? By getting a letter from a collection agency. No letters from SHSC. No calls from SHSC. They just sent it directly to collections. That was 5 months ago, and I made arrangements with them at the time to pay the bill by deducting the money from my bank account - which happened. Guess what I got this morning? A phone call from the collection agency saying that the bill is outstanding! When I called SHSC, they told me they'll have to "look into it". Friendly staff, neat and tidy , hotel like lobby but good for nothing! However, no time management! We waited in the waiting room for 1 hour 30 mins before we were scheduled and taken inside the preoperative room. That too , waiting with a 2 year old for nothing !!! That's not how far ahead you call little kids. Then we are waiting in the room for our ENT to show up!!! They postponed the surgery by an hour and says they missed informing me that I should come in an hour late!! An ENT is late for performing a surgery and when I ask the nurse that's it's unfair to wait so long, she gives me an attitude! ! We are waiting for nothing since last 2 hours. I have been to several hospitals , they have you come in early to Start preoperative procedures , not to just hang out!! AVOID THIS PLACE, YOU ARE BETTER OFF GOING TO HOSPITALS LIKE ST BARNABAS ETC. read more
